We will rebook next year but our fear is that the whole feel will be different; The rooftop sitting area was wonderful unfortunately, the Friars Inn is being surrounded by a new 45 room 3 story B&B according to a local neighbor. Unfortunately, that may ruin the rooftop lounging area and overall feel of the small family Inn & Pub.

The room was nice and clean. The breakfast was delicious. Our waiter and waitress were both very good.

I didn’t like our waiter being interrupted by the owner to help some other customers while he was answering a question we had. I felt the owner was micromanaging her team by the interruption, appearing to cause the waitstaff to be on edge, and when went downstairs and entered the bar she told us to go back and wait in the living room until they were ready for us. We walked back a few feet to that area and then she said “right this way you can follow me”. There were open chairs at the bar so it didn’t really make sense for the need to do that

This place has an outstanding energy! The rooms are cozy and with god size. We stayed at one that has a roof window and we could se the moon during the night. The fact that the Inn has a Pub is so great! Breakfast has many options, everything is delicious and the hostess are really funny.

They don't have elevators and the stairs are thin, so be sure to take only the necessary to your room, or you are going to do some workout.

We loved the sitting area loft in our room. It was also nice to have dinner and a drink and just walk up stairs to bed. A very comfortable room in a location close to shopping and restaurants but far enough away not to have to hear it all either.

"quiet room" was dingy and unappealing. Beer and evening meal was overpriced, no doubt just because it was in Bar Harbour. There is an extensive building site just next door; didn't affect us as we were there at the weekend.

The inn itself is lovely with quirky comfortable rooms, a lovely little bar and restaurant with good food. We would happily return if it weren't for the owner.

The owner isn't forthright, she's plain rude. There was no welcome upon arrival, only a demand for the remainder of the outstanding balance. We were well aware that the checkout time was 10am. We arrived in the pub for breakfast at 9.10am and Jamie reminded us of the checkout time. Our breakfast was served 45 minutes later. 10 minutes later I heard the owner tell Jamie to inform us that we were late checking out. I pointed out to her directly that we had been waiting 45 minutes for our breakfast to be served. In her opinion this was me "having an attitude". She doesn't seem to appreciate that it is her own complete lack of inter-personal skills that result in negative reviews being posted about the inn.

the owners should be in the hostility business not hospitality.

A room with an old nostalgic design, in a beautiful style with a delightful smell of the linens and soaps. Special atmosphere in the rooms, perfect breakfast

We waited a long time for check in. The room is small and the bed is under a low ceiling, it was very unconvieniet.

The breakfast was fabulous! Cozy and very comfortable room. Every staff member was friendly and helpful.

Currently, there is construction happening next-door. It’s definitely not the Inn’s preferred situation, and in no way are they responsible for the noise. Just thought it was worth mentioning. That being said, construction noise didn’t start until 8 AM.

Great little bed and breakfast in the heart of Bar Harbor. The property is just steps from the main streets in Bar Harbor and a quick walk to many bars and restaurants. Plus the Inn has an excellent restaurant and bar of their own, which we loved!

Our room at the Inn was beautiful, clean & comfortable. Loved having the Black Friar Inn downstairs from our room, we ordered takeout and ate in the comfort of our room. Restaurant was busy and appeared to be understaffed but the staff was friendly, upbeat & helpful.
