Very unpleasant experience! We booked this hotel due to the good ratings. Our first room was nice and clean, but the AC had a really bad smell. We could only switch rooms the next day, where the AC was much better. In the evening we had a look at our bed and noticed that it was covered in tiny insects (see photos), not only a few in one location, but really the whole bed. The employee at the front desk checked, saw the insects and wanted to spray the bed with something and give us fresh sheets, but we told her that we would prefer to leave as we were afraid that the insects could be bedbugs. She called the owner, but then informed us that she cannot refund the remaining 4 nights, as we already paid through booking and offered another room. We decided to leave anyway and contacted the owner directly the other day for a refund and were told that the AC was checked and was fine and that no one, also not the employee that checked the room with us, saw any insects and refused to refund anything. We informed booking and sent the photos, but the owner still refused to refund, even though now it would have been clearly possible to refund, making her first reaction that it is not possible inaccurate at best. She just sent some AC and insecticides certificates to me and threatened to press charges against us if we mention her hotel in a way that hurts their reputation. Maybe we were just unlucky with the rooms, the hotel seemed nice otherwise, but the reaction of the owner and even threatening to sue us, even though we tried to resolve the issue and offering her to not rate our experience if we find a solution, shows you probably all you need to know about this place. We have stayed in many hotels already and never had to leave a bad rating before. Thanks to booking for trying to resolve the issue for us.

Nicely run but quite tacky deco. Rooms ok but would not qualify this as ‘boutique’. Close to village center. Nice pool.

Malia is not the most attrative place in Crete. Full of tacky bars and stuff. Hotel not close to the beach.

Our accommodation at the Sunshine Boutique was excellent, there was a lovely welcome tray awaiting us which included a bottle of homemade wine. The room was exceptionally clean, with fresh towels every day even though they weren't always necessary. The pool and bar area was clean and well maintained with lots of comfortable loungers. The breakfast was fabulous, with lots of freshly made choices savoury and sweet every day, and a tasty range of local Cretan products to try as well. The staff were so friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble, and they gave us excellent information on places to visit, and good restaurants to try. All the shops and restaurants you could possibly need were just a short stroll away.

The only thing that could have been improved on, and this is just a small quibble, is an experienced barman at the pool bar. There were lots of cocktails on offer but they were unable to make most of them because their barman was off sick and the covering staff didn't know how to. We were there for 5 days and he didn't appear, hope he's OK.

It was a modern apartment building, which was really tidy and comfortable. Breakfast was really good. The location of the accommodation is very good, just in the middle of Malia "downtown" and the beach. So by walk, we could go anywhere within 15 min.

The room was not too spacious. Our room was on the ground floor and we did not have any windows only a big door. But it did not matter to us because we spent only the night in the room.

We pretty much loved the place. mostly because the women who run it made us feel welcome and at home. The room is big enough, the bed was comfortable and the breakfast was delicious. we loved the pool and the private off site parking. the shower was a bit small but they kept the place immaculate so it wasn’t an issue.
