Great historic property with lots of character

Privacy and homey and adult vibes

My husband and I really enjoyed our 6 day vacation at The Fred. The property is undoubtedly beautiful with a cool boho rockstar vibe. It was really nice staying somewhere that was adults only. The food was yummy and amenities were very nice. The only issue we had was upon arrival being placed in a room decorated in The Grateful Dead theme. We were not comfortable with it and felt like the guests should have the option to choose that room or not from the beginning. We let the staff know and they were gracious to switch out our room. Other than that it was lovely, and we would definitely stay there again.

The Fred is a wonderful beachfront hotel! Our room was overlooking the beach. And the bar/restaurant and pool were all just right down the stairs. The staff was very nice. My only negative comment is the cleanliness. Although the room was clean, some aspects were missed. The beach and bathrooms by the pool were not completely cleaned each night. That being said, I would still recommend staying at The Fred!!

I liked that the property was quiet and we felt safe for the most part. There was an issue with an adjoining room, but it was fixed. There were some cleaning issues. The sheets were dingy and the bathroom needs more attention.

This is a lovely place to stay with great service, tasty drink and food menus, calm beautiful waters. There is a great pool and hot tub, and it's walkable to other great things in Fredericksted. Many other fun and beautiful things are within easy driving distance.

Maintaining property seems to not be a focus. Electrical Switch plate in bathroom missing, shower lever is stripped. Under the bed was a layer of dust. Housekeeping was sporadic. Deck tables were not wiped down daily, garbage not emptied. Make up removal dark towels no longer offered. Beach towels are cheap and not absorbent. Shower gel bottles did not pump. The Fred’s location is a 5 , it is beautiful. The help is a 4 but there is not enough help anymore. You get the impression that instead of replacing deck chair pillows- they remove the pillows. Pool floats were in need of replacing and that was done the day we left. Overall- the condition of The Fred is slipping and that is frustrating because it is a favorite yearly destination. New music was introduced- live Jazz band and that was wonderful. No idle and dancing weekly. Fred has begun to cut to much IMO. And that is a disappointment. The food continues to be good yet the silverware is terrible. Maintaining the little things are no longer a focus. Cleanliness, returning the decks to original furniture configuration is not done consistently. The staff- most friendly and helpful if asked.

Property and amenities were good. The issue we had was the staff and customer service was extremely poor. Service was slow or we were ignored at the bar. Plenty of staff working, but nobody checking on guests and their needs just standing around. Reported the TV not working the first day and never got it fixed through the entire stay. Woman working the front desk over the weekend evenings was rude and not happy to help in anyway. Staff was more concerned about serving the locals that were hanging out at the pool and bar area. Juveniles were also in the pool area for an adult only resort. Would have spent a lot more money for drinks and food. If service had been better because of the poor service, we had to look elsewhere for drinks and food.

Awsome place with just a little TLC would would be a 5 star across the board, great location, great Caribbean atmosphere! Love it ! Will be back

This is very small calm area, so if you’re looking to relax this is a great place to do so. There’s not much outside of the resort itself, however Delia made sure our stay was well worth it. She’s very hospitable.

Great property with an "ok" service. Housekeeping did not show up one day. At the next day, housekeeping did not clean the bathroom and did not leave clean towels.

Very good location, nice amenities, wonderful jacuzzi, great room. 2 comments: - check in starts at 3 pm which is very late when you have a flight arriving at 8 am - we do not recommend to have dinner (food was very basic)

Nice hotel with beautiful view, and all commodities. The only thing is the restaurant service need a lot of improvement and people skills.

Perfect for short vacation

The Fred is a 22 room boutique hotel located on the beach at the edge of a very rundown city harbor front. The restaurant has potential, but it disappointed us on our first evening. We were informed the restaurant was out of pasta and half the menu was pasta dishes. Chewy chicken made up our dinner. The next evening, we ventured downtown to find a better restaurant and a convenience store. We started our walk on a nice promenade along the water but the other side of the street and all side street sidewalks were cluttered with parked vehicles and tripping hazards. Among the derelict buildings there were two full-service restaurants to choose from, but they have irregular hours and were not a good option for a late dinner requiring a walk back in the dark. There are two adequate convenience stores downtown. There is a sandwich shop beside the hotel which became our "go to" place. The hotel music was too loud, thumping along with profane lyrics until the 9:00 pm closing. Also a pack of dogs were loose during the 1st night and were loudly and slowly killing some poor animal. Housekeeping was irregular. No towels for 24 hours and the cleaners seemed to play games with the "please clean" and "do not disturb" signs. However we left the sign, we would return to find it reversed and tips gone but the room unmade. Beach sand is nice but there are large, sharp boulders in the surf and wading is not safe. Staff is unkempt. Can't recommend The Fred.

This is a great boutique property. The manager Karen was awesome. Made sure you had everything you needed and was just like having a friend around. She would talk to the all the guests daily and was always close by. Great location on the quiet side of the island.

I grew up literally next door. This property was my playground back in the day.

Service is key when I stay at a property; however, some things just overshadow the service. As much as I want to give a great review because of the communication before and during the stay, I just can’t. For the price point the conditions of the property were not adequate. The older lady that oversaw the bar, had a negative attitude towards the staff that was visible to guest, a lot of the food options were not available for breakfast, lunch or dinner, the WiFi in the room was not reliable, there were tree roaches on the floor, the shower head was soiled, there was a placard in the bathroom that indicated if we wanted fresh towels to place them in the floor. We placed the towels in the floor and never received any fresh towels. We were given beach towels hours after our initial ask. The beach towel actually looked like a towel they mopped the floor with since it was stained with a rust color and black spots. The only thing that seemed cleaned or well maintained was the ocean, the sand in front of the beach chairs, shout out to the young man that racked the sand, our sweet waiter from St. Kitts with gorgeous faux locs, Delia, the pool + hot tub and the service provided by VI Exotic Watersports. Whoever has primary responsibility of this property, something has to be done. The staff is great, but it just seemed as if they aren’t valued. Also, to management, for the Holidays to happen every year, why were you not prepared?

People were very nice.

We didn't receive our welcome gifts and customer service varied depending on who was working. Our room never got replenished with towels even though we requested new towels twice. Paid for VIP private event only for everyone to receive the same benefits for free. Pool and hot tub were the best part of the trip. Overrated resort.

I enjoyed my stay at the Fred. I stayed for 7days / 6 nights. Its less than a 20 min drive from the airport. It is a boutique beachfront property. Intimate, great staff and conveniently located near the Fredericksted Pier (less than 5 min walk). The pool and hot tub are excellent. There is occasional live entertainment at the hotel ( DJs, Band, Fire Dancers) check website for schedule. The food at the restaurant is very good, although at times they were out of popular items on the menu. There are additional food items next door and at the pier. There is also a corner/grocery store to pick up small items like drinks, snacks, etc. You can walk the beach for almost a mile, leading towards the next beachfront property. Lots of shells. It is a rockier beach so water shoes are suggested. Water is beautiful and clear. I even saw sea turtles when walking the beach. Delia the front desk manager is amazing. Kind, courteous and responsive. I love the text feature which allows you to stay in contact and address any of yoyr needs like transportation, spa services, etc. Super cute boutique gift shop. Lots of options for clothing, jewelry etc. Danny is the best Bar Tender. Friendly, knowledgeable about the island and great service. The facility overall is nice. Rooms are as pictured. Bathroom very spacious. Sometimes an issue with water(yellow) due to pipes but that happens throughout the island at times. Overall I would recommend a stay at the Fred and will be back soon.

This was a vacation I dreamed about, except not long enough. Outstanding service and staff Room was super comfy. Issues with the TV/ DISH. but we didnt miss it

Second stay here is less than a year and can’t wait to get back for a third! Love the location, staff, room, food, basically everything! Karen and her staff are great!

The best hotel at St Croix, you won’t regret.

Spent my girlfriends birthday at the Fred. The hotel is nice and the staff was pleasant. The food is really good; we indulged in the jerk chicken & fries, the steak & eggs, the Thai chili wings were exceptional, the shrimp Caesar salad was very tasteful. The surrounding area has a lot of homeless people and abandoned buildings. My girlfriend didn’t feel safe walking around the neighborhood. All the shops are in walking distance and the people are very kind. The local restaurants food is great as well.

From the front desk and beyond, The Fred created a warm and inviting vacation atmosphere. It was such a pleasant stay. We look forward to returning in the future.

The host (we think it’s Crystal) was nice and was kind to answer our questions. The bartender girl was not nice at all and obviously did not want to serve us. We knew she acknowledged us because she looked at us quite a few times. It seems she was more interested in serving the locals than any of the guests staying there. It took some other staff members to tell her that we were waiting on her. The rest of the staff was okay but you are definitely not going to get a high level of service here. We ate the restaurant twice, first meals was over cooked and my husbands chicken was undercooked. Next meal, I found plastic in my baked Mac and cheese and my brisket was cold. My husbands meal was very hot as his pesto pasta was swimming in oil. The waiter did comp my meal but did not offer to bring me a new meal. The room was nice but could use a little love. The pool and hot tub was closed. The hotel did give us a proactive hotel credit because of the pool and hot tub closure when we arrived. The surrounding area was not to be desirable. In fact we did not feel very safe after we were woken up at 4am to some stranger knocking on our door. We believe it was a guest but we didn’t open the door to find out. The power went out on the second day for a few hours. Overall it was one thing after one thing after another we decided to leave early and stay in a hotel that has way better experience and much better customer service.
