Hospitality was bad, no warm welcome, no basic information given about things to do etc erc. Dead Vibe. Bad songs played at the cafe which has such an amazing location. Could have been much better. Smelly bathrooms, broken fittings, hostel not maintained properly .

View from the roof top restaurant is exotic. Play your own songs on party speaker is over whelming. Enjoyed cozy laydown on hammock which is available separately for all guests.

Bathroom in A frame cottage had water logging issues. Property owner new about it and kept mop to drain water. It's weird to mop and drain water after our bath inside bathroom. Unfortunately our A frame cottage lock broken at 11 PM. Door has only one key lock. We sealed our room with cello fen tape to sleep, however I felt insecure without locked door.

This property dint look nice as compared to the other Zostel properties. And the price of the room was a bit too much.

Except the location, my overall experience with zostel is very bad. Not at all recommended

The rooms are not at all cleaned. Very unhygienic and also the food is worst in the cafe.

Only good thing about this property is the beach accessibility. Walkable distance from black sand beach.

Theres a “No slippers allowed” property policy which I only got to know after I checked in. The floor is sticky and very uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. You cannot wear any slippers inside the building. None of this was mentioned in the policy document of Zostel Varkala which was disappointing. When asked about this, the receptionist was rude and said nobody complained and it was just my problem. And asked me to check zostel site and not third party websites. If you’ve listed your property on a third party website you have all the responsibility to mention every policy or provide indoor slippers for those in need. Overall the stay wasn’t appealing, because of the damp floors which were uncomfortable to walk on.

worst place to stay, I will no recommend this place, open drug use, all sort of illegal activities going on, not at all safe for women travelers

everything, we were just waiting for the day to get over, and run away. since we had already paid and no refund policy stopped us

Restaurant is pathetic.

Had an amazing time at Zostel Varakala, largely thanks to Zaya and Mohamed, 2 staff members that went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. Thanks guys!

1. no footwear inside whole property, even when it is not cleaned 2. air conditioning doesn’t work during the day properly due to it being not cleaned properly 3. cafe is not upto the mark 4. wi-fi doesn’t work properly and it’s coverage is also very bad throughout the property
