This property and location far exceeded our imagination. It was the highlight of our travels that we will cherish forever. It was hard to leave its perfect charm. I could see renting this again but for a longer duration. We even welcomed the rain, to cozy with a cup of tea and good book next to the fire. Every detail was provided. Thank you .

Great cottage in a wonderful location

This is the second time we stayed at Porch House in a few years' time. We especially like the location and nearby things to do. We enjoyed dinner in the town and several walks through the countryside from right outside the door.
It was interesting this time around with the experience of the river flooding, which it hasn't done for over 10 years apparently. Our group is pretty easygoing so a little extra water didn't hinder the trip too much and the owner came by to evaluate things. Hope it's all ship shape again in no time!

On several occasions the temperature dipped to 0 degrees and we had NO heat. There were bugs and spiders on the window sills, towels were sour, televisions didn't work, and the dryer didn't work. No local property management to address issues

The Cottage was fine, the location was fine, being with friends was excellent. However, the whole weekend was spoilt by there being NO hot water for the whole weekend - very disappointing..

Cute small 15th century village - great location to visit other villages and Bath. Some low ceilings so my 6’5” son had trouble. Rooms are small but cozy. Lacks the convenience of modern lodging but makes up for in charm.

Our stay at the Porch House in Castle Combe was a delight. The cottage is charming and comfortable, with all the comforts of home. The village was charming and a welcome retreat following day travels to Bath, Avebury, Stonehenge and Oxford. It was like a dream! Highly recommended.

Charming ancient cottage at the heart of one of England’s prettiest villages.
The constant huddle of tourists outside taking pictures tells you the you’re in an iconic spot.
Lovely sunny hidden garden a surprise.
Would recommend, never stayed anywhere as pretty.

This Castle Combe house is a delight! Comfortable beds and lots of bathrooms! The kitchen has everything you need and the lounge is comfortable to rest in. There is a lovely backyard if you have a sunny day. There are beautiful walks around the town and in the area as well as a great pub. Afternoon tea at The Manor House was a wonderful experience. Shirley was easy to communicate with and overall a great experience.

The property was in a great location. It was clean and well kept with most things provided for. The garage was too tiny for our car but there was parking a short walk away. Shops, restaurants and grocery stores were a short drive away. We were unlucky to get some bad weather during our stay but had taken some games and books with us to pass the time by. We did forget our umbrellas but luckily most of us had waterproof jackets.

We live in the USA and were looking for an experience with that English countryside charm... and were delighted with our stay at Porch Cottage!!! Shirley made everything so easy... responding quickly to questions, providing lots of info about Castle Combe with suggestions on activities/outings in the area. Porch Cottage is beautiful.... so much attention to detail, lovely amenities, cozy and comfy.... with a beautiful, private garden. We enjoyed Castle Combe itself... taking lovely walks, meeting the locals and enjoying our meals at the pubs. This was one of our favorite stops on our visit to England :)

My daughter and I absolutely loved the Porch Cottage. Our stay was magical. It was so quiet and picturesque in the evenings when we had the village to ourselves. The cottage provided everything we needed and more. We sat by the fire in the evenings dreaming of a time hundreds of years ago. We would come back in a heartbeat.

The cottage is absolutely charming, as is the village. Super clean with well-stocked kitchen and beautiful garden.

Wonderful stay in this truly unique property. It's like stepping back in time but with every modern amenity. Beautifully furnished, spotless, and every detail thought of for guests. The picturesque location is perfect with the river right outside. A lovely private garden exists in the rear. Taverns in the village are a must. Dinner at Castle Inn was amazing. Would love to return!

A beautiful cottage in a picturesque location, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
One minor comment is that the dishwasher wasn't hugely effective and didn't clean the dishes very well. However, this did not impact our most enjoyable stay! The kitchen was well appointed with everything one would need to make light meals.
Shirley was super and sent a well thought-out and useful list of places to visit in the local area.
We hope to stay with you again!

This property in Castle Combe was perfect. The river runs right in front of your door. Nice parking garage available. Walk 100 yards to one of the best pubs in England (The White Hart). I am hopeful we will be able to be back again next year this time.

Beautiful cottage with everything that we needed for a few days of countryside adventuring with friends. Only downside was that it was so incredibly picturesque that we found ourselves being consistently photographed by instagrammers.

I was fortunate to spend the entire month of September 2022 at Porch House. Covid delayed my stay but Shirley made sure she kept it available for me until I was able.
From the moment I walked into the house I was overcome with a sense of peace and tranquility. There were a few obstacles I had to overcome such as getting groceries online and learning how to call out from my cell phone.
I did not rent a car because I wasn't comfortable trying to drive my first time with the differences from the US and the Roundabouts (rotaries) would have been dangerous for all drivers on the road with me.😂
Shirley was beyond helpful and she truly cared about my issues.
Between her emails to the neighbors to help me get groceries and knowledgeable taxi drivers I was on my way to a month of bliss.
The house was so charming and the beds were so comfortable. The village was as beautiful as it was depicted.
The restaurants and pubs served exceptional meals.
The people I met were so nice and being a solo traveler for most of the month was not intimidating. Dining alone never felt like I was alone. So many interesting conversations from people all over the globe.
Staying at Porch house was a much needed respite and it did not fail to be so.
Shirley is the best.
I will be back

Wonderful Way To End Our UK Trip
Shirley's property is amazing. You feel like you are stepping back over 600 years when entering (in a good way). The house is amazingly well kept, clean as clean can be, and just relaxing the moment you entry. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen very well equipped, and the setting is perfect. The rear garden is wonderful and a great place to relax with a book and drink. Our three teenagers loved the setting and two of them want to move to Castle Combe. The village itself is wonderful and the people are very welcoming (one point below). Despite being one of the most photographed places in the UK, the flow of traffic and day-trippers was very quiet. There are great food/drink choices in the village and the Manor House Hotel grounds are open to the public unless and event is on. Shirley is a wonderful host and is very cordial and quick to respond. We were supposed to originally have traveled in 2020 but COVID had other plans. She kept in communications with us the whole time as we rebooked. If you are traveling with a car, there are several good parking (free) options. The house comes with a small (as in compact to medium cars only) garage about 30 yards up the street in the converted stables for the Manor House. We had a 7-passenger auto, so we simply parked across the street from the lane on the main street into and out of Castle Combe. Overall, we could not have a better time and will likely book and extended stay the next time we travel to the UK. One word of caution in the village and has nothing to do with Shirley or the property - the proprietors of the White Hart Pub do not seem to be overly fond of tourists and others. But everyone else could not have been nicer and more pleasant during our 4 day stay.

Idyllic Castle Coombe
Wonderful stay at this picturesque cottage in the heart of Castle Coombe village. Simple key code for access. We were able to park in a lay-by just a little further down the road, and on the hill coming into the village. There is a small garage for a small car a short walk away. Comfortable beds, 3 bathrooms really helped as I have two teenage children. Very pretty cottage garden to enjoy the incredible weather we had. Lovely walks for the dogs from the door. We had a very good lunch at the Salutation Arms 5 minutes away as the pub in the village was fully booked. Only small thing to mention, the kitchen equipment could do with a little upgrade, especially sharp knives. We struggled cutting bread! Also, garden furniture - only a small table and 4 chairs to put up - just to mention as the house houses six people so two of us sat on the grass. Other than that, absolutely no complaints and we had a lovely stay. Thank you.

Idyllic English Cottage
This was one of our favourite stays through our tour of England. The village is stunning, and staying in such a cosy cottage just absolutely made our stay. The “secret” garden out back was so much more beautiful than I had imagined!
Host was a pleasure to deal with and even agreed to let us in early upon arrival. We ended up just having a few pints at the local pub instead, but it was much appreciated that she even was willing to allow it!
I can’t recommend staying here enough! Would 100% stay again!

Perfect Long Weekend in Castle Combe
We stayed here over a long weekend as a group of 6 adults. The cottage location is just picture-perfect, and we couldn't believe how spacious it was inside! Everything about the property was ideal for us - from 3 bathrooms which meant each couple had their own privacy, to the beautifully maintained garden, to the gorgeous wood-burning stove with wood and kindling supplied, and the well-stocked kitchen. There was nothing missing for us. The property was clean and really well-maintained. Our host Shirely gave us all the info we needed ahead of time, including useful links to lovely nearby pubs. Would 100% return or recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in the area.

Long weekend away for an event
The communication was on the actual day of arrival in relation to the booking in process which was concerning. I would have expected the day before arrival more appropriate.
The heating needed to be on prior to stay as the property was cold, the hot water also required adjusting. Was rectified by a very pleasant gentleman who came and sorted the issues.
The kitchen could be better stocked and there were no sets of any glasses. I would expect 6 of everything as that was the booking.

Living on a film set
A very pretty property and location which is like being on a film set as the village is a tourist location which has been used on films like War Horse, Dr Dolittle, Stardust and others including a Bollywood hit, the cottage has a small but very nice garden at the rear, the interior is not large but sleeps 6 well apart from some bumped heads due to low doorways and parking away from the property. Crowds of tourists across the small river (Nothing wrong with that as we are tourist too) so you will be in many holiday snaps.
Location very good with Laycock and Bath very easy to get to with train connections in Chippenham.

Brilliant place
Beautiful spot. As you will see from all the visitors taking snaps of the houses! Low ceiling in the kitchen to watch out for. Property is clean and beautiful and plenty of pubs in area (Salutation arms highly recommended) and Bath and Lacock only a short ride away. Would highly recommend a stay at Shirley's house.

The best first Cotswolds experience
Shirley’s property is in quite a beautiful and picturesque location- as was evidence from the number of people standing outside taking photos through the day! We went on several countryside walks from here and were able to visit the local pub and restaurant just a short distance walking from the house.
The house itself was perfect for our stay. The kitchen was well stocked with items to make nightly dinners and we enjoyed fires in the fireplace whilst playing board games. The bed was very comfortable and the fluffy duvet was like a cloud.
Thanks for a fantastic stay, Shirley!

Amazing location! Lovely home, well stocked.

Amazing place - even better location
The house itself is extremely roomy, with plenty of space in all bedrooms. Everything needed was in place at the property and had 5 emails from the owner prior to landing taking us through local recommendations and details of how to get in and handover keys etc.
All in all, a lovely stay and 100% would recommend.

Beautiful property in a beautiful village and a beautiful location!
We had a great stay at Porch House. Such a gorgeous cottage and lovely back garden for sitting in. Lots of lovely walks from the house (a highlight for us was the walk to Ford and a meal at The White Hart). No shop in the village, but we had ice creams from the house up the road and a good meal at The Castle Inn. No real gripes but the showers aren't brilliant and kitchen not well equipped (no bread knife!). However these things didn't detract from our enjoyment of the time spent here and would definitely recommend

Stayed 3 nights Porch House, which has a fantastic position by the bridge over the Bybrook - very picturesque. The house has a really lovely garden, unfortunately the weather wasn't that kind to us, so didn't get to spend much time in it. Inside the house was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed for our stay (apart from the iron which the previous tenants had walked off with !). With regard to parking the garage is very nearby, but is quite narrow. I did manage to squeeze in my Jaguar XF, but only with the wing mirrors folded back. You can park outside Porch House whilst you unload, but be prepared to move if anyone else needs to get access to the other properties. There is also space for about 3 cars on the opposite side of the Bybrook, by the public toilets, but these are quite popular. There is also a large (free) carpark just outside the village. The information pack emailed to us on the day of arrival was a bit confusing, as it had contradictory information to the individual pieces of information sent to us (i.e. different WIFI code, instructions not to use the log burner), and I think it would have been nice to receive the information at least the day before we travelled. It is probably also worth knowing the mobile reception is very patchy in the village, so you may be unable to receive/send calls and texts.Like previous reviewers I did bang my head a few times coming out of the kitchen , and think it probably could do with some padding over it.Overall a very pleasant stay , in a lovely cottage in a lovely village.
