We have stayed a few times here and always has been great. Kevin was away but his mother looked after us and was so helpful. Would definatly recommend. Only tricky thing with the lounge being upstairs and having a toddler stopping him going downstairs as no stairgate/door. Will hopefully going back again soon. Thanks again

Wow!
We couldn't fault this cottage or the host!
The was our first family getaway since becoming a family of 4 and it was everything we needed and more.
Kev is very welcoming and gives you all the information you need, and the cottage is a home away from home.
We explored the Lakes and managed to chill out each evening in the hot tub, once the little ones were fast asleep. The cottage is safe and secure and our little ones loved the animals (and the puddles!)
Will absolutely be returning, without a doubt!

Stayed at Barney’s cottage as it was dog friendly, there is also Bella’s barn there, but that’s for those without four-legged friends . Kevin the host greeted us shortly after arrival to ensure we had everything we wanted. He was a lovely chap as was his mum who attended to the donkey, pony, horse and dogs. Lovely place to stay very friendly, hot tub was lovely after a days walking only downside is there was not a garden to let the dog out but quite easy just to walk her up the road. Would definitely stay again. Oh and we bought some of their chickens eggs which were yummy

We stayed at Barneys Cottage to celebrate our little boy’s first Christmas, and we really couldn’t have asked for more! The property is really easy to find, well equipped kitchen even for a Christmas dinner, and just generally fab. We have really had the most special time 🥰

Cottage was lovely and as described, nice and remote but with everything you could need. There is a bit of noise from the m6 when outside but barely noticeable and non existent once in the great hot tub!
Near to plenty of good walks, great stay and would highly recommend.

All was as expected, just like the photographs. We loved the friendly donkey and Shetland pony that were our neighbours. A good base, and not far to supermarkets in Kendal to stock up on route. I would recommend to friends. Not really anything negative. If I had to pick something, it would be that it is very close to the motorway, if this is something that would bother you. Obviously you get some noise, especially when it is wet. Also the bunk beds are in a very tight space, but you can see that this is the case from the photos. Overall a really good short break with everything you need provided, clean, comfy, warm and welcoming.

Our second time visiting Barney’s cottage and it was everything and more than we remember! The outdoor area has been updated since our last visit, the bigger hot tub area with extra lighting makes for a very relaxing evening after a full day of activities. Our dog loved reuniting with the donkey and we loved seeing him again too! Kev was great at communicating with us and made sure to greet us on arrival and departure. We look forward to future visits at Barney’s cottage soon :)

good host & lovely property although you look out onto m62 would have been better if not on top of motorway.

Absolutely fantastic off the grid break. Everything thought off, clean, easy access and perfect communication from Kev. Highly recommend to everyone. If looking for food The Three Greyhound’s at Gt Asby or The Royal Oak in Appleby are a short drive away and beautiful menu and food

3 night stay in great location
Brilliant location in peace and quiet but with great links in any direction. Wonderful open farmland walks in around 25 mins to the local pub. All amenities needed and nice welcome basket was much appreciated! Definitely recommend!

Trio of friends
Kev and his wife were great. Our prior accommodation was cancelled last minute, but we found Barney's cottage immediately kev replied to my numerous questions and we booked our stay. Lovely little cottage nice with everything we needed + processco and choc what a treat, and dog friendly so I bought my foster girl Meg along too. Kev went the extra mile letting me charge up my car on site and walking us in the darkness to the local pub with his wife and dogs in the rain and collecting us afterwards, what an absolute gem. We would defo return with friends or family and highly recommend. The hot tub was just what we needed after our long walk around Aira force waterfalls, lovely trip thanks Kev and family.

Kevs place is an outstanding little place my partner Darren and I stayed at barneys cottage for 3 nights. On arrival there was a lovely gesture by kev he had left us a bottle of wine and some chocolate. Barneys cottage was immaculately clean and tidy. Darren and I got engaged during our stay he proposed to me in the cross keys in tebay Our friend got intouch with kev during our visit and he went out of his way to purchase a bottle of champagne and a card on their behalf which was really nice of him. So we would have no hesitancy in staying there again or recommending barneys cottage to any of our family and friends. A superb job kev keep up the hard work your doing a fantastic job.

Amazing property, great tech!
We booked this as a few days away for my partner's birthday. The hot tub was ready to go on arrival which was fantastic. The house is very clean and modern, which is not too common.
Kev is very friendly and made sure we settled in ok, we will definitely be staying here again.

Kev made us feel very welcome and the property was fantastic lovely and clean and the welcome basket was a most unexpected but welcome gift. The location was quiet and beautiful and we definitely didn't want to go home. A thoroughly relaxing break away and we'll be looking to rebook as soon as commitments allow.

A wonderful cottage - the perfect gateway to the Lakes
Kev was a pleasure to deal with and 'Barney's Cottage' was spotlessly clean. This is a beautiful place to stay, with a really nice en suite bathroom, two huge smart TVs (one in the bedroom and one in the lounge) and of course the hot tub, which was a great way to relax. We didn't use the BBQ purely because we visited in December and it was cold outside, but that BBQ area outside is also a really nice touch. We stayed with our dog (a greyhound) and Kev was very welcoming to him, and this cottage is really good for a dog because of the enclosed, safe and secure garden out the back, meaning he could go outside safely without any traffic etc, nor any risk of him escaping!
Roundthwaite was extremely peaceful and we could see the stars on a clear night. It's very easy to get to from the M6.
It was also fun to see/hear the cute donkey in the adjacent field. We have a great stay and we'd love to come back sometime.

Cosy comfort with modern facilities
Loved this so much we couldn’t wait to book again for our next holiday.
Super clean and full of very comfortable furnishings, balanced well with technology.
Kevin was welcoming but gave us plenty of space for a relaxing family break.
Even with the rain we enjoyed dog walks locally, evening hot chocolate in the snug, hot tub time and it was a very short drive to the local pub for good food and pleasant surroundings (pub is also within walkable distance over a field and a thin bridge - bring your wellies if it is torrential rain though!)

Beautiful Cottage
Barney’s cottage is a really beautifully done little cottage, set in a peaceful rural area. It was easy to find and is a great gateway to the Lake District and surrounding areas. The cottage itself is decorated really nicely and is like home from home.. with the added bonus of a hot tub and peaceful surroundings! It has all the mod-cons and is well equipped for staying in and cooking.
The cottage is small .. but perfectly formed, I would say the bedroom just off the master room would accommodate families with young children better .. mine were 12 and 11 and found it a bit of a squeeze. It’s peaceful location does mean you have to drive to many places (the pub is a nice 20minute walk away .. but be prepared to cross a farmers field with sheep and go over a bridge .. so not for pushchairs and with no lighting take a torch for walking back if coming home late) however after been out all day exploring the area we were perfectly happy to stay in and relax on the most comfiest sofas! You could even have a BBQ in the enclosed, private garden area which is also covered .. we didn’t due to the time of year, but it’s all there for you!
This is a dog friendly cottage but you would never have known that pets have visited .. the cottage was well cleaned and smelt gorgeous on arrival.
The host, Kev was friendly and very accommodating, provided us with a travel cot (there is plenty of room in the master bedroom for one).
Definitely would recommend this cottage for a home from home experience for a small family.
Thank you
