A good stay here. They have a nice lounge with many chairs/tables. 3 toilet and 3 shower rooms on each dormitory floor. The beds are very comfortable, tho they can be a little dusty because the bed frame decor is made from pipes and that can be a hassle to clean....i think. I look forward to staying here again :)

It is very neat, tidy, cozy and modern. I also had one of the best how showers I’ve enjoyed when traveling to Japan. Incredible guest house, incredible location for an incredible price.

You get your money worth at this guest house. Even though it was really cheap it was clean and the facilities were in good conditions.

The location is the best. It's really close to Genchomaeh station.
However, the room is not insulated against noise. I could not sleep well because of some men's voices even the floor is only for women.
There was about 5~6 years old girl with her mom in the dormitory room. I woke up several times because of her screaming overnight.
There was a lot of dust on a iron bedstead and lamp

I have spent the past two months traveling around hostels in Japan, and this is one of the nicest Ive stayed in! The beds were comfortable and clean, and there is a curtain that you can pull over the bed for privacy. The showers were small but clean, as were the toilets. You can buy toiletries or rent a towel pretty cheaply from the front desk, and check out is extremely easy (just drop you key card into a box at the front desk).

The guest house is located not far away from the Kokurai Shopping street so its quite convenient. You need to pay 200Yen to leave the luggage with them temporarily even you have a booking with them. Would suggest that the guest house have some area for people to hang their clothes as many have just put their washed clothes all over the place in the dorm and this creates strong smell in the room. Theres no shower gel and shampoo like the normal Japanese hostel/guesthouse. The lift is not operating so if your bed is on the 5th floor it can be inconvenient for people to climb the stairs.

Hostel was around 3 minutes walk away from Prefectural Office station, which is itself a 7 story shopping mall! Facilities were good and bed was comfy.

This is my second review of this hostel, as I stayed twice, as mentioned in that review as well.
Umikaji is centrally located in Naha, near the monorail, near Kokusai Dori, and conveniently placed near a multitude of izakaya and other places to eat, drink, and purchase goods.
The staff at Umikaji have always been helpful, if not always chatty. But this is understandable since many of the guests tend to be Caucasian and may not speak Japanese (I was an exception but they may not have known). But they all work hard and are very accommodating.
One issue and question I had was with the lift they have, which supposedly was used to bring up luggage to the floors the guests would be staying on. This has never been used in the approximate month I stayed here. While a staff member always helped me carry my things up to the fifth floor, I want to know why the lift is not used.
Overall, this is a great place to stay with reasonable cost. I would recommend it to anyone.
