Great family house with covered patio and heated pool
The owners met my parents on arrival and showed them around the premises. Everything was as stated on the website, or even better. It clearly is an old/vieux house and therefore a bit dark, filled with trinkets and (how lovely!) hundreds of English/French books. Very spacious and super clean. Almost every bedroom having its own bathroom was a huge plus, as were the washing machine (children are messy) and literally piles of extra bath towels and bed linens in a walk-in closet. The kitchen has everything one may need, including dishwasher tablets, kitchen towels (a pet peeve of mine), enough pots and pans to cook for the village of Deviat. The garden is gorgeous, and the covered patio with a 20 person dining table brilliant. We had a long list of all the churches and wineries we'd visit, but we spent all our time on the terrace, sitting in those oddly comfortable office chairs, enjoying the children playing in the large yard. We booked this house because of the private pool and it was wonderful. Heated (against a small, agreed on fee), easy to get into/out of, clean, some pool toys, private. The owner, a British lady named Carol, always responded promptly to my questions, and my parents and sister had a blast chatting with her and her partner. Although they live in the neighbouring house, we had complete privacy. The photo was taken from the largest bedroom, facing the garden and pool. A small bit of the covered patio is visible.
I wish the gate around the pool was self-closing. We had a 2 year old with us, and since the pool cannot be seen from the terrace or house, we had to keep reminding the 5 older kids to close the gate behind them when they went swimming. Hardly a dislike, just one of our nice-to-haves: the village is quite isolated (which is part of the charm of course) and the nearest supermarket/bakery can only be reached by car. Sounds from tractors driving between the farms and TGV trains (Angoulême-Libourne) passing early in the morning bothered some of the lighter sleepers. I wouldn't let that deter me from booking this wonderful house though!

The spacious and comfortable house suited us very well for attending a wedding at a local chateau.
The property is very spacious and was clean. The location is so peaceful and relaxing. It was nice to have the table tennis and badminton set. The outdoor table and benches were particularly good for evening BBQs and al fresco lunches. It was great to have so many ensuite bathrooms. There were loads of towels and a good selection of toiletries in each bathroom. There was plenty of crockery and cutlery and the kitchen was well equipped. Carol and Erick were friendly and helpful, giving advice on good places to visit.
It was a shame that the pool was out of order, although we know that the owners were disappointed about this too and were trying to get it rectified. It would have been nice if there had been enough sun loungers in the garden for us all to use.
