Location: ideal (practically in the centre of the fort). Quiet. Adequate size room. Comfortable, good size bed. Breakfast suited our tastes very well and quantity was just right.

the whole area of WESTERWOLDE: quiet a peaceful area and relaxed and friendly people. We liked the oudside cafe-restaurant near Vlagtwedde, in and around an old farm, Forgot tehe name of it,but you already for sure;

In the bathroom I missed grips for older people ; beds were to narrow, although soft

I had a fantastic stay, very friendly staff, great location, will come back for sure

Room was fairly basic but comfortable.

The weather was colder than expected so an extra blanket would have been nice.

The property was quirky and perfectly located - the staff were very friendly and the fortress a great place to visit

it’s an interesting and novel place to stay, probably as part of a longer trip or just for a day or two.

Asked for two single beds, obviously because we wanted to sleep separately. Got two single beds made up as a double with one set of bedding. Next time I’ll double check that this is understood. Also the breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. It’s inexpensive so can’t really complain, but it’s not a hearty breakfast. Probably better going elsewhere if you want something more than a few rolls with ham and cheese and some jam, peanut butter, chocolate containers.

This was one of the best experiences ever. The location is to die for, inside the fort!

The rooms were larger than expected, and comfortable to move around in. Facilities were fine, the basics were covered, including tv, water kettle and 2 seating areas (in a 2 person room). Friendly room service too

Perfect location, middle of the town. Beat the early tourists and stay longer. Simple breakfast and not all restaurants are open every night.

Not all restaurants are open every nights, 1 is closed on the Friday night. So little choice, but food was good though. Small choice on the menu, due to issue with staff. Nice wine.

The towels were a bit wet and smelly. The breakfast is average (could be due to the fact that it was table service instead of the buffet).

The rooms are situated in the old fortress, which makes the stay an unique experience. Friendly staff, clean rooms and restaurant around the corner.

Taller persons should stay away from room 7, the bed is a boxbed, estimated length 190 cm.

Generously spaced room with a classic look and yet with recent furnishings and large bathroom. The room is situated in the middle of the historic fortress, which added to the experience. Breakfast was sufficient and worth the modest price. That is true for the room as well - you get a good deal for what you pay.

We found the map to hard to read and it took us about ten minutes to find our room. But the fortress is really small, and we figured it out without having to ask anyone.

We had our stay booked for originaly one night but instead we added another night. We decided so because our change of plans and the great first night in the accomodation. At our arrival we we're checked in by a very kind lady. She told us everyhting we had to know and gave us plenty of advice about what to see and do. The breakfast is lovely and plenty of choice. The room was lovely and just what you need. We enjoyed our 2 nights a lot and because you step back in time as the building date back a few centuries. We booked this place also because the money you pay for your stay is invested in maintaining the whole old vestibule. Keeping times long gone alive as the building have a story to tell. This stay was part of our trip throughout The Netherlands and discovering its history. We want to thank the staff for their kindness and proffesional help. We will be back one day.

Room was slightly dusty. The covers of the lamps mostly. Also the rack to hang your towels was almost falling off. This however is just a little remark and it did not made our experience/stay less good.

Great breakfast & the hospitality from the staff. They are very helpfull and professional. The lady that was serving us breakfast was kind and advised us some nice places to visit. The beds are very good and the room has its basic needs. For us it was all great especially because we decided to stay 2 nights. Bourtange is something magical and we we're very pleased to hear that the money from the bookings is invested to finance the maintenance of the whole historic site.

Our room was a bit dusty. The lamp covers had a lot of dust on them. In the bathroom the rack to hang you towels was very loose.

Beautiful location in the old town of Bourtange which we did bot expect! Great service, room had a bath tub which was an excellent bonus! Breakfast was perfect. The typical ‘bedstee’ from the north part of the Netherlands was cosy and comfortable. I really recommend this place, great value for money too.
