Le personnel au top
L’humidité intenable de la chambre, sans fenêtre au rdc, les draps sentant le moisi et le haut des murs couverts de moisissures

Parties communes, chambre, personnel super top

Its oasis in middle of New Market. I like hospitality of staff and that its clean.
Ordered the wake up call to my room at day of departure but they never called me to wake me up.
10.0
The most beautiful hotel with the loveliest staff, in the best location - a magical start to our trip!

Ambience
Tiny flying insects in the room and leaky toilet seat in the bathroom.
10.0
cleanliness and how they’ve maintained a heritage property.
some rooms need a lot repairing and cleaning up.

The stay was very comfortable. As it is a heritage hotel, it added to the overall essence of Kolkata

Great location. Fading old world charm.

I really love this place in Kolkata !
The staff is super friendly and helpfull, the restaurant is great and the place is beautiful and relaxing.
The location is also great, a lot of things are walking distance.
The downstair room is a bit noisy.
6.0
Definitely heritage value and awesome location
Could do with a deep clean and freshen up though
This is not Raffles or the Grand, but neither is the price
Loved the terrace for breakfast
Needs a deep clean with products not just a swish

The property itself is lovely, and like everything else in the city is steeped in history. The staff at reception were also very friendly and helpful.
The place could do with some repairs, some walls show sign of water damage, the sheets were not the cleanest, and the rooms at the back of the property ( that was the only option when I booked although during my stay I didn't see too many other occupants in the other rooms not sure why they're not available to book) seemed to have been added as an after thought and are not in sync with the rest of the property.

Only the location is great and staffs were good and kind.
Management must maintain the property better. It is a heritage property. Management must look after this.
7.0
Loads of old would charm. Most of the staff were lovely
The service was terrible. We never waited less than an hour for a meal we ordered. We had to ask repeatedly for glasses, napkins etc. A waiter spilled soup on my husband.
The bathroom was ancient and the towels very grey with age.
7.0
location: easy access to all one needs. very centrally located. taxis easily available. easy access to metro.
Breakfast: same menu everyday for 5 days ! Boring ! Food also was not excellent. Need to block out crows swooping in to eat leftovers! Butter was cold. Food trays all wrapped up in plastic did not appeal. Staff members quarrelling amongst themselves, while one is trying to train another !!
Bathrooms: should be made better. too small and not fully equipped.
7.0
Lovely heritage hotel with lots of charm from photos and furniture.
Nice large room with good fan.
Perfect central location.
Nice staff, friendly and helpful.
Staff facilitated me a very early check after arriving early morning.
Bed was comfortable with good pillows.
Room 14 was right next to the kitchen so often very noisy.
No window in room gave it a claustrophobic feel .
Terrible disco music played in restaurant and cafe often too loud!
Terrible shower barely enough water pressure to rinse soap off!
Bathroom not really clean.
Towels a nasty shade of grey.
No shelves by sink to put anything on.
Disappointing Christmas menu in mid January..... Really??
Christmas decorations still up in mid Jan.
Noise from building work.
And the crow poo in the garden restaurant is very nasty, not cleaned up by staff and very off putting.
No alcohol served in restaurant, very disappointing.

Beautiful architecture, its legacy, the heritage, the staff especially.
Nothing to dislike

Beautiful inside. Full of history and charm.
Staff needs a standard checklist of everyday room service.
Very sweet and helpful, but some more professional training is required.

Breakfast was quite nice with a lot of options. It was a bit of a bizarre experience because when we were eating there were crows on the roofs overhead waiting for people to leave their tables to pounce. It wasn't really a negative as everyone seemed to find it a bit funny and wacky. It is a beautiful experience if you're not the 'hotel chain' type who expects consistency. Some interesting things will probably happen. The building itself and the atmosphere is a throwback and you'll probably want to spend a good bit of time in the lobby and restaurant areas. Even the things that went wrong I enjoyed. A thoroughly memorable hotel and that's what you want really.

On the positive note there are only two things: the personnel was ver kind and helpful, and the location of the hotel is excellent. Apart from that, I cannot find anything positive enough that justifies this price.
Unfortunately very expensive place (I paid around 5000 INR per night) for very few value. The room was super small, the aircon didn't work, the shower almost didnt have any water..
Bed was too small, not at all what it looked like on the photos. I had one of m worst nights while travelling because I constantly woke up since the bed was too small..
I have been living in India for a while, but for 5000 INR per night it should be more premium especially comparing it to the photos shown on booking... This room should not cost more than 2000 INR per night, maximum 3000. Therefore I was really disappointed about this place..

Staff, decoration and breakfast.
Nothing to highlight

Beautiful heritage property with lovely staff in an excellent, central location.
Parts of it were a bit tired - our bed was two ply wood bases linked together, there was also a ply wood draw in each of the bedside tables. For a property of this cost, I would expect better quality furniture.

This hotel is full of character. It could do with some TLC but the room was good and the staff were very helpful.
The hotel does not serve alcohol.

The experience was BAD. In the name of heritage, we were mad to stay in dust and ZERO maintenance rooms. While there, I was constantly sneezing and came back with a cold. If you value your health, I strongly advise you not to stay here. The property has a lot of personality and character, but that can not be the only reason it positions itself as comparable to a 5-star hotel in terms of its tariff. The shower was broken, and we had to get it fixed and oversee the repair ourselves because the management is that POOR. It felt like if all our experience was intentional by the Elgin management, then perhaps it is positioned for rich people from the global north who can experience "the poverty of India" and feel good about "making a donation." We are not living in that world. We are living in an evolving, growing world. We should strive to represent that and create unforgettable experiences that are positive instead of health hazards.

A little bit of old world charm in he center of Kolkata. Very friendly staff who were very keen to help if and when assistance was required. Rooms very large and had all facilities that one cud need.
Breakfast was very suitable and delivered with a smile.
For the cost of a few thousand rupees, it would be very easy for the owners to improve the hotel by buying some paint and repainting some of the walls/ceilings.
No major issues.
