The hotel is located in a lovely spot, right next to the Canal du Midi in Castelnaudary. It is conveniently located for pedestrian as well as bicycle access to this charming town. The room and facilities were well kept. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, which normally does not matter, because there are fans and easy to open windows. The hotel was the only place where we stayed that still had a bidet, which was charming. The breakfast was delicious and generous.

The owner/manager who checked us in, late on the evening we arrived, was very short with us. He had not read Booking emails I'd sent him telling him we'd be late. He initially was rather curt and ill-tempered, until he realized he'd made a mistake, and that we were actual guests with reservations. He did not apologize for his ill manners that evening, though, to his credit, he attempted to be extra friendly on the other occasions we interacted with him.

Breakfast was very good. Wonderful coffee. The location was lovely right on the canal with tranquil views. The room was very quiet and it was close to great restaurants and cafes. Unfortunately it was very hot and there was no air conditioning.

The room was fine, and there was safe storage for my bike. The welcome could have been a bit more...well... welcoming really, but no real complaints. Position was fine for the town centre bars etc.

The low cleanliness rating relates to the grounds and external state of the hotel, rather than the interior, which was fine. Overgrown trees, shrubs and weeds on the drive, badly signed, generally run-down and untidy. Breakfast offered was not taken, as it was overpriced.

Minimum service, overpriced but calm and quiet. Bed was good, hotel is clean. Not a place for tourist, but just enough if you are only looking for a bed to sleep.

Staff presence, a bar would be welcome.

Very run down, tiles in bathroom stained. Carpet on stairs is torn and a trip hazard. the door cards do not work very well and it was difficult to open the room door and the main door before 10pm was same system and worrying as not opening easily when hotel was dark and reception empty even though it was stated that door was open until 10pm. The man in reception was offhand and not welcoming.
