My husband and I really enjoyed the lake views from everywhere, lakefront, deck, living room and kitchen; peaceful but also enjoyed watching the boats, feeding the ducks, listening to the loons and going for a daily kayak trip along the shoreline. Loved it.

The cottage is clean and and maintained well. The location in Newbury Harbor is great.

We had a great time paddling and swimming during a hot week in NH. Cabin was comfortable and had everything we needed. The location allowed us to explore a variety of places in NH and even a quick trip to Vermont.
4.7
We had a wonderful stay at the Acorn Retreat. Enjoyed swimming and the use of available kayaks on site. So great to be on the waterfront of beautiful Lake Sunapee.

We have been coming here here for several summers. Just a wonderful little cottage. The lake is right in the backyard! Loons call out every night. I always enjoy my coffee on the deck overlooking the water. The owners live nearby but are very respectful of your privacy. We plan on coming again.

We both enjoyed our week at Acorn Retreat. We liked the location, a short distance from great restaurants in New London and then very close to great ice cream at Bubba's! The Sunapee Lake tour is advised to learn more about the area and the neat characteristics of the region. We traveled to Polar Caves and Boston as part of our week at Acorn Retreat. It's convenient and was just the right size for this vacation this year.

Wonderful experience.

This cottage is exactly as advertised. Very we equipped and couldn’t ask for more. The lake is right there with wonderful access. A float or a noodle is all you need for a great day!

We had a great week with 3 kids! We were right on the water which had a sandy shallow area the kids could play in without being over their heads… two kayaks to use and a neighbor brought us floats to use!
4.7
Perfect escape from the city. Well equipped, attentive when an issue arose, pleasant neighbors, kayaks, hiking, and the lake, what’s not to love! It was great!
4.7
Super cottage!
Nice views, helpful neighbors, close to park, beach, restaurant, most importantly...ice cream! We will definitely be coming back!

The listing description is accurate. The property has incredible direct water access for kayaks and paddle boards in order to enjoy what Lake Sunapee has to offer. The cottage is nothing fancy. It has the needed necessities for your stay. My wife and 3 kids loved our week long stay

Perfect Spot for Relaxation
Everything was perfect and the whole family really loved the location. We wanted to relax, take it easy, after the craziness of the previous year - and we got exactly that! It was marvelous!

Harriet, the owner, greeted us warmly upon arrival. The cabin is cozy and clean, many would call it "quaint" and others might say it's "rustic." I feel there needs to be a bit more disclosure of certain on-site conditions that aren't revealed in the listing. While there is "waterfront," it is a very narrow swath of land squeezed in between two docks which are "off-limits." The lake bottom is sandy but the frontage is rocky. Fortunately, there are stairs to help navigate your way into the water from the land. While the impression from the photos is that the cabin is situated by the water, there is about a 50-yard sloping path down to the water. There is also a pedestrian easement that cuts across that slope, so there's lots of foot traffic between the cabin and the water by busy and boisterous (and friendly!) neighbors. All these are manageable constraints, but it would have been good to know in advance. More important is the issue of accessibility. Anyone with ANY mobility issues would be severely challenged by the stairs to the second floor bedrooms. They are tricky if not treacherous. particularly if you need to navigate them at night to access the one (downstairs) bathroom in the cabin. Between those stairs and the slope between the cabin and the lake, older folks and those with any mobility issues/limitations would do well to find other accommodations. On the bright side, I caught a chunky smallmouth bass right off the shore!

This is a very cute property with nice waterfront sandy beach and view of the backside of Mt. Sunapee across the lake. Our landlords were very helpful with any questions or needs that we had and made us feel very welcome. The cottage has a wonderful view of the lake, and although small, it is very adequate. The beds are comfortable. The deck offers more lake views and has shade and sun. The fire pit and bench near the waterfront offer great late day activity. Thanks for a lovely stay at Acorn Retreat.

Rustic Cottage
Very rustic but nice and comfortable. Beds and pullout sofa was fine. Complete set of new knives. Beautiful view from outside deck. Water frontage maybe 20-25 feet. We moored 2 Sea Doos in the space. No dock. Owners live next door. Upon arrival Saturday we found the refrigerator was not staying cold. The owners came and the next day we had a different one. We had coolers so it wasn’t a huge inconvenience. Shower was nice with great water pressure. Owners were very pleasant to us. We would stay there again.

Fabulous Way to Enjoy Sunapee
Just finished a very enjoyable week, with the family, at this cozy lakefront cottage. It is sparkling clean and has everything you need to enjoy yourself on the lake. This part of New Hampshire is not only beautiful and authentic, but remains unspoiled by large crowds, chain restaurants and the like. So refreshing to visit a Deli and meet the proud owner, something you won't get at Panera. Excellent value in this property and the managers are warm, friendly and helpful. Many Thanks!

Broke a crappy knife and almost cut my finger. Two cutting knives in entire kitchen and I broke one.Unable to turn on spotlight facing water, so no light on deck.Unable to operate kitchen blinds because they were broken. No electrical outlet in bathroom.Need to trim branches to increase view to lake, mainly blocked from deck.Cable TV sucked.Deck chairs were dirty and stained.Deck was worn beyond repair and full of splinters.Life jacket storage was under deck and full of spider webs.Cleanliness of the place was below average, found an unwashed Tupperware container in cupboard. Fridge had food stains inside and drawers full of veggie scraps from prior renter. Kitchen inadequately supplied. Minimal and ancient utensils.Second floor very small and hot because it was in the attic. Fans in the house were filthy. Lake and location was very nice, but no level ground near water and just a very old piece of crap bench to sit on. Picnic table was dirty. Would have been nice if a small deck were put on the uneven area in front of water. Waterfront was shared with two other owners, not very private.A paddle boat that was filthy and stained our bathing suits. No dock.I’d be embarrassed to own and rent something like this on beautiful Sunapee. Two out of five stars.

Lake Sunapee
Overall the experience was good, the access to the water was great, the cottage was quaint, cute and the deck was great for meals, reading and just relaxing. The full bed is very small and not comfortable, the property is not private as listed as the neighbors who own property next to the cottage came and went as they pleased to use the dock and boat that the cottage does not have access to, also there was driveway work scheduled for the week we were there which should have been done when there are not renters at the property.

Great week
We stayed for a week in June and it was perfect. Great views. Rented a boat from the harbor and was just an amazing trip. Did some close bye hiking as well. We brought our own kayaks which was perfect. Thank you

Great way to end Summer
My friend and I were blessed with great weather the whole week. Accommodations were comfortable and peaceful for the most part. We were situated at the South Bay of Sunapee and there was a highway directly across from us. The small cove we had to launch our kayasks from was nice. Better fishing in nearby Lake Todd and the Connecticut River. Some great hikes at Sunapee, Kearsarge and Ascutney across state line. Responded same day to an minor issue we had during the week. All in all a great experience.

Family getaway
Our two young boys had a blast at this great location, as did we! We brought our own kayaks and fishing gear, and made great use of the paddle boat that was available to us. The grill was perfect...everything was clean and tidy. Everyone's beds were comfy and we slept great - it's a very small space, but it works for a week by the lake. Shower pressure was excellent. Short drive to Mount Sunapee as well as many restaurants and a play ground for the kids too!

It has everything you need for a relaxing get away! Owners are very helpful!

Fun week
All good except coffee maker was so small and knives were below average. Sleeps six but only five chairs for table. Wanted to leave early Saturday morning but transfer doesn't open till nine, so we took all trash and recyclable items home with us.

A cute, cozy cottage!
We rented the Acorn Retreat for the month of July for my parents. It was great find! The location is fantastic and the owners are all warm and very welcoming! The house is super cute (rustic), very clean, and well-equipped! Though it is not private (which was not a concern for us), the neighbors all kept to themselves for the most part but were kind and very helpful when we had questions.
While it was only my parents that stayed overnight at the cottage, my family of 4 visited nearly everyday. We truly enjoyed our stay! The paddle boat and fire pit were definitely an added bonus. The teenagers routinely paddled over for ice cream in the harbor!
I would highly recommend this house as a rental for small families (4-5) people or a couple! Thank you all for a fantastic rental experience!

Comfortable & Quiet. Beautiful spot!
Cottage was very comfortable. Owners greeted us after our arrival & made themselves available if we needed anything. Kitchenette was a very usable space & was outfitted perfectly for us. We enjoyed our stay.

Spend a week enjoying a simpler lifestyle
If you have always dreamed of owning a house on Lake Sunapee but can't, this is your best option. The cabin sits alone surrounded by larger personal residences. The cabin, though rustic, was squeaky clean and adequately furnished. The on-line description was exactly as stated.
It was comforting to know that the owners lived nearby. We met them the first night we arrived and they made us feel right at home/welcomed. They were very generous, polite, and friendly.
It was such a luxury to be able to walk out the back door, down the hill, and into the crystal clear lake water for a swim, to relax by the fire pit, or read a book on the deck. We also enjoyed the aerial challenge course at the Adventure Park at Mount Sunapee, the Montshire Science Museum (VT), King Arthur Flour Baking Store (VT), and the New London Barn Playhouse Children's Theatre. Good eats were to be had at Bubba's in Newbury and The School House Cafe in Warner that has pancakes 1" high and big as a skillet.
We would not hesitate to recommend this place to our family/friends or to return ourselves in the future.

Cute Lakefront Cottage
We have been coming to Newbury NH for 30+ years and this is my first time for my family & I staying at the Acorn Retreat, and we were pleased. It was very cute, clean & well equipped. The pictures were very accurate & the owners of the cottage are just next door. The pedal boat was an added bonus & fun for everyone. We enjoyed our stay!

Welcoming, fun, and cozy cottage!!
We had a wonderful time at The Acorn Retreat this summer, our whole family. The cottage is very well-kept and well stocked, they really have everything you might need. The quaint property is family owned, and it shows. The people in the neighboring cottages were completely lovely and extremely helpful, yet you absolutely get the sense of privacy and peace that you'd want. We would absolutely recommend staying here and are looking forward to returning next summer! Also, we had the best pizza of our lives from Newbury Palace Pizza which was just a short ride down the road. Our kids are still raving about it!!
