We spent the entire month of August at this beautiful property. The house is lovely unique and has all the necessary conveniences, views of the Duoro incredible, the hosts are really helpful. The place is pretty remote and the road in is a little treacherous, so don't plan to go out at night, but staying home is delightful in this beautiful home.
10.0
The property is quite difficult to get to with a dirt road at the end of the journey (which was made at night giving it an extra difficulty rating).
However, the view is spectacular and made lounging by the large pool even more relaxing.
The owner speaks English but there was a slight language barrier which dis result in a misunderstanding that marred the stay slightly.
There are cafes, restaurants and supermarkets nearby that are very cheap so makes it worthwhile eating out regularly.

We had a wonderfull time in Francisco`s and Teresa`s house. Both are very nice hosts, reserved but helpful in exploring the area around the Douro. Everything was clean as was the beautiful pool located in a beautiful orange and citrus garden. We thank them both and wish them all the best for the future.

Very charming house with real character and full of history. Absolutely breathtaking views from every single bedroom. Very nice hosts.
Embedded in the stunning Douro valley.
A trip to remember!

Quinta do Loureiro is truly spectacular! The home, the property, the views! We originally booked for 3 nights but stayed one more (so happy it was available) and I still couldn't bear to leave.
Francisco and Teresa are such gracious and welcoming hosts, a beautiful couple, warm and friendly, going above and beyond to make us feel welcome, ensuring that we were well taken care of and that our stay was perfect.
My husband and I loved every second and will cherish the memories for a lifetime. Even getting lost (we always do) was an adventure and it was truly difficult to keep my eyes on the road as every turn was a feast for the eyes.
We began each morning with the most delicious fresh squeezed orange juice, supplied by Francisco and Teresa form the many orange trees on their property, sipping our way into the day, as we embraced the views and beauty around us. In the evenings, after the peaceful sunsets, we enjoyed dinner by the fireplace and watching the lights come on around the stunning valley. We forced ourselves out a couple of the days to visit wineries and stayed in one to enjoy the gorgeous pool, homemade lemonade, grilling lunch and a great walk around the property.
Quinta do Loureiro is breath taking.
Francsico and Teresa are the epitome of hosts.
We will always carry the memories in our hearts.
Thank you Francisco and Teresa.

A beautiful family-owned property, with stunning views and grounds on the banks of the river Douro. I stayed with 4 family members and we had a very special 10 days. You need a car to navigate the area, and we often stocked up on goods in Marco de Canaveses. On Francisco's recommendation we travelled to Quinta do Pacheca, which was stunning. Boat trips need to be booked in advance. We enjoyed the beautiful pool and found everything clean and tidy. I hope we can return one day soon.

If there were a gold medal for Vrbo hosts Francisco and Teresa would be overwhelming favorites. They set a standard we have never experienced in a lifetime of travel. Not only did they help us plan our itinerary they went so far as to meet us at the train station several times to make sure we were heading in the right direction. Their graciousness and hospitality will remain with us forever.
And then the property itself. The restoration of a family property since 1680 was stunning. Magnificent views from every window, air so fresh you could sense it, and orchards that supplied us the best orange juice we've ever tasted. The list could go on and on.
Of course there was the awe inspiring beauty of the Douro valley. Twisting mountain roads provided photo opportunities at every turn. Day excursions to Porto and Pinhao were also great but the real treat was returning to Quinto do Loureiro each day.
If Portugal is on your travel plans hopefully you can refuel at Quinto do Loureiro. It is paradise on earth.
Thank you Francisco and Teresa.

The hosts for this property, Francisco and his wife, were very responsive and accommodating during our visit. The house was originally built in 1680 and Francisco has done basic renovation. The grounds themselves and the scenic views are something special. It is a large property with orange, lemon and olive trees, as well as beautiful flowering plants. We had problems locating the property and cannot thank Francisco enough for his patience in helping us find our way.
The age of this house and the difficulty in providing modern heat presents a challenge when weather is cool. We recommended to Franciso that he consider upgrading the heat system when possible. He was gracious in providing firewood for the wonderful fireplace and brought some auxiliary heaters for us to put in the bedroom and bath.

We may have had terrible weather, but we still loved our time at Quinta Do Loureiro. Our children adored picking oranges and making fresh-squeezed orange juice, and Francisco was a wonderful host and kept us well supplied with firewood for our stormy stay. The grounds and views were absolutely gorgeous rain or shine. This place really is something special.

We stayed 3 nights and were looking for a place that was a bit off the 'beaten path' of most tourist locations. The Hosts were a delight and we totally loved all the oranges they delivered. The house itself is a centuries old stone home with modern touches. Outside spaces are lovely. It rained so we couldn't take advantage of them as we would have liked. Beds comfortable. Kitchen well appointed and Livingroom comfortable with a lovely fireplace. Will return

We were visiting the area for a wedding. Francesco was a wonderful host. The house dates from 1680 and is full of character. The views are amazing. Francesco took a lot of time to welcome us and had thought of every comfort, He gave us great advice about the local area. Thank you!

Francisco was a wonderful host. The Villa has much character and history with a magnificent view. Don’t miss walking around the property and just enjoy the serenity and beauty of the place. The pool is beautiful; also to be taken advantage of. Enjoy!

One of our favorite VRBOs we’ve ever enjoyed. Amazing house and pictures don’t do it justice. It is not the easiest drive to get to the house but well worth it and Francisco met us quickly at the Palo Train station to meet us promptly. Thanks!

This beautiful estate in the Duoro Valley is everything you’d want and more. Our host Francisco gave us amazing recommendations, drivers and wonderful hospitality. This is a very special place and we feel very lucky to have stayed!

This place had the best views I have ever experienced. From all bedrooms, lounge, patio, and swimming pool you have stunning views across the valley and of the river. The house is large, good size rooms. V large pool to relax by and enjoy the vista. We were here with my kids and mostly visited the local area in the mornings and lounged by/in the pool in the afternoons. The host was great with suggestions for trips. Kids loved going around picking lemons and figs. Overall this was a stay to remember and an astoundingly great property.

Beautiful property with awesome Douro Valley views. The lack of a major road nearby means the property is challenging to get to, but is not troubled by traffic and hence the only noise comes from the river (!) and the regular trains trundling up and down the valley. We made use of these from nearby Mosteiro which has a full service. At night there is almost silence. Lovely pool and eating areas. Amazing cellar rooms that have museum type information on the Douro (and a table tennis table). Excellent supermarket in nearby Cinfaes. We loved everything about this place.

Francisco’s Quinta was so wonderful! The views, the pool, the rooms, the property! Everything was first rate. Francisco was the perfect host.

This place is wonderful, highly recommended, especially for large families. The view over the Douro is magnificent, probably the best of any place we've stayed around the world. One can just sit there for hours looking out the windows (all the bedrooms look out onto the river valley), or while eating at the table outside--or even from the pool! The inside has a nice mix of rusticity and modernity, comfortable but definitely in character with the Douro Valley region. It is an easy drive to the train station for convenient trips to Porto, which always working well (much better than driving in--don't even think of that!). The glories of the Douro Valley begin mostly from this area and go east on roads that wind quite a bit--don't expect fast travel through this valley. Lots of vineyards all over the place to visit, taste, tour, etc. And lovely Porto is close enough for easy day-trips. Our host Francisco was great, very attentive but not intrusive in the least. He certainly knows the history of the house, it being his family's (lots of great old family portraits around). Overall an unforgettable experience and highly recommended.

We had a very enjoyable stay and would be happy to return. The property is breathtaking and the children had a wonderful time picking oranges for fresh juice in the morning. Highly recommend to others.

Views are stunning, home is comfortable and has everything a family would need, and the history of property is evident everywhere and adds to the enjoyment of the stay. The swimming pool was great fun. The host was extremely accommodating and attentive to every need. We used the transportation arranged by the host - the driver felt like part of the family. Our family of 8 (which included twin boys age 22 months) loved our stay and all adults highly recommend the property.

We all enjoyed our stay at this beautiful old farmhouse - the views of the river Douro were fantastic to wake up to every day and the ample pool perfect to cool down in
The owner is very helpful and friendly, Francisco can help arrange airport and local transport options and I highly recommend this option over driving yourself!
This location is perfect for those looking to relax at the property, and whilst transport can be arranged there is not much in the way of restaurants that are in easy walking distance - stock up at the supermarket and enjoy al fresco meals!
A very relaxing stay

A slice of heaven in the Douro Valley
Quinta do Loureiro in the Douro Valley in Portugal is a slice of heaven. The period home comfortably sleeps 7-8 and the views from every bedroom and the living room are beyond amazing. However as the picture shows we so enjoyed our family meals under the awning overlooking the Douro.
Francisco’s above and beyond hospitality is simply the icing on what is a fabulous cake. We will be back.

5 Stars isn’t enough to describe how beautiful it is!
House is absolutely stunning in a wonderful location. Truly allows you to get away from it all but yet keep modern conveniences. Francisco is truly a dear host who will go out of his way to insure your trip to Portugal is the best. Cannot recommend this place enough. We are looking for a return trip next summer!

Awesome outlook, Francisco was very easy to work with. We had a great time. Be warned the roads are very windy and steep, hair raising in places.

Magical stay at Quinta Do Loureiro
Just spent 7 days at Quinta Do Loureiro. Absolutely fantastic holiday. The house has everything that you could need on a self catering basis. It is situated on the side of a hill overlooking the Douro. Waking up to the view down to the river, which is the same for all 4 bedrooms, is the nearest I think I’ll get to a religious experience.
The house is also 5 minutes drive from Mosteiro station . This gives easy access to Porto and various towns up the Douro valley.
Francisco is a charming, friendly and helpful host.
Our whole experience was positive and I would thoroughly recommend this house for someone who wants a quiet, relaxing holiday

Quinta do Loureiro - the perfect place to unwind and relax
This was our third stay at Quinta do Loureiro and once again we had the most fantastic holiday. Francisco is the perfect host, so friendly and helpful. The house is situated in an idyllic setting, it is so peaceful and a wonderful place to relax. The views are stunning, the pool is fantastic, especially this time with the new permanent shady pergola for some of the beach loungers. We just enjoyed waking up to the tranquillity of the surroundings, watching the boats going up and down the river as we ate our breakfast, and watching the sun go down from the dining table on the terrace. Everything is provided in terms of linen and kitchen equipment, you could not ask for more.
We cannot wait to return.

Beautiful house with a beautiful view
We loved the Quinta do Loureiro ! The location is a challenge to find but no fear, Francisco will guide you there no matter the time of day. The view from the Quinta is breathtaking and the property is spectacular. The house is fully equipped with everything you need and is charming all around. It was too cold for us to use the pool but we did sit and enjoy some wine and the view of the Douro river. We highly recommend the Quinta do Loureiro,

Charming house. Great location and base for a winter's holiday in the Douro Valley.
We travelled to Portugal from Australia for a short, 2 week holiday. We had 5 nights in the Douro Valley at Quinto Do Loureiro.
Our holiday was over the New Year period. We found the winter weather in Portugal mild rather cold.
Gathering from the QDL guest books, most folks staying there did so when the weather was warmer and the days longer. For us, though, QDL provided a fine base for our touring (even venturing to Spain one day) and after a day's driving it offered us the warmth of a bright fire with a good stack of dry wood, where eating the fine food prepared by one of our group and drinking big local reds was the order of our evenings.
The highlight of our entire trip to Portugal was lunch at the DOC restaurant of chef Rui Paula sitting alongside the Douro River at nearby Regua. Fabulous.
QDL had everything that we needed. Its old age brought a charm and grace but this was coupled with all the mod cons. It was very clean and tidy. QDL fitted in well with our holiday plans that included nights in Lisbon and Porto.
I must say that the owner Francisco Neto was very pleasant to deal with - he is a hassle free person.

Fabulous views, peace and relaxation - a very special place.
We loved many aspects of staying at Quinta Do Loureiro. The house has a charming mixture of antique furniture, paintings, sketches and port wine memorabilia, all of which we found interesting to look at and gave it a lovely atmosphere and sense of history. The kitchen was well equipped, the big fridge freezer was great and made self catering easy.
The grounds with their citrus and olive trees were pleasant to wander through and we enjoyed the privacy of not being overlooked by other properties. We loved having so many different areas to sit and admire the views from. The pool and pool area were excellent, we appreciated the shade from the pergola but also the stunning views across the Douro Valley and it was a great place from which to admire the sunsets. We nicknamed the little area under the wisteria with two benches and table 'G&T terrace', and it was a great place for a morning cuppa whilst watching the sunrise or a late afternoon aperitif. Most of all, we just loved watching the view over the valley as it looked so different throughout the day depending on what the light was doing. Early morning mist burning off the water, golden late afternoon sun and twinkling lights at night all gave an endless supply of things to look at and admire which we found deeply relaxing.
When we did tear ourselves away we made good use of the trains from Mosteiro (only a short drive away, the man in the ticket office was very helpful), visiting Porto for the day, a day in Tua and Pinhão for lunch, siteseeing and port tasting and then back to Pinhão for lunch and a river boat cruise. The train is well worth using as it follows the river bank and gives great views along the way. We used the hire car to visit Lamego, Amarente (particularly lovely to wander round) and Cinfaes.
Francisco was very welcoming, helpful and discrete. We knew we could ask him for help if we needed it but appreciated being left to our own devices for complete privacy, peace and quiet.
This is a very special place and one to which we hope to return.
Muito obrigada, Francisco!

This stop was more than we hoped for . Francisco made us very welcome and was helpful with our needs. The accommodations were great and the view was amazing. Mainy sites are a very short distance away but would have been happy spending all my time at the house , very quite and private. Wish we could have stayed longer !!!

Wow! This is an amazing place. Everything is as described but even better!
We had the most wonderful holiday here - it just could not be better! The stunning scenery, the beautiful house and Francisco's generous hospitality made our time here one we will treasure.
We enjoyed two weeks here with various friends and family joining us over this period to celebrate a 60th birthday and 32nd wedding anniversary. Most of our time was spent in and around the beautiful pool as the weather was so hot and the views are amazing! The house remained cool as we closed the shutters during the day. We ventured out on a few occasions to Amarante and Lamego, both worth a visit.
Francisco was discreet but readily available with advice regarding where to shop and places to eat and happliy made reservations for us. One of our favourite places was the Hotel Antigo down by the river. Their Sunday buffet was excellent and extremely good value.
On the occasion of my husband's 60th birthday Francisco put the pool lights on and we had a wonderful evening of entertainment under the stars; such a special time.
We enjoyed sitting in the different areas around the house gazing at the views, walking in the grounds and the 'boys' enjoyed playing table tennis.
The maids cleaned efficiently during our stay and the house was very clean. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathrooms were good with efficient showers.
This is the ideal place to relax and unwind whilst soaking up the sun and the amazing views. Francisco is charming and friendly and ensured that our holiday was the best it could be.
We thoroughly recommend this delightful home and its owner and hope to return again!

The Perfect Relaxing Location
This is a fabulous location, set high up in the hills. From different viewpoints around the property, and at different times of day and night the view changes. We loved lounging by the pool, listening to the bird song and also watching the sun go down, with all the lights twinkling along the valley.
As others have said, the owner's perfect hospitality made us feel so much at home in his home. The farmhouse is full of character, and also so well equipped with all mod-cons, how lovely to go home with clean laundry for a change! We loved the fresh oranges and figs, breakfast will not be the same again.
We visited some beautiful local towns, Amarante and Regua by car, taking a boat trip on the Douro at the latter, and then the train down to Pinhao, where the railway station has the most wonderful tiles. There we enjoyed a leisurely lunch at the waterside.
Our favourite place to eat was in the small town of Baioa, where we were shown the steak before it was cooked to perfection, served with salad and washed down with some amazing local vino tinto. We have also got used to a small white port with tonic as an aperitif before dinner. We could certainly get used to this life!
So, we would recommend this property wholeheartedly for complete relaxation, amazing views and hospitality. We sincerely hope that we can return again soon.

Surpassed expectations!
A delightful property, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Fantastic views over the beautiful river Douro. Wonderful pool! A good location for visiting the surrounding area by train or car. Scenic boat trips on the river also a must. Lunch at the nearby Hotel Porto Antigo recommended. Charming host - generous and helpful. Thank you Francisco for a truly memorable holiday! We hope to return.
