Well-equipped House At Foot of Medieval Cité with Garage, Wifi & 2 Shower rooms

We really enjoyed our stay at this house it is
very well equipped and very close to la Cité.
Perfectly located for visiting and strolls by the river Aude.
(Plenty of games and good WiFi kept teenagers happy when indoors)

We liked the location but the property was very disappointing. The key holder met us at the property and communication was difficult as her English was very limited. To start she had difficulty opening the door, so much so that we only used the garage door, the smell as you entered was very damp and musty. We didn’t use downstairs shower room as the shower enclosure was very ‘mouldy’. The wooden duckboards looked very uninviting. The kitchen was well-equipped. The oven was not clean and the wooden breakfast bar was tacky. The bed linen and pillows look old and the fitted sheet bobbly. The mattresses were about 2 ins deep. The upstairs bathroom was in a poor decorative state but it did function. The garage was a bonus. We enjoyed Carcassonne and made the best of our holiday but, in all honesty, could not recommend this property. I was surprised that Vrbo were displaying it on their site.

Fantastic location for the Walled Medieval City.

Absolutely wonderful location, within very quick walking distance of La Cite. Owner communication was great, on site support was wonderful. Facilities were good. Lots of nice touches, like providing adapters for sockets! Kitchen facilities were of a very high standard. Don't forget to play Carcassonne!

Very convenient and comfortable
Property was clean and spacious - the garage was a great benefit. Very well positioned just outside the citadel walls, close to the porte d'Aude, with a good épicerie a handy short walk away. 15 minutes to the main town (which had a great market) and a further 5 minutes to the Canal du Midi. Lots of vineyards are in close proximity (by car), with loads of great cycle routes from the house.

Great location and it was so nice to have the garage.
We had a lovely time and enjoyed so many day trips options around Carcassonne

Great facilities in a wonderful location
The property is accurately described as presented in the HomeAway details. I find it difficult to judge size from photos and was pleasantly surprised. In my opinion, it is spacious, well equipped and fantastically well placed for easy access to the medieval Cite and the 'newer' 13th century Carcassonne town.
The owners have provided a very well thought-out and useful house book that answers most of a visitor's questions and I found the caretaker Chantel to be very pleasant and very helpful.
Over all I found the house to be light and airy, even the basement where there's loads of space to hang washing that dries well ~ (it had to be done, even on holiday) ~ note the suggestion in the house book re leaving the window open.
The kitchen/living area is a good size and 2 adults can easily move around the cooking area. The kitchen has everything one needs to self cater (beware the hidy drawer with the corkscrew) with a 4 ring hob, full sized cooker and dishwasher. There's a good sized fridge freezer in the kitchen and a spare fridge in the basement. All in all there's plenty of cutlery, crockery, glasses and pots and pans for 4 people and that, I find, makes life easier overall.
The living space has plenty of space for 4 with 2 sofas that I found very comfortable and a TV. There's also a great selection of games for PS3 and the wherewithall to play them.
My own delight was finding the Kate Mosse Languedoc trilogy books in the kitchen. I really enjoyed reading Citadel in the very place the action is set. A couple of very rainy holiday days, a comfy sofa ~ a great diversion.
The downstairs bathroom does have a low ceiling, (as noted in some of the reviews I read) but as we're not a tall family it suited us well.
The property has the added benefit of a lovely clean garage. We hired a Renault Captur and it was a good fit, it took away all the worry of finding somewhere to park, and leaving the hire car out in the street and possibly out of sight too.
There is so much to see in and around Carcassonne it was a real pleasure having a lovely place to stay while we enjoyed it.

Well provisioned, comfortable, and well located
This property enjoys a spectacular location just down the hill from the walls of the old city. It has an exceptionally well-provisioned kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms, and a living area that will accommodate 2-4 people comfortably. Be aware that the local property manager does not speak English, so, if you don’t speak French, there will be communication problems.

The apartment is lovely, Well equipped and very well positioned.
We loved the apartment. It was very homely and in a sweet part of the old city right under the Cite walls. An easy walk to the medieval ramparts above where there are lots of restaurants - and tourists!
About a ten minute walk takes you to a number of restaurants on Rue Trivalle and bars. It's a little way from the town centre (about a 25 minute walk and about a 30 minute walk to the Carcassonne station.
The hosts Anna and Ian are easily contactable and very helpful for everything. We really enjoyed staying there.

Great with just a couple problems!
Well equipped except needs regular coffee maker. Great location and garage for the car was great. Overall, house was damp; noticed mold on ceiling in entrance way.

A delightful property in a great location
The owners of this property have clearly thought carefully about what to provide their guests. Having previously stayed in static caravans, it was a joy to be somewhere so well-equipped and comfortable. We all enjoyed our stay very much. The children were particularly thrilled by the numerous lizards who inhabit the outer walls of the house on warm nights! Having free wi-fi was an added bonus. The location was perfect for visiting the mediaeval city and near to all the necessary shops and amenities. Above all, the information pack provided by Anna and Ian was brilliant, covering everything we possibly needed to know.

Garage was a Blessing!!
Fabulous location!
We were visiting during the Tour de France so the Garage was such a blessing. Parking in town would have been a nightmare! We arrived later than expected due to issues with our car rental. We called the caretaker to let him know well in advance but he was not happy about it. Thankfully the owner sorted it out for us and we had no issues getting our apartment when we arrived at 10:30 pm.
The apartment was well stocked with everything we needed. The ground level where the 2nd bathroom is located had musty smell so we didn’t use that floor during our stay. The upper level had plenty of windows and light. One bathroom was sufficient for our family of 4.
Overall, we had a lovely stay. Would definitely stay here again.

In the heart of the Occitanie region.
The house is located at the foot of the Carcassonne castle, in just a couple of minutes you are inside the city walls through the Porte de l'Aude, cannot find a mos central location. The house is well equipped, all your needs are covered with comfort. Ian and Anna are great and will answer any question promptly. Highly recommended.

Lovely traditional accommodation with a modern touch
We had a lovely weeks stay in this comfortable, welcoming apartment. Situated just below The Cité ramparts, it had everything we needed.

Perfectly positioned for a visit to Carcassonne
We spent a week in and around Carcassonne. The house is in a perfect position for walking up to the old town or over the bridge to the city centre, an area we had not visited before. The house is well equipped with everything we needed although, with so many eating places around, we didn't cook at all. But there are lots of little extras included if you do want to cook. One suggestion, if you are arriving by car. The road outside is very busy and parking, although free, is hard to get. The garage is great but we only just squeezed our hire car in so a smallish car is recommended.

Perfect Break
Great house. If you are wanting to stay near the old city you couldn’t get a better place to stay.

Well located and comfortable.
Great to have the extra room and bathroom. We ran out of hot water and the caretaker came right over immediately to flip the breaker back on, which solved it. Missed having a toaster, but we've been to Europe before and expected it. Everything was absolutely A1!

The house was the main reason we stayed an extra two days.
Loved it.

Four night stay
Stunning location. Able to walk up steps to La Cité. Comfortable and clean. Immediate response when reporting pipe leak. Fixed same day. Our Berlingo would not fit into garage - we knew beforehand. Parking tricky. U.K. Tv disappeared after first day. Blessing in disguise?

It does exactly what it says on the tin!
Often properties are misrepresented on these sites but, not in this case. This pretty little house IS at the foot of the medieval city and there is direct access only moments away that, depending on your fitness, will have you in that magical place in five minutes or so. The property is large with two generous bedrooms a large and comfortable seating area and all the comforts you could ask for in a holiday location. The centre of the modern Carcassone is also a short walk so this really is a central location. Yet, it is a peaceful spot and quiet at night. There's a grocery and a newsagent a few doors away and I came to feel like a local going down in the morning to collect a baguette and paper and practice my French. Be warned, though, you won't find many people who speak English but, when you make an effort to speak French, they are gracious, friendly and helpful. Go if you like a quiet holiday, history, architecture and an excellent climate. Stay in this house if you want a home-from-home. Thank you Anna and Ian!

Top stay in the shadows of the medieval city.
Even before we arrived, we felt this stay would not disappoint and it didn't. Ian's communication beforehand was excellent, his information helpful and, as it happened, his instructions for contacting Pierre to greet us were spot on. Pierre was promptly at the house upon us phoning him and even though our French was limited, we were able to adequately understand his descriptions and explanations. The house was easy to locate. Parking might have been tricky however having a usable off street garage was a real bonus. Another bonus was the two bicycles in the garage. The house was very well equipped and immaculately presented. The beds were comfortable, the showers were hot and the kitchen was complete. A little shop down the road was handy for staples like baguettes and milk but also stocked some fruit and vegetables and smallgoods. From the bedroom windows, it felt like we could reach out and touch the walls of the medieval city of Carcassonne. Taking both the guided and self-guided tours of this historical wonder was the right move. The new town across the river has its own attractions and is easily reachable on foot, a pleasant stroll. The market in Place Carnot on Saturday morning, presenting an extensive variety of first class produce at reasonable prices, was well worth the visit. We recommend this house without hesitation and would gladly return to see the many sights in and around Carcassonne that we had insufficient time to savour on this visit.

A wonderful property!
This house is a hidden gem at the the foot of the old city walls. The house was well equipped and more with everything that we required for our stay. We were very appreciative of the welcome gift too, such a great touch. Pierre and Chantel were extremely helpful and on hand if needed.
If like us, you like to explore and discover, there is so much to do by car and on foot within the city. The old city is a must visit and would recommend a guided tour as you can get a passport which allows you to get discounted tickets to several things, including the jousting tournament in the castle, the castle itself and St Hilaire (the home of the first sparkling wine) all of which we would highly recommend. If like us you wanted to know more of the local history of the Cathars, then go to Foix at the foot of the Pyrenees and not for the faint hearted, a hike up to Chateau de Lastours. The views from both were amazing.
We have fallen on love with this area and merely scratched the surface. We will be back and would highly recommend staying at this property, I know we would like to again.

Great
The location was excellent and the house was well-equipped. Communication with the owner was great, but with Pierre and Chantal on location was tricky with no English between them. But we managed!

Great place to stay to observe Carcassonne and around
It's really a great place. Just near a fortress and old city. A garage gives a possibility to use the car to visit Castles of Cathars around. Albi and Cahor is not far. Good enough space for four persons.
