A propos de ce cottagerental
Traditional Stone Built Fisherman's Cottage

We always try to find rentals with character that are slightly off the beaten track but still near to places we plan to visit - in this case the whisky distilleries of Speyside. The cottage is quiet, well equipped and sits just a half block off the bluff overlooking the port. It has easy access to the coast trails and an excellent fish and chips shop just a short walk away. I think you'd want your own transportation (car or bike) if you stay there.

We know the area well as we have family in the area but this was our first stay at the cottage. What a great place 😊 Everything you need for a relaxing stay, Morag has thought of everything! Less than a minute to the harbour , beautiful coastal walks from the door and sooo quiet in the cottage. Thank you, we’ll be back!

I didn’t want to leave. This is a gorgeous cottage in a peaceful setting and was a lovely change after being so busy in Edinburgh. Every possible kitchen utensil and piece of equipment was supplied. I appreciated the lovely shower gel, and the generous supply of laundry detergent. Shower has great pressure. There is a dryer but I didn’t use it. Hanging my clothes in the crack or the line around the bag did the job nicely. Comfortable bed with good linens, and I appreciated the bedside lamps. Be aware the bedrooms are upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs. Not a problem for me but good to know. Such a comfortable place to stay and I just wish I had booked it for longer.

McKenzie Cottage is a cosy home from home in the delightful village of Portnockie. It is well equipped and has all the amenities we required for our stay.
The utility area was a great space for muddy shoes, and wet coats to be stored and having an outside door directly into that space was ideal.
We had one minor issue with the keys but that was quickly resolved with a phone call to the property owner who answered our call straight away.
I would highly recommend this cottage and we will hopefully be back again.

Serene and peaceful
The cottage was all we needed and the area is spectacular! We took long walks, watched dolphins, and played near the water. Morag and Grace were so kind to us. We cooked and a lot, and the kitchen was well-stocked. Such fun. We have been traveling the country a while now, and these were by far the most comfortable beds and sofas so far. That was a huge bonus!

Lovely little get away
Very well equipped throughout. It was refreshing to crawl into bed (after a days hiking), to discover the beds were every bit as comfortable as home! The neighbours in front and behind were so nice too.

Cosy cottage by the beach!
Arrived to a well presented and charming cottage. It is very well kitted out with anything you might need for a break! Unfortunately the weather wasn't at its best but the home was a lovely place to chill out and relax in for a weekend away. I would highly recommend and I will definitely be back.

Mold problems
Mold problems in lounge & bathtub! Terrible smell from kitchen drain. Lots of dust bunnies! Not impressed not even a place to sit outside the cottage! I’ve stayed in several cottages in the area and always had a small welcome basket! But not this one! It could use a dishwasher for sanity reasons!

Modern on the inside, traditional on the outside. It's a beautifully quirky place to stay, would recommend!

Lovely cottage in a quaint wee village.
The cottage was lovely, cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. The village is well kept and quaint with the best fish and chips I have had in a long time. We just walked along the amazing coastline from Portknockie and explored local caves, beaches and harbours. Even teenagers enjoyed it (although reluctant with the walking). I would thoroughly recommended this place.

We had the most wonderful stay at McKenzie cottage. Fully equipped to a very high standard and everything you could ask from a holiday let. Modern bathroom with deep bath and excellent shower. Kitchen has everything you could ask for with a utility room with washer and dryer, and beds are really comfortable.
Excellent location for walks and especially golf, with more than half a dozen courses nearby, all with spectacular views. Plenty of shopping and sight seeing made this one of our best short breaks away yet. Many thanks to owners Morag and Richard.

We booked by email and phone calls directly with the owner, making a bespoke booking (Sat.-Fri.) instead of the usual week in high season. The owner provided location details and a key through the post (the key was posted through the letterbox on departure). The listing description was for the most part accurate, although we could not operate some of the appliances listed (CD player/radio) and in fact radio reception was only available through digital TV (up to 6 pm) as we had no computer with us. This was a minor inconvenience. The house was on the whole clean and tidy although some areas could benefit from more thorough cleaning (e.g. upstairs bedroom floors). We found the central heating a boon (cold snap in late April!) and easy to operate, although the heat distribution was uneven and we had to follow closely the instructions in the folder (i.e. leave downstairs doors open). The kitchen was well equipped for cookware, crockery, cutlery etc. and the units were relatively new (ditto in utility room), although there was no dishwasher. We found the electric kettle and microwave fiddly to use, however, though not a big problem. The bathroom although small had good ventilation via an extractor fan. A glass shelf which should have been above the washbasin was missing, and there was an awkward crack in the centre of the floor surface, but we could live with these deficiencies. Storage space upstairs was adequate although there wasn't much room for furniture and one could only stand upright in the middle of the room owing to the chalet style (this was mentioned in the listing description). As there was only a skylight in each bedroom (with a translucent blind), blackout could not be achieved and the arrival of morning meant bright daylight! (from around 6 am). Our stay was during a bin collection week but fortunately one of the neighbours took charge as we wouldn't have known where to leave the bins - in fact it was round the back of the house in a different street! Also, we weren't clear on recycling arrangements as these were poorly explained and of course differ widely across the country. But many of these are minor quibbles - all in all we rated this one of our better holiday lets: it was comfortable, well located and the owners had made an effort to facilitate their visitors stay as much as they could, for which they deserve praise. Although there were few places for eating out in the vicinity, I would nevertheless recommend this let to any of my friends.
