Cute wooden jungle cabin. Facilities clean and careful.
Small staircase to room.

Relaxing place to stay. Amazing architectural design. A blend of old and modern styles. Very close to the Unawatuna beach.
Nothing to mention.

- eine bessere Lage geht nicht. Mitten drin und trotzdem ruhig
- super freundliches Personal
- Moskitonetz

+ really friendly staff
+ tasty breakfast
+ stylish rooms
+ like a Jungle and a big monkey family came by one morning
+ a little bit off the busy Main road and definitely more quiet than other places (but still loud)
- we personally do not like Unawatuna (it is loud and Mass tourism) -> a good nights sleep is not possible. The accommodation provides earplugs, if you can sleep with them it will be fine
- the Open bathroom is really beautiful but you have too keep in mind that there are a lot of mosquitoes after rain
- overpriced compared to other places

This was my second time staying here - I originally stayed here at the beginning of my trip and then went up to Ella and decided to stay back at Dunes for a night on my way to the airport. I got upgraded to a lovely room with lots of space and lovely views from the balcony. The manager is a really great guy and super helpful - I was very happy to come back again for the second time. He also drove me to the airport too. Thank you and hope to visit again soon! The location is really good and I love the garden outside. Also great value for money.

I had a lovely stay! The bed was very big and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. The garden outside is beautiful and it was so nice waking up to that everyday and eating my breakfast. The shower was also good, though it takes a few mins to warm up. Location is great, in the middle of a street and right next to the beach. WiFi was also working really well. Had a great experience and wont forget it - thank you Dunes! Id definitely book again.
The room was a bit tight so i managed to just about fit my suitcases in, but it wasnt a huge issue. The bed linen is very thin as well so a blanket was needed, which i requested for and they gave me a warm one.

The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The location is in the Middle of Unawatuna but tucked off the main highstreet such that it feels you are secluded in a rainforest. Absolutely gorgeous escape. Good value for money. Room facilities - waters, fridge, shampoos etc - were well prepared. The staff arranged our transfer to our next destination too.
We loved it and would stay again.

Dunes was a very calm and quiet hotel. Well worth the price and the location was awesome- both in terms of reachability and the property itself. Seven to ten minutes walk to the beach and the surrounding eateries suited our needs well. Hope to visit again soon!
Really nothing. It’s not an exaggeration to say that everything was perfect for us. Although I wish we could’ve tried the breakfast at least once.

This is a really nice place with a wonderful personal garden. There is a variety of animals living in the garden, and you can hear that all day and night long :) So if you love and value the nature, you will definitely appreciate the stay in this place. It feels like living in the middle of a jungle, yet with a good and helpful staff around and nice facilities and a very beautifully designed room. We stayed in a bungalow room in the garden, so we were even closer to the nature. On top of everything the bathroom was partially outside the room:) Cool idea.
Another thing I’d like to mention is that the usage of plastic is reduced to a minimum. Great respect for that.

Great hotel when visiting Unawatuna! It's located in the somewhat busy Main Street but the hotel is a really calm and relaxt place. We have chosen the bungalow which was great! We had our own terrace and a beautiful outside shower. Great value for money when you compare to other hotels at the South Coast of Sri Lanka.
A swimming pool would be nice but as you are only 2 minutes walking for the beach it's nog big issue. As they combined to rooms under one open roof it was somewhat loud. However, they did their best to minimize this and also gave earplugs.

My stay was very short at this lovely hotel. I wish I had another day to enjoy it. This town was a lively tourist hub with lots of action and traffic and restaurants and it was so nice to return to this secret garden oasis. I do not know how they managed it but once you walked through the gates all the chaos of the town vanished! The staff was so nice, the manager kindly arranged a crack-of-dawn ride to the airport for me. And the room!! It was small but so nicely appointed. There were lots of great touches. Unfortunately, I was not around for breakfast but the menu looked great. I cannot say enough about this fabulous little gem!
I really can't think of a thing to dislike. Maybe the smallness of my room coupled with the large bed might have annoyed me after a few days but I would pay money to test that theory.

The location was perfect to wander down to the beach but also in a quiet area. My room overlooked the garden. We could watch squirrels and birds feeding in the big tree over breakfast. Breakfast was delicious and good value. They provided beach towels and nice shampoo etc.
Nothing. I would stay there again.

beautiful property, felt like a sanctuary but then right in the centre of town.
staff were so lovely
room really spacious and well equipped
monkeys and lots of wildlife in the garden
lots of little extras- beach towels available, welcome drink, a gift of mango tea to take away.
would highly recommend for the price

Comfort, cleanliness, quiet place, pleasant service
It’s not a con, but you should know that the hotel’s restaurant serves only breakfast (which is always fresh and good). You could ask about recommendations for lunch and dinner cafes and restaurants from the host or your fellow neighbours during breakfast.

one of the nicer places in a busy tourist area. beautiful gardens, great breakfast
room 7 has washing machines outside the room which go from 9am to 10pm all day which is not peaceful and reduces the enjoyment of the otherwise great property

it has a nice garden and polite staff.

We had booked another hotel for our 4 day stay at unawatuna earlier however we changed it just over a week before our visit by looking at the photos of the property and the distance of this hotel to the beach and our diving center.
The entire hotel had wooden finish across and had excellent staff especially Dhanuska, who would go out of his way to make sure our stay here is well taken care of.
We were given an upgrade on our rooms upon our visit and we enjoyed the stay comfortably.
Right from making sure our pick up and drop from the airport was taken care of. Our meals preferences would be shared a day prior and it would be served at a time convenient to us. Even though the food would be served at set hours, they made an exception for us since we had to reach our diving center with one hour of food break!
The area is serene and has lot of greenery and gives you a feeling of staying away from the urban landscape which is just few meters away!
The stay was exceptional and we were accorded a luxurious stay there with tremendous value for money that we invested here.
I would recommend this place as it’s at the main market street which gives you access to lot of restaurants and shops and a 5 min walk to the beach.

literally everything.. out of 30 days in Sri Lanka, this is by far the best place we’ve stayed in (including the Hilton)!
Would be nice if breakfast was included in the price, we knew this before of course so it’s not a negative but rather a suggestion 😊

We stayed 3 nights in one of the upper rooms with balcony. We had an amazing stay. Room is pretty, spacious and has a beautiful view on the garden. Staff is the best, so super friendly and helpful, they made our stay superb.

How wonderful to awake with the sounds of birds in the trees opposite our balcony, and the sharp ”squeaks” of squirrels, alarmed by the passing of a ruddy mongoose. The mammal is searching for the downy black chickens of the white-breasted waterhens, living at the pond.
A red-backed flameback woodpecker climbs the magnificent trees. Further on, some monkeys playing around.
This place is like an oasis, surrounded by bustling tourist activities in the seaside resorts of Unawatuna.
Relax and enjoy the nature! A wonderful place to stay!

It felt very secluded, quiet and natural. Unawatuna is a very touristy commercial type place but dune was very relaxing and comfortable.
Everything was perfect
