Location only.
They put us in a motel connected to the inn that was so old and stuffy it’s like a nasty motel 6.

The location was fine and the hotel is attractive. We had a room on the first floor of the annex so it was quite convenient, but our cousin was in the main hotel and on the 2nd floor. There is not public elevator and if you need to use the elevator you need to wait for a staff member to take you in it. The lounge and dining room look lovely, and there is an outdoor space for dining weather-permitting. There is a small bar in the dining room as well.
Dinner was disappointing despite the good reviews the restaurant gets. The fish and chips was good but the pasta dish and other meal was dry and underwhelming. The wait staff was looking after the bar as well (it was a fairly quiet Tuesday evening) and her service was extremely slow throughout the meal so when one of our main courses was served cold, as it had obviously been waiting for the others to be ready, it took 10 minutes to get her attention to get it re-heated. The coffee served at the end of the meal tasted like it had been around since breakfast and was undrinkable. To her credit, the waitress didn't charge us for it, without our saying anything.
To contrast, our breakfast was perfect and served properly, promptly and with a smile. Good coffee, too!

Friendly & helpful front desk staff. I needed to have a warning light in my car checked, and the front desk printed me out a list of about 7 local service stations, with addresses & phone numbers.
It was a hike from the parking lot to the hotel entrance.
The ramp up to the front door was blocked due to construction, which was a real shame because my suitcase was very heavy and I didn’t appreciate having to haul it up the steps.
The a/c in the cafe wasn’t adequate.
I had a granola bowl w yogurt & fresh fruit for breakfast both days. The canteloupe was underripe and not fit to eat.
The service was a little slow, due I think to there being only one server.
There is an old-fashioned elevator that requires someone to operate it. An automatic elevator that guests could use without having to disturb the front desk would have been preferable.

Location, staff, and farmers market were nice.
The room was small for three adult bodies humans ( my son is 17) which made it crowded/difficult for us because we are not traveling with just overnight bags.
The room was not ready at check- in time which delayed our run plans and then pushed dinner back so late that few restaurants were open.
There is no elevator which is charming but challenging.
None of this is a deal killer but all together, it did not leave a good impression when I spent more than I normally would so my son had a good impression of the town as we were looking at schools.

location
room was damp and smelly, there was a lot of dirt and dust in the room. The beds were the most uncomfortable beds I've ever slept in.

The decor and style was so enjoyable. The room temperature was quite comfortable. The beds were very nice. Breakfast was delicious and the staff was very pleasant. I highly recommend staying in the old part of the inn!!
The water pressure was low, so showering was less than ideal, but this is not unexpected in a historic building like this. The fan in the bathroom didn't work properly, so our room became quite steamy after showers.

Accessibility
Not providing breakfast was my major complaint.

The inn is located in the middle of town so it's easy to access things around Middleburry. The check in was easy and the staff friendly. Our room was comfortable and clean.
The pull out couch could have been a little cleaner.

Location was perfect to walk into town and around Middlebury.

Cozy, historic inn. Easy walk into town and to the college campus.
Some of the furnishings and decor appear old and worn.
8.0 / 10.0
The historical aspect of the property. It was very well taken care of.
That the restaurant wasn't open for dinner every time. It was hard to find food around us.

Great location in the middle of town in an historic and well maintained hotel with an excellent restaurant.
the room was too warm and we were unable to sufficiently cool it down.

very nice place, very picturesque town right out of a Frank Capra movie..... food in restaurant was top notch.
there for business and WIFI was non existent.. funny how it showed 5 bars of connection but pages were going dead with no connection. barely received a cell signal. had to stand in right place..... this was a major inconvenience considering I had very important business to conduct online... and was ill prepared for my meeting because of lack of internet...............

Staff were friendly. The room and beds were comfortable, the Inn was charming, as well as the town itself. Dined at their restaurant, food was excellent. Make sure you reserve a table!
