Location was excellent, with comfortable beds and all the required amenities in good working order. Perfect for our 3 night stay.
It’s a 5 min walk to a good size supermarket, 15 mins to the main ‘downtown’ Avenida with restaurants and the mercado. 3 amazing hikes to the top of the ancient caldera, and the butterfly farm is a must see.
We were able to park our car inside their gate, and the home is a 15 min walk to access one of the 3 primary hikes in the area, India Dormida.
Jose and his partner, Liz, are wonderful hosts, and made us feel like family. The breakfast is simple and filling, and we could use their fridge and also made a meal or two using the kitchen facilities.
Jose and Liz are gracious hosts and Jose is very witty. They made our time there a truly fun and memorable experience. Communication was excellent, in English and Spanish, despite my spouse and I having very limited Spanish language skills. Local knowledge, tips, and recommendations on things to do in the area were great and super appreciated.
Finally, Jose joined us on one of our hikes and he made it super fun and interesting with his knowledge of local flora and fauna.
Thankyou Jose and Liz, ¡Sois unos anfitriones maravillosos y unos seres humanos increíbles:)

Absolutely loved the family. This is a homestay set up and the hosts couldn't be more helpful and kind.
No A/C. But in El Valle it is not as needed as elsewhere in Panama.

It is close to the centre. Very cozy and the staff was top notch. Lizneth was a very resourceful and kind host and she made us feel at home. The bedroom was very comfortable and our breakfast, whilst simple, was very good and it replenished our energy after a long night of hard-partying. Lizneth also has birds! Don’t really know how that’s relevant but having breakfast while listening at the birds chirping was nice too haha.
I wouldn’t know. We were so pleased with our stay we can’t pinpoint a reason so far. Maybe that the fan we had was really small but that’s it.

Liz and her daughter where so nice. We felt really welcome. The room was clean and had a nice bed. We got some good recommendations for hikes and restaurants in town and every morning Liz made us breakfast and self made juice which was great.

very friendly and kind host, good location
please be aware that this is not a hostel, but rather a home stay, Liz rents out a spare room. it would probably be good to make this clear in the description, as we were not aware of this when booking. rather pricey for what it offers compared to other places.

The hosts were nice and helpful.
We took our time to write this as we do not like to wite bad reviews, the people were nice, and we like to support local. We knew this was a small B&B but it advertises a garden view, mountain view, and sitting area. We envisioned relaxing in the garden watching the sun set over the mountains. However, the reality is very different. The yard is barely big enough for the car, there is No Garden. To view the mountains you have to leave the property. I have included pictures showing the view from the bedroom. I am being harsh but this property is totaly misrepresented and I really question how it has a 9.6 on booking.com.

This was the best welcome we have ever had. Liz and Jose made us feel part of their family from the moment we arrived. We shared breakfast with them and easy conversation (they were very patient with my Spanish) to learn about the Valle. The kettle was always available so we could enjoy a cuppa after long hikes in the hills.
Nothing. They were the perfect hosts.

Jose and his wife, Lis, were incredibly welcoming! They invited us into their home and treated us like family!
The mattress was a little too firm for our taste.

The perfect home stay in El Valle. Jose and family couldn't have been warmer or more accommodating. So helpful with recommendations for hiking, restaurants, etc. Loved breakfast outside in the morning with the family. Great coffee! Small bedroom (comfortable bed) and private bathroom. Great hot water and internet. Pictures on the website don't capture the warmth of this stay.
Nothing I didn't like. Secure private parking on-site, but would be tight for a larger vehicle. Some fluency in Spanish would be helpful, but not essential.

From our personal point of view it was more like a home stay, basic room, private bathroom across from bedroom. Lots of contact with the family in the evenings and at breakfast. Clean tidy room, hanging space, slightly harder bed than our preference, extra pillow supplied when needed. Couple of plugs for charging, fan and shutter windows. Bread and jam with great coffee for breakfast and fresh made fruit juice. Easy walk to town, 15mins to centre, 10 mins to nearest restaurants. Could cook in family kitchen if wanted to. Really friendly, helpful family. Outside front garden for relaxing and eating with with bird table so keep your camera handy.
It is residential road, if noise sensitive bring ear plugs. Usual dogs, chickens, music and neighbour noises.

Everything was great!
The hosts were super nice, friendly and helpfull!
Even if we dont speak spanish at all, we understood each other somehow. :)
The location is also great, close to the bus station and all trails. The room is big enough, clean. You can also use the kitchen there.
100% recomended, thank you! :)

José and Liz are wonderful hosts and are extremely generous with their time and kindness. I had my own room and bathroom (they currently have only one room available) which were very clean and comfortable. José guided me along La India Dormida walk which was amazing, and I definitely wouldn’t have managed without his guidance, even though it was a dry day.
Not a negative, but just a reminder that José and Liz only speak Spanish! My Spanish has improved in the two days I have stayed there :)

Jose made us feel like at home. He is a great cook, tour guide and funny boy :) And he tries speaking English, doing quite well!
Bed was quite old and shaky

Jose and his wife Liz were the kindest, most accommodating hosts.
They gave us great advice on some hiking routes and showed us the way to the “India dormida” trail (which we’d highly advise you to take a look at - its breathtaking).
Breakfast was simple but nice with coffee, bread, jam, juices and eggs.
The room and bathroom were super clean and Liz was kind enough to wash a load of laundry for us.
All in all - we had a blast! It’s almost like we stayed with friends.
nothing 😊

José is super friendly, hospitable and helpful. He showed me around the valley, mountains and the waterfalls. Really great!
Everything at the accomodation was super clean and nice. Breakfast was also good. I was totally happy and would recommend DondeJose to all kind of travellers (families, couples or people travelling alone).
Dear José, thank you for everything. Cheers, Julian

I loved everything. It is a private family home. The host José is originally from Spain. Both he and Liz were very kind, friendly and accommodating. I really enjoyed having my breakfast custom made, sitting together with the family, chatting about local life, nice places to visit and hike, birds... I felt really pampered. The place will especially please the single travelers looking for a cosy local experience, laid back environment.
Nothing that I didn't like.

Nicely located and pretty close to the centre of El Valle de Anton. José and his wife are very friendly and we had a great hike with José up the mountain of India Dormida. They do everything they can to make suggestions for trips in the area of El Valle and to make you feel welcome.
Room was decent with a 2P-bed and bathroom outside of the room. Nice breakfast prepared by José. Communication in Spanish with a bit of English.

José and Liz are perfect Hosts, you live with them in their house and you feel very welcomed immediately. They showed us the best places for dinner and we had a nice BBQ with them the other night. The breakfast is good and they even took us to India Dormida, It was fun to do the hike with them as Jose explained a lot and showed us a waterfall where we could swim in. He also offered to take us to another waterfall hike, which we could unfortunetlay not join as we had to leave. Great place, stay there!

Our hosts were a delight. The room was comfortable and we had our own private washroom with hot water and a shower. It felt like we were visiting friends. Walking distance to amenities yet it was lovely just relaxing in the late afternoon by the table. Rooms are simple yet comfortable. We me managed well between us with our language barrier. Google translate was used at times. El Valle is a wonderful little town with a great ambiance. We managed to hike to the top of India Dormida. What a view. I highly recommend this hike. It can be challenging, bring water. You can see the entire Valley from the top. We look forward to returning and would stay at DondeJosé again. Thank you for the full service breakfasts and all the little extras. You made us feel very welcome and at home.

Very kind host who can tell you everything about plants and animals in the El Valle district. He also knows a good Spanish restaurant. If he has time, he will accompany you for free during hikes like a mountain guide. He also jumps with you in the waterfalls ;-) His house is quiet, you can use the kitchen and his terrace is nice for bird watching.

For sure the people! They were so welcoming and friendly! Breakfast was made very sweetly as well. Good location to see things in El Valle

José and Liz really made me feel at home. You might think the price is a little high for just a room in someone’s house, but Jose offers free travel advice, personal guide services, bikes, a very comfortable patio garden, Spanish tortilla, along with lots of positivity and an adventurous spirit. It’s just a short walk to both the town center and trailheads. I spent double the time than I had planned there and had a wonderful time, despite the pandemic.
It’s fairly noisy in the early morning because of dogs and roosters, but that’s pretty tough to avoid anywhere in rural Latin America. Bring earplugs or headphones.

Lovely hosts.
Good location to start the climb of the mountain.
Roosters from neighbors start the day earlier than we need

SUCH an incredible and exceptional stay. Was essentially a homestay with Jose himself who is such a gracious host and just an awesome individual. Right after we checked in, he had bikes for us to use to explore and even took us on a personal tour around the town! He has two rooms which were both nice and comfortable as well as two bathrooms. You have full access to his kitchen and basically his home is your home! He made us a delicious breakfast in the morning of fresh bread with jams, farm fresh eggs, fresh fruit juice and (of course) coffee! He'll say his English is limited but it was enough to converse and get to know about him! Would HIGHLY recommend staying at his place if you are in town and want a unique local experience. His place is just outside the main "town" but it is so quick and easy to get there.
That our stay was so short! Would have loved to stay longer

Jose’ was very welcoming and helpful. I would highly recommend him and his wife as ambassadors to El Valle. The both go above and beyond to make us feel like family.
Didn’t like leaving.

Jose and Liz were exceptional hosts, great personalities, easy to talk to and on hand to help in any way they could.
Our bed was Huge and the room was comfortable.
Breakfast was included and we were able to do a laundry wash. We also had use of their bicycles which was handy for a quicker trip into town.
We weren't able to stay longer
