We very much enjoyed our stay. The house had plenty of room and very much enjoyed eating dinner on the porch. It was fun to walk down to the causeway after dinner and watch the sun set. We preferred staying in Southwest harbor because it was less crowed than bar harbor. Great hikes and swimming in Eco lake were within 15 min drive.

We were in Southwest Harbor for a week staying at the house and it was a wonderful property and location. It had everything we needed for our family and while it is dated it is cozy as well!

This is the kind of Maine home you dream about. Beautiful big fireplace, huge wrap around front porch, lovely details and old time charm. This house was so comfortable for our family of three generations. The location was perfect for everyone. Walk to the working docks and watch the lobster boats go out, or into the town of Southwest Harbor for the cute shops, galleries and restaurants, or to the causeway, which is a hidden gem of tide pools and rushing water. It’s a nice shortish drive to Bar Harbor too. I can’t think of a better way to spend a week or two! And the hosts were wonderful!

We stayed here with our family of 5. It is away from any business, and a very nice place to return to after a day of exploring MDI. The cabin is a bit of a throwback to my grandma's house growing up, which i loved. The place is very clean and accommodating. The living room was so cozy and perfect to sit by the fire on a cool night. The second bathroom is a bit tight downstairs, but it works fine. We also loved cooking our own meals in the kitchen. Thank you!

Our group of 4 adults sure enjoyed the week in southwest harbor! The cottage was well stocked with everything we needed to cook delicious meals every night and end the evening with a fire in the large stone fireplace. We reconnected with our friends and will cherish this week in our memories forever!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful Arts & Crafts home. Very spacious and a large porch for relaxing. Loved that it was tucked away but also convenient to the Main St. It was well equipped and loved the large stone fireplace on cool nights. Will definitely return

Singing Hill was a great home away from home for our big group, which spanned three generations. The house has charm and personality, and was well stocked with everything we needed, including a kitchen we used to prepare a few home cooked meals. When we first arrived I was a little worried that it didn't have a/c (my fault for not noticing that in the listing), but the fans in every room and moderate Maine climate kept us comfortable. We loved staying on the "quiet side" where we could slow down and enjoy living at "island speed," while still venturing out to Bar Harbor and the Park Loop to see the park attractions. Being walking distance from the free Island Explorer shuttle (not to mention the yummy ice cream shop) was super convenient.

A spacious lovely home
This is a spacious and lovely home with plenty of room to spread out. The porch is a wonderful place for informal meals or to relax and read a book in one of the comfortable chairs or in the hammock. The home has an old world charm and is equipped with everything you could want or need. I love to cook and everything I needed was there from pots and pans to a drawer of spices and even a salad spinner..

Good times in Southwest Hatbor
This property is great. Was well stocked and had everything we needed. Can easily accomodate 10. Southwest Harbor is great. Has some shops and good restaurants but less tourists than Bar Harbor.

Comfortable home and great location
This is the second time I have stayed at this house with a group of friends. The house is spacious and comfortable and the location is perfect. We noted a few amenities missing this time which included no soap at the sink or in the shower in the downstairs bathroom, remotes in TVs had corroded batteries, burned out nightlight in living room. Flashlights were available in all bedrooms but some did not work. The overall experience was positive and our group enjoyed our time in this lovely home.

First visit to Acadia a success thanks to a home with good bones.
We planned a hiking vacation with 6 adults but 2 had to cancel at the last minute. Since house rate was reasonable, their absence did not hurt the wallet. Two baths were the only limitation with this home but 4 adults worked it out with no issues. Returning from a day on the trails, we were often too tired to appreciate the large porch or fireplace. Bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were the dominant locations in the house for us. Neighborhood was quiet. A little far for a walk to town center but bikes could work very well. Floors creaked, but that seemed to add to the charm. Heating of the bedrooms was tricky in October since there appears to be a heat source in only one of the bedrooms and the upstairs bath. Downstairs was always comfortable.. Our stay was for one week and we would definitely stay here again.

Terrific location
Property was as listed; an easy walk into town and down to causeway which is a great lace to enjoy a cup of coffee and hear the tides rush over the rocks.
Evenings were cool so we really enjoyed the fireplace. The kitchen is very well stocked with cookware and kitchen tools. Convenient to hiking trails. I would stay again.

Wonderful old house, great location
We really enjoyed this wonderful old house which was very well equipped for our stay. We had plenty of space for the four adults. We also enjoyed Southwest Harbor, particularly several of its restaurants. We highly recommend this property, particularly for families or several couples.

We loved Singing Hill!
One of the best rental experiences we’ve had. Cleanliness, organization, comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, location, I could go on and on. And the porch is fantastic. We look forward to coming back.

Charming historic home in SW Harbor
Our family of 6 spent two weeks at this delightful home. We chose the location because it is walking distance to the village of SW Harbor and quiet neighborhood and it did not disappoint! We had everything we needed; well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and mostly a gorgeous large front porch!

Great house
The location was perfect for exploring the quiet side. The house was clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was extremely well equipped for cooking. The beds were comfortable. We had a minor issue when we found no extra toilet paper and an empty bottle of dishwasher soap. Other than that, a perfect stay with many thanks to the owners for sharing their beautiful family home.

Loved this place
A very comfortable, cozy house in which you can feel the owners care for the property and tell that they enjoy it themselves - a good quality. Wonderfully well-equipped kitchen, comfortable great room, fabulous porch, games/books/magazines, thoughtful touches for guests. Enjoyed the fireplace during cool fall evenings. Property was clean, in a very pleasant neighborhood walking distance to harbor, shops/restaurants, & causeway. Quiet except for the church bells 4x/day for 12 minutes. Blew a fuse running a bath for the clawfoot tub, no problem re-setting it in basement. Power went out during a storm but there are flashlights throughout the rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic Getaway
My husband and I just wanted a change of scenery during this time of COVID. Being somewhat familiar with Southwest Harbor, we chose to stay there. We found this house and booked. It did not disappoint. A fire in the morning with coffee. A fire in the morning with cocktails and dinner. The proximity to town is close so you can walk everywhere. The proximity to Acadia National Park is very convenient - hiking trails everywhere. The house was charming and we loved it. The only drawback I can think of is there is only one full bath upstairs (another downstairs) so if you have a houseful (which we did not), that could be an issue. The hosts were quick to respond to my emails and very helpful when I needed suggestions on where to get an Acadia park pass printed out. I highly recommend this property.

Great location!!!
Location is fantastic - close to the center of town and a quick drive to hiking and bike trails. The house has a large, comfortable living room and a big eat in kitchen with all the appliances and utensils for cooking. The long, broad porch is great for outdoor eating and for hanging out on a rainy day.

Great location!
We enjoyed this nice older home for the excellent location and spacious outdoor space! Very well-stocked with everything needed for a comfortable week. The bedrooms were nice and beds were super comfy!!
The only drawback was the 2nd bathroom - it is off the kitchen (as advertised), which was okay but might be more convenient to use as a full bathroom if there was an accordion door or curtain separating the kitchen from the laundry/bathroom. This would make it so someone could come out of the shower and have a space to change and use the sink. But we made it work, and it def. was not a dealbreaker by any means!
We enjoyed the foot traffic down to the causeway, and walking to Flying Mountain!
Great house in beautiful SW Harbor!

Maine delight
We loved our stay here. The house has so much charm and was quite comfortable for our family of 6. The kitchen was the most well stocked of any VRBO property we’ve ever stayed in and the location was wonderful. So close to the free shuttle and a 5-10 minute walk to town. We would go back in a heartbeat!

This house was perfect!
We had a family reunion with our 5 grown kids and the house accommodated us so comfortably. The kitchen was fully stocked. There were plenty of towels. The neighborhood is peaceful and you can walk into southwest harbor town. There is a working fireplace, and the porch with the hammock was the icing on the cake! I could go on and on. Definitely a perfect stay!!!

The owner was extremely helpful and responsive. Before our trip, she shared valuable information.
The house was very comfortable for 4 adults and two children. The kitchen was the best stocked vacation home we have ever seen. Likewise, there were plenty linens, books, games, and brochures of local activities.
It was a short walk into town and a short walk to the beach and a short walk to several restaurants. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. In short, it was terrific. Thanks.

Charming Cottage
Very quiet neighborhood located with easy access to town and the main road. Enjoyed the birds singing in the morning and church bells on the 3s during the day and evening. Well equipped with amenities and charming atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A Perfect Vacation Home!
Sometimes you get really really lucky and hit the jackpot on your vacation. Singing Hill is such a jackpot! Three generations of our family (4 if you count the cookout on Fathers Day) lived there for a week and had the most incredible time on the “quiet side” of Mt. Desert Island (Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and all of its wonders are just quick jaunts away). A beautiful, well-maintained 1920’s era home, Singing Hill has a huge wrap around porch with flower boxes, hammock, and comfortable seating, an abundance of books and games for all ages, a floor to ceiling stone fireplace (with wood and kindling) in the cozy living room, a fully equipped kitchen, very comfortable beds, a huge dining room, a beautifully landscaped lawn, and just about everything you need when you “come home.” It is within easy walking distance down the lane of the most incredible causeway with wildlife including huge starfish (a big hit with the kids). The small town of Southwest Harbor has some great restaurants, an amazing library, a fully stocked grocery store, a wonderful bakery, a lobster pier on the harbor (Beal’s), and shops which are all just down the road from Singing Hill. Beautiful music from a church bell tower just down the way marks the passage of the days. The owners couldn’t have been more kind, responsive, and helpful and were the best imaginable hosts from afar. We give them and Singing Hill our heartiest and highest recommendation without any reservation whatsoever. You should go there!

Lovely home for our family!
We had such a nice time at Helen’s house! Our daughter loved that it was so accommodating for her 2.5 year old self with toys and books, and we loved the walk to the water nearby, where we spotted starfish and urchins. The house was also well furnished with cooking essentials, such that we even made popovers! Delightful stay, delightful host.

Lovely home in a great location!
We loved our stay at Singing Hill! The home is spacious and clean, and the kitchen is well equipped. We enjoyed exploring Southwest Harbor, Acadia, and Bar Harbor. We also drove north to Quoddy Head Lighthouse and the town of Lubec (about 2 1/2 hours away). There is a great coastal trail there along the sea cliffs and an amazing restaurant called "Frank's." If you have your passport you can even drive into Canada and see a couple more lighthouses. The autumn foliage was absolutely stunning everywhere we went. At night we got cozy by the beautiful, big fire place in the living room. A couple more food recommendations would be "The Travlin' Lobster" (best lobster rolls, if you catch them during their open season) and "2 Cats" for breakfast in Bar Harbor. Even though our stay was near the end of the tourist season and some restaurants etc. were closed, we still found plenty to do during our time in the area.

Great house, unfortunate noise
If you like old houses, you'll love this one. The floors are to die for. It is beautifully maintained and comfortably furnished, although the downstairs bathroom is even smaller than it appears in pictures. It has one of the best equipped kitchens we have encountered, and the nightlights and flashlights (presumably in case of a power outage) were appreciated. It is a very easy walk to downtown Southwest Harbor.
The downsides were being awakened very early, sometimes before 7 a.m., by construction across the street or neighbors' dogs barking for up to one-half hour, just like at home. These are reasons we generally stay in remote areas and will do so in the future. But the convenience is hard to beat and if you don't want to stay in the outer reaches of the island and either rise very early or can sleep through anything, it is a lovely old home. The porch would be lovely in better weather than we had in our late September stay. All in all, the house itself rates four stars but the surrounding noise lowers the overall rating.

Like home, but better!
We had a great time while staying at Singing Hill. The location is great...especially because we visit the causeway once or twice daily. We were able to walk to restaurants (Beal's Lobster Pound!), bakeries, and shopping. The house is homey, roomy, super clean, and charming. There is room for all members of a large party to spread out and have a place of their own. Many thanks to Helen for quick responses to questions and super suggestions about places to visit. We'll be back!

A well located gem
The owner couldn't have been more helpful in answering our questions. Access to the house was easy. The property is well maintained, comfortable and well located. We enjoyed walking into town, down to the causeway to watch the birds, tides and changing skies and to the local lobster pound. Even after labor day we appreciated being on the "quiet side" of MDI. The National park is in pockets around the island and many are near by. Travel to Bar Harbor and Park Loop Road is only 20-30 minutes on scenic roads. Would gladly stay again.

Idyllic location for a family vacation!
We recently spent an idyllic week at Singing Hill. The well loved home was meticulously stocked and prepared for a family vacation of any size. Our group varied in size from three to eight members. There was plenty of room and the home felt spacious and welcoming. Our days consisted of coffee and reading on the porch, croquet on the lawn, hiking, cycling and swimming in Acadia, ice cream in Southwest Harbor and reading and games in front of the glorious fireplace in the living room.
Thank you to our hosts who were amazing! We so hope that we get to enjoy your hospitality again in the future and that our travels take us back to Southwest Harbor!

Clean, lovely and peaceful. Miss it already!
"Singing Hill" surpassed our expectations. It was the cleanest and most well organized house we've ever rented, and was a short walk to a lovely, little village with shops and restaurants. The wrap-around porch was the nicest I've ever sat on, with a hammock which we practically fought over! It was our first time in The Bar Harbor area, and we can't wait to go back. Don't hesitate to rent this beautiful home with floor-to-ceiling fireplace and kitchen window through which you will see hummingbirds on a daily basis.
