This hotel is housed in a beautiful, centuries old building with remarkable charm; you'll feel transported to medieval England in a very good way. However, the age of the building does come with some negatives; the stairs to my room (2) were quite steep, and the room itself was just big enough to house the king size bed within it.
Additionally, the walls are quite thin, so you'll hear activity from the restaurant below until about 11pm, and potentially later from adjacent rooms (I could clearly hear my neighbour snoring!).
None of this was an issue for me, as I sleep late and heavy, but I imagine it could be serious for some.
What made the trip worth it however was the food; oh the food! I travel for work and pleasure easily 50+ times a year, and I can honestly say that it's difficult to remember a time I've had better food than this. The chef(s) offer a perfect combination of rustic Britishness with European refinement, and powerful flavours to bring it all home. Honestly, even if the rest of my stay had been a 3 star experience, I would've returned again just 5o experience their culinary delights once more.
To briefly summarise; I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough to food lovers, but advise caution for light sleepers (though they do provide complimentary earplugs).

Lovely stay thank you

Restaurant very good - food is excellent. However if staying be aware that some of the rooms are tiny, and as such I think overpriced.

Pub is a lovely place to stay, the room i had was small but well equipped and perfectly good for the duration of my stay. The shower was cracking! .. The a la carte menu was not my thing but the food did look really nice. I would stay again if working that way again.

Comfortable bed and pillows - lovely building, friendly staff. Room and bathroom TINY! And steep twisty stairs to get to it - our room was certainly not suitable for everyone so perhaps put a “steep, tight, twisty stairs access” advice to some rooms ?

This is a very clean and comfortable hotel. The food and drinks are too notch but the highlight is the excellent staff, every one of them.

The accommodation at The Dog is just average. Rooms need refreshing and updating with everything looking faded and dated. For £200/night, we expected something special and all we got was dull and ordinary. However, the food - both dinner (extra) and breakfast (included) was outstanding, with good service. Next time I’d stay somewhere else and just eat at The Dog.

Late stay based on a personal recommendation. I am annoyingly picky by nature but was pleasantly surprised. The room is well formed and comfortable. The restaurant is very inviting and the food...outstanding. It is clear the venue values its patrons and a lot of thought goes into ensuring quality. The staff make the experience. Would 100% recommend.

Overall we had a pleasant stay. The breakfast was nice and we enjoyed a nice afternoon in the bar playing boardgames. We were disappointed by our dinner, which was the main attraction for us. The portions were very small and both dishes (pork and brill) were far too salty - my partner couldn't actually eat his as it was so salty. We stayed in room one which was very small and directly above the bar / kitchen so very noisy until gone midnight, and again from 7ish. Wingham is a pleasant village and we enjoyed walking around. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely cosy Inn with excellent food menu and cooked to a high standard. Quiet room even though it sits on a main road, the cosy room we were given had al other amenities, including a hair dryer and tea/coffee making facilities. The only point I would make is that the stairs to the rooms are quite steep so you would have to enquire directly if they have rooms for elderly or disabled as it is a 15th century property.

The staff at the Dog were very welcoming and professional. Our room was spotless. The breakfast was excellent

Food very good and clearly better than the local pub grub, but you do pay a little extra. The discretionary payment for service appears automatically? Rooms small and try to avoid the noisy kitchen extraction fan side of the building. Smart pub and restaurant. Plus the very very small give away starter is bit of a waste of time.

My wife and I stayed there for our wedding anniversary. The food, service etc was excellent. We had room 5 which, as my wife pointed out, was the smallest room! It was clean, adequate but shall I say cosy. There is not much to see in Wingham itself, but you are very close to Canterbury & Sandwich.

Decent hotel. Facilities in room a bit lacking. Breakfast was nicely cooked but a bit lacking in variety. Bad and restaurant area nice. Restaurant clearly popular.

The Dog was fabulous, the staff were all very friendly. Needed a drink as soon as I arrived so had a lovely glass of bubbles sitting by the fire, very civilized! The bedroom had such a sumptuous bed and very tasteful decor as had the whole pub. I would definitely return as long as the price stayed similar. Didn't eat there as they had a tasting menu but the local Indian was recommended which was fab.

Excellent welcome, very helpful staff who booked our taxi for the evening. I was impressed by the decor. Our room was very small (room 5) but had one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in, the most important factor as we were out all evening. The only drawback was the coldness of the bathroom which would benefit from a heated towel rail. I was disappointed by the slow service at breakfast - it took half an hour to come. Nevertheless the cooked breakfast was very good when it finally arrived. Overall, I would recommend The Dog to others.
