Check-in was achingly slow - a big queue with only one person on the desk. Room felt a bit old, like its best days were past it. Particularly irritating was being asked to pay £15 for gym access - a first as a hotel guest - only to encounter a gym that was poorly provisioned in respect of free weights (no barbells, some normal dumbbell weights missing). Food was good, and overall the staff were friendly and helpful. Although, adding to the air of eccentricity, there was an insistence of advance booking for breakfast - which, given that I was one of about three patrons sitting in a massive space, rather felt like overkill. All in all…mixed.

Lovely hotel, great location for Bristol. Staff were great, rooms lovely, free parking as it was a weekend. Spa was stunning but £15pp charge for 1 night is very steep.

I'll start by saying all staff we encountered were exceptional and a credit to the venue. However, we paid a lot of money for our stay and the room/sleep quality did not reflect the high price tag and high star rating. The room was a good size but our "double" was actually two singles put together so you could feel the annoying join/gap in between. Whilst earplugs were provided (nice touch!) it was still very loud, you could hear entire conversations and I was woken up in the morning by someone in the next room using the hairdryer! I am very light sensitive so the light that came in from the surrounding edges of the window disturbed my sleep. Didn't have time to use the spa facilities but they looked lovely. Restaurant had a lovely ambience in the evening and food was good quality but felt the service charge was unnecessary considering there was only two of us and we were hardly demanding! My husband found it strange that the hotel is owned by a brewery yet they had ran out of all the draught beers. Would return for a spa day or afternoon tea etc but not to spend a night as sleep quality was too poor.

Breakfast was great.

When I arrived we were notified that spa is not included as we booked through a third party even though we paid full price. If you want spa included, book directly on their website. Once we checked in we went to our room and found hairs in the bathtub and on the bed sheets. Apart from that everything else was ok.

Lovely hotel and very friendly staff. Nice touches in the room too with mugs and takeaway cups. Treat for the kids and even the dog had a bed waiting for him!

Lovely hotel, great location & service !

Great hotel, friendly staff upon arrival. The room was very big ,air con and a nespresso machine along with a normal kettle if you like the instant. There was also a fridge on your landing or near by where you can get cold water and milk. The bed was comfortable and great pillows. The furniture is a little dated but apart from that all great. Breakfast was really good although i did think £20.00 was a little steep. The spa and pool looked very good. But one thing i will say, if you book through a third party you have to pay £15.00 each for the use of the facilities agian i think quite expensive if you only use them once.

Arrived the reception staff could not do enough to help. Went to the spa it was clean and again excellent staff. Sat outside afterwards at beautiful location and the bar staff were amazing even when I explained that this trip had been delayed due to my wife being in hospital they came out and gave us a glass of wine and chocolates for free. We are booking again and cannot wait

Walls are paper thin disturbed sleep due to noise in corridor and room doors banging shut. In the evening the hotel relies on the night porter only to man reception and tend the bar, hence service is poor and not what I would expect of a 4 star rating.None of my requests were met prior to checking in. However hotel is clean and tidy.

Unacceptable to have to pay a surcharge of £15 for use of the gym/spa facilities. This is not clearly advertised on the Hotels.com listing and is deceptive. Generally very slow and poor service especially in terms of catering for residents with special dietary requirements. Overall the high prices are not justified as the food, drink and service are not up to standard. Property interiors, room comfort, gym and spa all good. Definitley wouldn’t rush back or recommend.

It was fine, like most hotels.

Overnight stay for family of four . Enjoyed the spa , rooms clean and spacious. Air conditioning welcome as temperature in corridors etc quite warm. Staff welcoming and helpful.We didn’t eat there and had room only so unable to comment on food.

Lovely hotel, friendly, helpful staff and nice spa facilities, although I find it dissapointing that you have to pay to use the pool on top of your room rate, normally it is all included. Thin walls, meaning you can hear everything in next rooms, including use of the toilet unfortunately.

I have stayed here on many occasions and normally everything is very good. We had a two night stay this time and had a meal in the restaurant on the Saturday night. We were just about kicked out of the restaurant seconds after finishing desert. No coffees offered just a “would you like you bill”!! Then told we could take our drinks in to the bar! If this would have been at 11.30 pm I would have understood but this was 10.15 pm!! It is not a cheap hotel and nor are the meals. Then in the bar at 10.35 they called last orders , when I asked the waitress for drinks for the table I just received a very weird look as if that was nothing to do with her yet it is table service only!! Not impressed with my stay this time at all!! Plus there is no real method of complaint to the hotel ( reception do not care!!). Probably my filth stay in the last two years but not impressed this time . Not sure I would go back!

Great hotel. Room was fantastic. Very disappointing that as a guest you need to pay to use the gym.

Very nice facility, nice restaurant and lounge

Overall it was good. Friendly staff.Beds was comfy and sheets was clean. Only down side was the room 334 we had was abit dusty. Blinds had a layer of dusts and inside the cups that was provided. A drawer had used pair of socks in them.

Really nice hotel, lovely pool, only reason not getting better score and review is due to lovely pool area spoilt this morning, by a gentleman smoking outside the pool area with door open.

We have stayed here a few times as a couple and with children. Great hotel all round. Will stay again.

Great hotel! Beautiful spa (free to hotel guests) and the pool lead out to great sun area with a beautiful pond and fountain in the background. Just a very nice area and nice grounds. The only reason I ding the service is coz I ordered lunch (sandwiches) and waited an hour. Now to be fair there a large wedding but even so……

Disappointing stay, room was like being transported back to 1980s… the room we were given wasn’t renovated / decorated like some of the other rooms we walked passed which looked quite modern. Bathroom had paint peeling off the ceiling and was in desperate need of refurbishment…. Bed was tiny and pretty uncomfortable too. Such a shame as the decor of the rest of the hotel was quite nice. What really needs addressing is not being upfront about the £15 charge per person to use the pool and jacuzzi… this should really be made clear rather that sending and email after booking has been made to make yiu aware of the charge. Very disappointing.

Nice spa

We have stayed here before. This time check in was thankfully very quick which has not always been the case. Why they cannot get consistent with this I don't know. Restaurant particularly good, partly because we sat outside on the terrace in the fine weather.

Hotel is very conveniently located and has plenty of parking. It took a while to check in and the receptionist didn't seem overly friendly. Room itself was very spacious, clean and well decorated. Quite noisy from the room overhead, doors slamming in the early hours, although it was Friday and Saturday night so maybe to be expected? Having a fresh milk dispenser on each floor was a nice touch. You now have to pay extra to use the spa and gym where as they were included on our previous stay so that was a disappointment.
