Todo era perfecto

Una casa rurale che ti riporta indietro nel tempo ma con tutti i comfort di oggi. Proprietaria gentilissima che ci ha fatto fare il check-in anche tardi quando siamo arrivati e ci ha consigliato dove mangiare in zona. La struttura è davvero magica.

Perfect location in the old town

There was building works out the front which took away from the magic but look like they are soon to be completed. Terri kindly offered us a back room With no extra charge but we were well settled in any case

Wonderful place to stay in a great location. Kitchen area was very well stocked if you want to self-cater. Terri was extremely friendly and helpful!

Terry is a great host! She was very communicative and helping us to get reservations to winery and other atractions in the area. The house is very well equipt and comfortable. Everything you need for a pleasant family getaway. Hope to be back!

Location perfect and right in town, 5-minutes walk from public parking.

At the moment construction work at the back of the building and for us the ‘energy’ of the building didn’t feel right. Bit overdone with the fake flickering lights and sound of monk chanting on the speakers in hallway.

Beautifully converted with lots of great touches like the ‘candles’ and plainsong in the hall. Our room (the Bishop’s ‘receiving room’) was spacious with a very comfortable bed. Great to have tea/coffee making in the room and the shared kitchen with amazing views was fantastic. The owners were very welcoming and helpful and have clearly worked very hard to make a beautiful place to stay in an amazing location. I wish w could have stayed longer.

Super welcome and very accomodating hosts. The kids had a ball. The rooms were lovely and we enjoyed every minute.

The hosts, Terri and Robert, were fantastic. We asked for their advice on things to do and they set us up for a great 3 night stay with wineries and meals to die for. The newly renovated space has old world charm with all of the modern conveniences. I can’t imagine a better place to stay in Laguardia.

It is a beautiful, clean property and Terri went out of her way to make us feel like welcome guests. She was beyond helpful with tips on wineries, restaurants and tours and a delightful free spirit. The location within the old city walls of medieval Laguardia was also fantastic, with bakeries, restaurants and bars within crawling distance. The roof terrace is a wonderful bonus!

The location and view from the room were both a key aspect of our high review. The rooms were nicely updated and comfortable. The owner was warm and welcoming from start to finish.

everything about the property was great. we had the whole place to ourselves and we loved the privacy, the location, the rooms, the decor and the terrace. everything we needed was available and it was easy for us to explore LaGuardia and the rest of Rioja.

El Retiro del Obispo is absolutely stunning, very well equipped with a small kitchen next to the bedroom and another communal kitchen on the top floor with a terrace with incredible views. It is located in the beautiful old streets of Laguardia.

We loved Terri and Robert’s beautiful restoration of this medieval building. The attention to detail made the place feel like we had gone back in time.. with all the mod cons as well. The views from the rooftop terrace and our room #3 were incredible, and we loved how we could make fresh orange juice in the upstairs kitchen. Best place we’ve ever stayed in during all our travels.

What an excellent stay and experience we had at El Retiro del Obispo. The hosts Terri and Robert went out of their way to make sure we were welcomed and settled into the accommodation. They gave us fantastic recommendations for eating and drinking and touring the bodegas, making any bookings for us and even dropping us off. The accommodation was out of this world. Traditional, immaculate and in the heart of La Guardia. You can tell that a lot of thought and love has gone into the development of this property. Very luxurious and attention to the tiniest detail has been paid. Rustic detail with modern function. The bed in our apartment was incredibly comfortable and great for sleeping off the wine tasting and pinchitos. This was not just a stay it was an amazing Rioja experience. Will definitely return!

Terri was awesome, so helpful, and the room....so special. Really nice small town.

The cornerstone of this hotel was laid in 1164, apparently. History oozes from the walls! But the room was clean, with spectacular furnishings and a beautifully appointed bathroom. Very comfortable.

It wouldn't be good for the elderly given rooms were on upper floors. The communal kitchen on the top floor had a lovely view but there was no where to sit down (deck chairs on the outside patio had been neatly stacked due to rain.) So we had breakfast in our room, which was fine.

The entrance is just inside the gate of a beautiful medieval village where I was greeted by the owners. Walking in is like entering a castle. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated with details and had the most comfortable bed! Views from the roof terrace are stunning. Owners were very personable and offered to help with any needs during my stay, which was too short. I will definitely come back!
