Ours was a "magical" experience.
We were here 20 years ago and the place is more beautiful than I can remember.
Staff is incredible, food is excellent, wine is fantastic, grounds are immaculate/picturesque/stunning.
This was Five Star in every sense

Wonderful experience in a Castle built in 790 AD. Resturant was fantastic. Food and wines were great. If you want a unique experience in Tuscany, then this is a must on your list.

Such a gorgeous location overlooking the country. The staff was amazing and went out of their way to help us when our vehicle got stuck. The breakfast was superb as was all the dining. It's a great location to take day trips and to see the countryside. Not too far from shopping and other restaurants. This was an overall favorite of our trip to Italy.

Great stay in this old castle. Beautiful setting with fantastic views.
Room was good size with adequate storage for lots of luggage. Pool is very nice (but a bit cold in May). Various places to sit, relax and have a glass of wine. On site restaurant has varied menu and breakfast is more than a meal. So many choices of meat, fruit, breads, pastries...
Leonardo is great at reception an we had several long conversations, both in English and in Italian. He is well traveled and understands what expectations are and he exceeds them. Anastasia is great at breakfast and makes sure you are taken care of.
Road to get there is a little challenging and signage is tough to spot the first time. It is a really sharp turn. Castle is very centrally located so day trips to all the surrounding villages is very easy. Central to San Gimignano, Siena, Castellina in Chianti, Icario Winery, etc.
Highly recommended

We enjoyed staying in a castle that was built in 780 A.D. It is amazing that the owners/operators provide you with all modern amenities in such an old castle.
The drive to the castle is a bit of a challenge (sharp turns and the steepness of the road). The staff is friendly and very helpful.

I booked this property because of the VIP perks. One of them being a bottle of wine. I never received this.
But the place is lovely. The staff are amazing and I would definitely return. I don’t know who made the mistake in what is offered.

Positives: It was unique to stay in a mini castle, and we enjoyed having a bottle of wine included in our stay. The outdoor sofa area was really nice to enjoy our bottle of wine at. The gentlemen serving us was very pleasant and the views were great!
Negatives: We were informed when we checked in that breakfast wasn’t included. We thought that was strange considering we were paying $300 cdn per night. The bed in our room was awful. It was hard / saggy / bouncy. We woke up both mornings with a back ache. Room decor was very dated.
Some things that turned us off was having to pay 5 euro per person to use a pool towel and it was quite pricy for for the beverages ($7 cdn for a soda). We ended up going to the “local” supermarket to purchase sodas, water, and fruit for breakfast.

This is a lovely property! The staff is wonderful and caring. Relaxing and peaceful, this is a perfect place to unwind. We stayed in a room outside of the castle and it was spacious and quiet. The bathroom I was spa-like with a huge soaking tub as well as a shower. The food was excellent. A perfect retreat!

Staying here was the best part of our trip to Italy. The view, our hotel room in the castle, the historic stairway and rooms to the tower, the winetasting, the full breakfast on the terrace, the pool & lounge chairs, and especially the service (thanks, Loredana!) were superb. We will definitely be back! The restaurant is good and there are more great restaurants nearby (try Malborghetta).

Absolutely amazing! I wanted to stay at a castle and this place was perfect! We had a one bedroom apartment, old farmers quarters. Wine, food, staff... my favorite stop on our trip. If we ever return I would stay here again. I highly recommend it- not for kids, but great for adult time!

Such an incredible place to stay with so much history! The area was beautiful however highly recommend having a car to explore otherwise you won’t see too much of it. The accommodation was lovely and staff were very friendly. Only one recommendation would be to provide some information about things around the area to see/do otherwise it was wonderful! Thank you!!

Amazing, tranquil place. Castello exceeded our expectations in every aspect: from check in, to room amenities, to local area, to cuisine and wine. Everything was simply perfect. Thank you!

It was first time staying in Tuscany and it was amazing. My main point of choosing this over others was that it is historic about 1000 years old castle. Overall, for that purpose and view on the top of castle was awesome. They have mainly three wines and those are really really good. We did full cooking class with Ana the COOK :). It was so good and Ana's energy is really lively.

We had mixed feelings about our stay here. Firstly, it was very difficult to find (it is on google maps twice in two different places, and their own website directed us to a layby). The road up to the hotel is a steep gravel track which our little Fiat 500 just about survived. We had booked a one bedroom apartment. On arrival, after walking round the building twice with the person showing us our room, we were shown to a cell sized room with bunk beds, before actually getting the room we booked after protesting (we couldnt find the hotel, she couldnt find the room!) The apartment itself was nice, with original features, but the kitchen facilities felt limited (we did not use these in the end as we only stayed one night). We had originally planned to stay for 3 nights, but just stayed one night after a poor welcome, and as the location didnt suit us - it felt quite isolated, and we felt would be difficult to use as a base for accessing nearby Siena. The castle itself is beautiful and the restaurant was amazing - traditional Tuscan food, but in a modern style - the gnocchi with pistachio pesto was to die for, and the peposo (stew) was divine. The wine was lovely with the meal too, but it wouldve been good to have a wine tasting, but none were available until after we left. All in all, would we stay here again? No. While it was perfectly nice (and in some ways fantastic), it is set up as a place you escape to, and we just wanted to escape from it.

We stayed here for the first time 8 years ago, and although expensive at the time ... "I was staying at a Castle in Tuscany :-)”!!! The service was superb back then, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my most recent stay; minimal effort was made by the reception staff, when you could get their attention, and we saw no one else.
The dinner menu is posted far too late in the day to allow you to make a decision as to whether to eat there, rather than the area you are exploring. The one night we did have dinner in the restaurant, everyone seemed to have been given a table at the same time, but there were inadequate staff to be able to cope with this; although the food was good when we eventually got it.
We were staying in a self-catering apartment, but we chose to have breakfast one day with the other guests, as we were able to eat outdoors and enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding us. It was 12 Euros per person, which would have been worth it if there was some hot food (e.g. eggs, bacon, sausages, or pancakes, etc.), rather than just a cold buffet.
I believe that guests should be warned to hire a car with all-wheel drive. We had a Fiat Panda which really struggled to get both in and out of the property’s half mile driveway, due to it’s steepness in a few places and 95% dirt road.
We enjoyed our stay overall, but are not likely to be returning to this venue.

We arrived in a torrential storm and access to the hotel reception is not good, even in good weather you cannot get direct access to the entrance, you are expected to park your car in the car park, 100 meters away .We were lucky enough to be upgraded to the tower suite which was fabulous, but had to ask for the heating to be put on as given the weather the suite was cold. Eventually the suite did warm up but we were obliged to keep the heating on throughout the night. We would be concerned if we were planning to stay during the colder months of the year. The restaurant was disappointing given the price of the hotel. There was no choice of evening meal, no a la carte menu, we were obliged to eat the set menu , and there was no choice within that menu. The food was OK but nothing special given the 40 euro price tag, It was quite a basic meal.Given the location of the hotel, we had no inclination to go out to the nearest village to seek an evening meal .Overall we thought the hotel/meal was overpriced, we felt the restaurant certainly let the hotel down.

Castello di Tornano is a cool place to stay for 2 to 3 days. The location is in the middle of the Chianti region. It takes about 25 minutes to high way. You need to drive about 1.5 miles unpaved road to the hotel. The service is great. The chef, Manuele, is great cook and very nice. He even came to cook for couple of guests on his day off because they arrived late and needed something to eat. My wife and I stayed in one of the apartments, not in the main castle and it's lack of update in the apartment. The bathroom is really outdated. The wifi works in the main building, but not in the apartments. We couldn't get the wifi in the fist floor in our room, and we only get 1 bar of signal on second floor sometimes. In order to get better signal, we have to raise our hand sometime on second floor in order to get better signal. It shouldn't be so difficult to fix the wifi issue, but they didn't even try to improve.

An amazing place! We found peace and quiet, it was the perfect place to regroup after the hustle and bustle of Rome and Venice. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments, and it was the perfect size for our family of four. Our two boys loved the idea of staying at a castle with a pool and my husband and I loved the gourmet meals and terrific wine! The scenery/background was breathtaking.

We enjoyed our short stay at the hotel. Our room had its own private balcony facing west to enjoy the late afternoon sun and sunet.
The evening meal was very good, just the right amount of food, and the pace of bringing the meal made for a quiet, relaxing and romantic setting.
We would have liked to have the hottub a warmer so we could have used it at night as we were there in October.
We loved the story of the cat and how she came to be at the hotel. We would recommend a stay here to our friends.

A nice hotel, however not great if you are bringing children, or have food preferences.
The hotel rooms were quite pretty. We found them hot in the summer time as there is no Air conditioning. It would be better to visit any other time but summer.
The place is pretty isolated so you are at the mercy of the hotel for food - which is pricy and you have no choice for dinner for the menu or time you eat! The chef appeared quite arrogant.
The other staff were very nice.

an amazing hidden treasure in the heart of tuscany
the staff were more then happy to help or offer advise on anything
and were always keen to here where we'd been for the day
and recomended some gems
victor was fabulous and the wine tasting was fantastic
we were checkin every bottle every time we went out
treat yourself and have a meal at the restuarant for somethinng
truely italian and tuscan,
the castello is set up a windy gravel road, but that just made
it more exciting that it was hidden away from everyone.
I can't praise this place enough, we had an apartment which was just
fabulous we could sit on the terrace drinking all the chanti we'd just brought
having a fridge is a god send for all the ham and cheese purchased,
and a powerful desent shower we could ask for anything more
there was nothing we needed or wanted from this place
you can do as much or as little as you want
we will be back soon
