We love staying at the Shell Island Resort during our visits to UNCW. It’s the best feeling in the morning, walking into the living room area and looking out through those big beautiful windows and getting the best view of the ocean. Then moving to the balcony sipping your morning coffee and watching the waves roll in. The facility has everything you’ll need during your stay - the amenities are great! The staff is always helpful and caring. We love it here!

We love the Shell Island Resort! It's been our go-to destination for my birthday weekend the past few years. The oceanfront balconies all have beautiful views! The beach is walkable and wonderful. This year, I was thrilled that the hotel gave us a complimentary bottle of bubbly for my birthday! The staff is so friendly and thoughtful. Already looking forward to next year!

A bit rundown. Ice machines and hot tub not working. But the staff was very nice and helpful. Facilities were nice but generally not in the best shape.

I had a good time at the beach, but since we payed for a resort we were expecting a resort accommodation. Everything is old and outdated. We even had roaches in the bathroom of our room. Linens and towels had stains also. I asked for fresh ones and they were in the same conditions.

Amazing quick trip with the kids. The place is always very welcoming and the staff are super nice. We will always come back.

Beautiful beach views but Old worn out hotel. Dirty drapes, dirty windows, water in faucets, tub, shower smelled weird. Couldn’t get sliding door open and had to call front desk 3 times. TV was messed up and had to have a guy fix that as well. Restaurant was closed both the days we stayed there. The Only reason I might ever consider this hotel again in the future is if it was totally renovated with new Management.

The location was beautiful. The staff was very nice. The restaurant was slow but the food was good.

The hotel is showing were and tear and needs attention. The room was not very clean when we checked in. The towels and sheets are old and look stained and yellow. The bathroom is in bad condition. The shower is old and creaks when you get in. I thought the faucet was going to come out of the wall. Overall the condition is very worn and out of date.

Service wasn’t great. 2 people stayed for three nights. We had two towels and three washcloths. During the week it was super quiet, but because the bedrooms were on the side where the walkways are, people were super loud and rowdy on Friday night and early Saturday morning when we were trying to sleep. I did like the resort because all the rooms are ocean front and would stay again as long as it’s during the weekdays.

Great location for enjoying the beach. Facility is in good condition and the staff was friendly and responsive. The location is isolated, so a car is needed. Plenty to do in the area.

Great hotel!

I liked the location & the beach wasn't crowded. I liked being on the beach and the easy walk. the staff was friendly & easy to get supplies from the front desk. I was disappointed that in a 4 night stay, no housing keeping at all was offered, not even every other night which is the standard that other hotels are offering now. The bathroom floor got wet and we wiped up the water and it was gross how dirty the towels became. Also the rooms should have been quick house keeping meaning trash emptied, bed made, floor swept & basic supplies replenished like Toilet paper, towels, paper towels etc. For as almost $400 a night, the hotel needs to meet the industry standard that if a stay is more than 2 nights, basic house keeping every other day. Also we ate at the restaurant & food was horrible. Burger ordered at medium as hard & so over cooked it was dry. The shrimp where clearly sat out and old/hard. The restaurant is so poorly run that we did not go back and didn't order drinks or anything from it after our first experience. The property overall is nice and we would go back but would look for better prices considering the lack of housekeeping & poor quality food

Very dated for the price. Lacked good amenities. Not much in gift shop area. Great location at the end of the island.

Our second stay here. Pricey, but well appointed. Love the amenities (on site bar, breakfast and beach chair rentals).

The hotel room we stayed in was very run down and not clean. Furniture was broken, bathroom had rust stains in the sink ....clearly no one cleaned it. The kitchen was described as a full kitchen but was a kitchenette when we got there, door to the balcony did not close most of the time. The pool and hot tub was closed half of our stay.

Excellent location at the north end of the beach. The facilities basic at best. Upon check in provided overview sheet that daily housekeeping would not be provided for a room that cost over $400/night and beach chairs could be rented for a fee. The bed, mattress, linens were all sub standard. Moved locations after 2 nights.

Need complete reno, dirty, paint peeling. Would nit stay again or recommend.

Very overpriced. No housekeeping. Hot tub was not working. Had to go to front desk to get linens for pull-out couch and received stained pillows that smelled bad. Had to ask for more towels and soaps. In room fridge did not work. Resturant was mediocre at best and never saw tiki bar open while I was there; Wed-Sat.

Unit had not been updated in a while. Couch had stains on the cushions and there was some discoloration on the wall near the ceiling on the Eastern wall in the bedroom. Great location and friendly staff.

Nice location and room set up.

Pictures can be deceiving. Everything about this property is old and tired and it almost laughable that it bills itself as a resort. Let's start with the rooms. When we entered there was a heavy smell of chorine bleach and we had to leave open the entry door and the balcony door. The floor moldings were dirty and tired, the bathroom tub was worn and didn't drain, the toilet seat was loose, the mini-fridge freezer didn't work and dripped water into the frig compartment and I almost forgot that the entry door stuck and scaped the floor every time you entered and exited - think of loud nails scraping chalk board. Also be aware that the bedroom wall against the exterior hall walkway so at night its noisy and results in the loss of any sort of privacy. Also, they don't clean and make up the bed on a daily basis. A hold over from the COVID protocol. You have to pick any additional towels or bedding change up at the front desk. The dining room was also a joke. They would run out of things and not secure additional inventory. Jelly, bagels, grits - you can't make this stuff up. What I can say though is that the balcony views are amazing and the beach is huge, super nice, open and not crowded. It's ashamed that they don't invest in the infrastructure as the property it is on is spectacular and the views both the ocean and marsh breathtaking. We were so happy we had good weather so we didn't have to spend much time in the room.

We have stayed here now for a couple of years and always enjoyed our stay. Staff is friendly and property is clean. Condo was just painted and everything was great for our stay.

This property was not clean! My family and I recently stayed here and the bathroom was gross!! I had to clean it before we could use it. The mini kitchen area was disgusting. The space was small and I expected so much more. We left the property two days early. Staff was friendly though. This place needs an upgrade on their facility pronto!!
