Lovely old Inn in the heart of Hillsborough. They have complimentary coffee every morning and biscuits if you ask for them. Even though it was not listed as an ADA room a grab bar in the shower would help due to shower size. Sky lights are in 2nd floor annex rooms. While lovely, the sun rises early. The room had been beautifully renovated and was very clean. The Inn offers lunch and dinner. However there are lots of fun places to eat in town. It’s best to sit outside and enjoy a beverage.

The Colonial was great! Beautiful, peaceful, and with plenty of old southern charm. Great location to downtown Hillsborough. Stayed in a double queen room annex and it was very spacious. Beds were very comfortable and bathroom was very nice. Really liked the outdoor seating for relaxing. Only constructive criticism is they need towel rods on walls in addition to the hooks and it would be nice to have the small refrigerator sit on a table instead of on the floor. Will definitely stay there again when in the area!

The property was darling with a rich history. Our room was clean and the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. We will stay again next time we are in town.

Cozy stay at this beautiful place. Spacious and clean rooms. Bed was super comfortable. Nice common space seating, restaurant and tavern as part of the complex. Easy walking to shopping, restaurants and river walk. Service was exceptional and everyone was nice.

We have mixed feelings about our weekend at The Colonial Inn. We thought we'd enjoy our stay more than we did. Our room was well-appointed and comfortable. Comfortable bed, good amenities, and ample space. Drawback: the walls are paper thin, and one will hear the guest next door's activities. However, the room had a sound machine, which seemed to do the trick. I read their brunch was good, but the kitchen was closed and not serving brunch that day. Good luck finding anything open around the area before 11:00 AM if you're an early riser. We didn't get to enjoy any other areas around the property since there was a wedding, and pretty much everything else was reserved for that. While I understand the staff's attention and efforts were mostly focused on the wedding, I felt underwhelmed by our experience there. Meh...

Beautiful historical hotel with expansive wrap around balcony. The bathroom is updated and very upscale. The room maintained historical ambience while providing modern comfort. The bar is fantastic with many draft options and creative cocktail menu. We didn’t eat at the restaurant but it was full of locals. This is the place to stay.

I wish I could give this hotel a better rating, it has so much potential. I booked 2 king rooms, both in the historical section. One was large, bright and spacious, with a desk and refrigerator, the other was small, dark and cramped with one chair and no fridge. Most of the staff was exceptionally nice, but there was a couple that were not, especially one of the restaurant waiters that copped an attitude when we pointed out that he repeatedly forgot to bring my husband's drink at dinner, and literally slammed his beer bottle on to the table. We did not eat there again. There are many nice places to eat within walking distance, but not much for breakfast, unless you are into sugary pastries. There is an area downstairs where they serve coffee and cinnamon rolls (you have to ask for them), but the seating is limited and had obviously not been cleaned very well, with racks of silverware all over the one table. The hotel also advertises "free self parking". This is true, but it is on the street if you are lucky enough to find a spot, they do not have their own lot. They do have housekeeping service, but outside of changing the pillowcases I have no idea what they did. We had to replace our own towels. Overall it was a nice stay in a nice little town, a short drive to Chapel Hill and other areas. Not sure if I would stay again though.

Not what we expected, small property, new building housed modern rooms. Had no old southern charm. Rolls as breakfast, more of a hotel then a bed and breakfast.
