Our favorite family vacation so far and it had a lot to do with where we stayed. The cabin was very modern, spacious, comfortable and had everything we needed for a good time. The kitchen was big and well-stocked, the beds were comfortable with nice linens. Eight of us stayed and we had plenty of room. There were two large tables where we could gather and play games. A large hot tub was on the back patio right out the door so very easy to get to and the view was beautiful! There was an amazing fire pit all ready to go and the host had corn hole, a hammock and a large swing the kids enjoyed. The best part was the view from the back deck!! It looked over a beautiful valley surrounded by pine trees. I loved the view every morning and evening and was sad to leave. The deck had a grill which we used twice and a table with very comfy patio furniture to sit and enjoy the view and visit with each other. The cabin is tucked away where you have lots of peace and quiet and privacy. Yet it was close enough to all the fun things we wanted to do at Mt. Rushmore, Custer State Park and the surrounding sights. On our last night there the kids wanted to forgo some activities and just hang out at the cabin because it was so nice and comfortable. We grilled, enjoyed the view, played games and enjoyed the hot tub. Wanted to use the fire pit but it was raining. My family enjoyed this place so much we’re talking about coming back every summer. David was nicest host and made our stay so pleasant.

Gorgeous views and lots of privacy

Our entire family enjoyed the stay. This house is large and beautiful with ample supplies and furnishings. The kitchen was well stocked. There is a good supply of toys and puzzles for the kids plus a pool table. The house was very clean and everything in order. Kids enjoyed bikes, picking wildflowers and berries and riding the trails in RZRs and especially the swing. The adults appreciated the quietness of the area, the amazing meadow of purple wildflowers in front of the house, sunrise coffee on the deck, the fire pit and the absence of traffic and noise. The layout and design of the house provided privacy for each family and ample gathering places for meals. Grilled and ate meals on the large deck. The baby turkeys were entertaining and a surprise. The house is fabulous, Dave maintained daily contact with us ensuring we had all we needed and understood the access trail for the RZR. I would recommend this house if you want to put your feet up, have a glass of wine and experience having a piece of the Black Hills all to yourself. Perfectly relaxing but only minutes from the bustle of tourist activities. It's also perfect for bringing ATVs to go out on the many numbered trails accessible. Some of our group even got to climb the Bear Mountain Lookout Tower. It's a ten!

Very nice location away from it all (except the flies - make sure to bring a fly swatter). Thoroughly enjoyed the very well stocked kitchen, the pool table, hot tub, large deck and the incredible views. As mentioned in other reviews the kids loved running back and forth on the deck. We had some great croquet games on the lawn near the fire pit.

Amazing view from the wrap around porch. Super clean house with all the necessities you need. The property manager was so quick with responses. The property manager was also kind enough to alert of us of the possibility of bad weather, one evening. Very thoughtful.

This house was perfect for our group of seven for our week stay. The house was clean and property owner kept in contact to ensure our stay was great. Unbeatable views from the property and the central location worked great for all the activities. Would highly recommend and hope to be back!

David and Sarah were amazing hosts and the property couldn't have been better! All the reviews about a beautiful property and well-stocked kitchen were accurate! There was also plenty of parking for our three trucks, two trailers and four SxSs. Access to the trails was right there, which we loved. We enjoyed lots of time on the deck, in the hot tub, playing cornhole (they provided) and other yard games (that we brought), and playing cards at the perfect 8-seater table downstairs when we weren't out riding. Sleep with the windows open if it's not too cold and you can hear the creek. Just awesome. Of course we had lots of rain so the water was high and moving pretty good, it seemed. French Creek Farm provided all we could ever need the day it was raining too hard to trail ride. This property is the perfect distance to Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Needles Highway, Hill City, Custer State Park and many of the random trails in the Black Hills. We put on 70-80 miles each day we rode. While we missed the yaks, we enjoyed Gypsy and Wyatt the horses, and saw other wildlife throughout our 5 night stay (a few marmots, 3 deer, 2 turkeys, lots of birds and chipmunks, and even a coyote our last morning). We never did have a fire, but only because it was either too wet or we were too exhausted from all our fun! We also appreciated the reasonable price and can't wait to go back when the yaks are there! Clean, nicer than expected, beautiful setting, super quiet, private…..all of the things you want in a rental. Great communication with the host. Would definitely stay again.

We absolutely loved this home! We had 3 generations gather there to attend the Custer State Park Buffalo Roundup and see Mt Rushmore. The location was perfect for the ultimate Black Hills experience. Tha host Dave was so responsive to all of our questions! We loved his yaks. They are very curious and will walk over to the fence to greet you! The home had the most well appointed kitchen! We enjoyed coffee on the deck each morning and cooked family meals every night. We loved the fireplace for the chilly night. The kids explored the surrounding forest, played pool, games and puzzles. We enjoyed the amazing view of the valley and the mountains! I am a premier host in Florida so my standards are high and this home exceeded all expectations. I would highly recommend staying here for your next vacation!

We had a great time visiting the Black Hills for the first time and staying at this beautiful home tucked in a valley away from it all. My parents loved relaxing in the rockers on the deck in the morning overlooking the property. I enjoyed the calmness you felt with how quiet it was when you were on the property. The house itself is great, has everything you would need and great finishes. We were out and about most days since it was our first time exploring the area. However, if we come back to the Black Hills I would love to stay here again and spend more time relaxing at the house. Dave was very easy to communicate with and we did take up the offer for the farm tour and to meet the yaks which were very friendly. We took his advice to hike 1.5 miles down the west valley and saw some more deer and about half a dozen elk heading up the western slope on the way back. Definitely recommend this place. Probably the best rental we've stayed at so far on our travels.

Our love for the Black Hills goes deep and when we come here we want to be far away from others. We enjoyed jumping on RZR trails right from the house. Great stay and great communication with Dave and Sarah!

We had an amazing trip at this beautiful yak farm. We had 8 adults(4 couples) and had more than enough space in this new home. Everyone loved getting to view the Yaks and the gorgeous views from the extra large deck. The home has everything you need plus a pool table, dart board, bags, access to OHV trails, etc…. If you like to cook the kitchen is a dream! If we travel here again this would our first choice. We also loved the easy access to the OHV trails. So much fun!

My best friends and I do a guys weekend every year with our dads. This was the perfect place to get away. Minutes from downtown Custer and central to any activity you can think up in the Black Hills. The property is tucked away in a valley giving you stunning views of nature in your own private sanctuary. The house is huge with plenty of amenities, games provided for the perfect hangout. We will definitely be coming back.

The property is absolutely beautiful. Extremely spacious accommodations with a huge open kitchen which is great for visiting, cooking and eating with family and playing games. Our favorite part was watching the stars by the fire at night. The owners are amazing and very helpful.

This was our first VRBO rental experience. The property was beautiful and was even better than the listing showed us. The hosts were the most helpful and friendly people we could have asked for. They even came out to let the us all feed the Yaks, which was a great hit with everyone of us. You will not be disappointed in this rental.

I don't think there are sufficient words to express how much we loved this house and were very sad to leave it! We are on holiday from England and have stayed in 3 houses in the US, this one was by far our favourite. The owners are friendly and helpful and made the check-in process very easy. The location of the house is stunning, absolute peace, wonderful views and yet makes visiting all the local attractions easy. The house is fitted to an extremely high standard, the bathrooms are beautiful, beds and furniture comfortable and every utensil you could possibly require is in the kitchen! We would return in a heartbeat! Highly recommended!

This is a wonderful property! The cabin is clean, spacious, and fully stocked with everything that we needed. We spent a lot of time on the deck and it was so quiet and peaceful. We loved watching the yaks moving about the valley and we enjoyed hiking up the property to see them closer. The host took time out of his day to give our kiddos a ride up the valley to see them and to talk with us about the farm. The location of the property was great for us, as it was remote and quiet but also centrally located and not too far from the major attractions. The host was very communicative and he responded to my messages within just a couple of minutes. I would definitely stay here again and recommend the property to a friend!

I spend a lot of time searching for vacation rental properties. The best way I can put it is that I know the right place when I see it. I had been looking for several months and when this place showed up in my searchI instantly knew it was exactly what we were looking for. We were looking for space to share with our immediate family along with some siblings and their spouses. We absolutely loved the remoteness (about 10 minutes of gravel road off the main highway) and the complete peace and quiet. If you are looking for hustle-and-bustle, you may want to keep looking but if you like hearing wind blowing through pine trees, birds singing and a babbling brook then this is the place. The house itself was extremely well supplied. I've rented a lot of places and I have never seen the breadth and depth of the supplies at this home. We had a little bit of food for starters when we arrived and with that we were completely set. Several of our guests were the creative cooks and they very much enjoyed finding everything they wanted and needed to prepare their food. The pool table and dart board were great fun and the kids liked being able to stream videos in the evening. The firepit was a super place to gather. The evenings were chilly so company around the fire and a bit of s'more making was just the thing. The deck was the first place everybody would go after making coffee in the morning. It is real easy to sit and just soak up the peace and find two hours gone by. Also an outstanding place for a glass of wine or beer before dinner. The owners were great to deal with. Instructions for check in were spot-on and despite the relative remoteness, we drove right to it without any issues. The owners have animals on the property that require some attention and they did so in a way that was engaging and non-instrusive. Our daughters got a custom tour of and education about the yaks. We were very fortunate to witness a baby yak that was less than an hour old when we first saw it and watch it for the first two weeks of its life - adorable. I consider myself a realistic reviewer when it comes to vacation rentals. I rate this as the best place we've ever stayed on a pretty long list of rentals. Nobody in my family disagrees. We visit the Black Hills periodically and this will absolutely be our go-to home rental when visiting.

Seriously - nothing is left undone in this property - the place is amazing all the way down to the details - even the toilet paper was perfect. But yaks oh my. And the owner bringing me yak meat so I could barbecue yak and eat yak while looking at a yak - and I didn’t yak the yak because it was delicious. My kids wanted to stay there - the property is full of things to do - and the fireplace s’mores were a huge hit. We are big travelers and I say this without hesitation - stay here and you will create a lifelong memory!

My family of 5, my brother’s family of 4 and our parents stayed for a week. We explored the property, loved evenings & mornings out on the deck and loved seeing all the wildlife. The property was even better than expected. We will definitely be back!

We have stayed at many rentals throughout the Black Hills, and this was by far our favorite. The house is spectacular, and the pictures really don’t do it justice. It’s huge, the bathrooms are wonderful, and the whole house is done in a tasteful and elegant style. Additionally, the seclusion and privacy of the farm added another layer of peacefulness to our stay. There are no other houses to be seen, and it was great having coffee on the deck in the mornings watching the sun rise over the valley. To top it all off, the hosts were the most welcoming and friendly owners that we’ve ever had. We are already planning our next stay here. Thank You for such a wonderful experience!

We had such a wonderful time in South Dakota! The house was very well stocked and worked perfectly for our set up (family of 4 with two kids-age 2&3 plus two grandparents)! Our kids absolutely loved running around on the deck and “talking to” the rooster and chickens! Many evenings, the horses up on the hill were right outside the kitchen window! The property is so serene and was such a nice break from our busy lives at home. We were able to visit all of the major sites while there. The location of the house was very nice in allowing us to have easy access for our plans! Overall, a beautiful rental and experience!!

The yak farm is a perfect place for a peaceful family getaway. We loved the privacy of the farm and the sights and sounds of nature surrounding us. The large deck was fantastic for morning coffee and spotting meteor showers at the end of each night. The kitchen is spacious and modern, and provides another great gathering spot for the family. The owners not only built a beautiful home, they were welcoming and eager to ensure our trip went flawlessly. We'd love to return for another wonderful vacation to the Black Hills!

We couldn’t have had a better experience. We are nature lovers who live in the city and the ability to step back and relax on this tranquil piece of paradise was so refreshing. The house was well stocked, very clean, all needs were met, the rooms are spacious, and the porch was the best coffee sipping porch around. The horses greet you in the mornings and the Yaks are adorable. The location was ideal for so many great adventures. I wish we had more time:)

Property was very nice, as was owner, who was very quick to respond to any questions or requests. Was given tour of farm and saw Elk, coyotes and plenty of deer from the deck. Interior of property was very nice as well and had everything you may need. Would definitely recommend and would try to book again if in the area in the future.

GPS took us all the way to the location no problem. It’s a few miles of gravel but once you get back there it’s super private. Looks like a great area for ATV or horseback riding. Very private setting. Looks like there will be an additional guest cabin or 2 on the property in the near future and would have potential for additional guests.
