Captain’s Hideout is the Perfect Location to stay in Avon, NC!!!! Captain’s Hideout is located at a stunning spot on the Sound.
We enjoyed the beautiful wrap around deck which had plenty of seats. We used the outdoor grill several times. There was even extra propane if we needed it.
There is a nice office, if you’re working while vacationing.
The second level has a second beautiful master bedroom which leads out to a private observation deck which was perfect for our coffee in the morning. We also used it to watch the sun set over the water with a cocktail in the evening. The pictures we took were beautiful. We loved the incredible open/stand-alone shower.
The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinner after buying some local seafood. Everything was clean and well stocked!
The backyard is fenced in - perfect for our dogs. The outdoor shower has hot and cold water to rinse off after we hung out on the private beach. There are chairs on the beach and a hammock to relax.
The steps straight down to the water made it easy for launching my kayak. Our dogs were also able to easily get in and out of the water for a swim.
There is a fire pit and wood was also provided.
Thank you sooooo much Karen for your more than generous hospitality!!!! We loved meeting you and learning about the history of the home and location. We all had the time of Our lives visiting Avon, NC because of you! We will most definitely come and visit you again! Your NEW Friends- Michelle&Mike

We absolutely loved this property! The location on the water with our own private sound side beach was perfect and the privacy.....! Even though there were neighboring houses, the position of the house and mature vegetation gave the sense of seclusion. We weren't looking straight over into the neighbor's business and they weren't looking into ours . Karen had taken care of every amenity you could ask for... Well stocked! The home is gorgeous!We were a little disappointed that a storm had destroyed the dock but the owner has scheduled for it to be rebuilt this Fall. The water in the sound is shallow enough to wade fish if you go prepared. I could go on and on. Karen was a pleasure to converse with, always answering promptly and sharing the history and evolution of the home. Can't wait for our next trip!

We had a party of four. Both bedrooms featured luxurious mattresses and sliding doors to the decks with breath-taking views of the sound and oh my gosh, the sunset, the pictures that I got are spectacular. And the memories we will have for a lifetime.The sound is gorgeous and all the water.Sports are so fun.Our younger couple had it great time riding around on the beach.Cruisers and the pool was awesome.
The beach access is just a short Walk or ride on one of the beach cruisers or drive , but it's only like one mile away It took us like two minutes to get there in the car. And I didn't even know. I was a bird watcher but the binoculars downstairs and upstairs with a beautiful way to view. I had a spectacular time watching birds and now I have a new hobby. The master bedroom upstairs was magnificent.It was adjacent to a big huge master bathroom with a huge bathtub and a shower with a tall shower head and and a shorter one my husband really really loved the shower The host Karen is the best host.I've ever had She is there For anything that you may need her for. She even gives tips on local things to do like the farmer.Market she told us about and I got some amazing local art. I can't stress how nice this property is.Everything you need is inside.Everything is stocked and clean.I would definitely want to stay here again

The location was absolutely stunning! The house was perfect for us. There were a couple of things that needed fixing, but we still loved our entire vacation! Can't wait to return to Hatteras Island next summer.

Captains Hideout was everything we hoped it would be- quiet, great views and just perfect for the four of us. House was very comfortable and well supplied with the essentials. We would definitely go back there.

A winner, all around. Safe, cozy, welcoming house. The house had everything we needed, and if we needed anything else…the store is right down the road. The host was available and responsive at all times. We ate in most nights, had things to do in the house at all times. Dog friendly and the pups had a blast! Try low maintenance on clean up, beds comfortable, highly recommend…but don’t take our weekend next year!!! Haha

We enjoyed our stay at Captain’s Hideout! It’s a nice home with sound views from almost everywhere including the upstairs shower! There’s a lot of nice extra touches like bikes and SUP boards and nice seating areas on different decks! The neighborhood was quiet and I enjoyed riding the bike to explore! It was rainy so there were a lot of mosquitoes, so have spray! We didn’t let it stop us from having a great week!

In 30+ years coming to OBX, this was our very favorite house, especially since it was just the two of us (there are only two - really great - bedrooms. Well off the beaten track in Avon on the sound side. A wonderful house with amazing antiques, lots of plants and flowers, very comfortable furniture inside and out, wrap-around decks, and especially nice for the chef - a propane gas cook top. We cooked a lot of great seafood! Our host, Karen, could not have been nicer or friendlier. We loved it there.

My wife and I, along with our dog, stayed at this cute house on the sound over Memorial Day weekend. The house was nice and clean when we arrived. There was plenty of space on the wrap around decks to spread out and enjoy the beach air. Our favorite part was the private beach where we made fires and watched the sunset over the sound every night. The house is tucked back in the a neighborhood on the sound side, but it’s only a 5-10 minute bike ride to get to the Avon Pier and the shops along the main road.

House was very nice and couldn’t beat the location. Sound and private beach were just a small walk away. The beaches were close by and not too crowded. The views from the second floor of the sunset were beautiful. The owner was extremely responsive. We brought our two dogs and had a great time! Would highly recommend!!!

Karen has a WONDERFUL place that’s got to be one of the best locations in the area. It’s super quiet, very private feeling, the sunsets are AMAZING, the wrap around porch always has a shady spot to relax.
The house was wonderful! I don’t have any negative thing to say. We stayed a week and never wanted for anything. If we ever go back to the OBX we will definitely be looking to stay here again during our stay.

Karen is an amazing host that is excellent at communicating and making you feel super welcome. Captains Hideout is absolutely amazing, there is so much time and detail that has been put into this place to make it so magical and special. The pictures do not do it justice. It was the perfect location for a wonderful vacation. I hope we can make it back again one day.

Had a great, short vacation here. Neighborhood is extremely quiet/peaceful, it's a good setup for dogs, and you have a great spot for watersports right out back. I was able to get out and wing a couple of days. Depths were enough once you got the feel for the area and couldn't ask for much more as far as launch spot and having space to yourself. House is very comfortable and has everything you need. Little beach would be awesome for a fire if winds cooperate.

We spent a long weekend at Captain’s Hideaway with our pup. What a great house. Karen is a great communicator, the house is well stocked with everything that you would need. The decks off the second level are great for enjoying a view of the sound or stargazing at night. Our dog was very happy with the fenced in back yard and the tennis ball that was there for her to play with. I highly recommend the property.

This is stay #2 at the Captain's! Our stay was just as lovely as the first - peace & quiet, serenity of the private beach, sitting by the fireplace, stargazing & seeing a few shooting stars - it cannot be beat. Enjoying the fire-it on the private beach and riding the beach cruisers, too. Sneaking suspicion we'll be back a third time in 2024. The Captain's is quickly becoming our home away from home. Thanks, Karen, for sharing your property with us.

I love Captain's! It's an amazing home on an amazing island with the best Host! I've said it before, and I'll say it again Karen's is like my home away from home. It's the perfect home with two great bedrooms with the comfiest King size beds that both have nice large bathrooms attached. Every possible item you might need or want in the kitchen and throughout the house and even more amenities for outdoor pleasure such as bikes, paddle boards, etc. The private white sand beach....should I say more?! FABULOUS!! I never stay anywhere else now!

This is a quaint modern 2 bedroom house with a full bath per bedroom, plus a powder room. It has everything you could need (except food). The owner has thought of everything from beach towels to bicycles to bug spray! It was impeccably clean and best of all pet-friendly. It house it's own private beach (with chairs and fire-pit) right on the sound! It's at the end of a dead-end road-sooo private. Decks on both levels and a gorgeous sunset every night! The owner answers any texts promptly if you have any need or question. A fenced in yard for you pup as well.

Karen was helpful, caring, knowledgeable, and supportive during a tropical storm. Her guidance helped us to make the decision to stay which worked out very well. She kept in touch with us and directed our movements when necessary. The house is beautiful, warm, and comfortable. We were in want for nothing.

We could not have found a more perfect home for our family vacation. The owner Karen makes sure everything is perfect as if she was creating the place for her own perfect vacation! The house is beautiful and beautifully decorated! It's clean and cozy and all of the furniture is comfortable. The couch has electric recliners which helped me due to my MS. The beds and pillows are sooo comfortable. The kitchen and bathrooms are beautiful with a garden tub upstairs! You can see the water out a window in the shower! The neighbors are quiet. The fenced in area in the backyard is perfect for pets, yet the house smells like none have ever been there. You have your own beach out back by the docks, the sunset is more amazing from the deck out back and the dock than the sunrise on the beach (we checked out both). We fished almost every evening from the dock and loved it. We loved it so much we only went to the beach 3 days out of 7, and I love the beach (It was uncrowded and amazing itself). Anyways, Karen's home is perfect! I can't say enough good things about it. Thank you Karen! We'll be back next year!❤

This was our second time staying at this property as a family (32, 64, 66yo) and we loved it. The owner is kind, professional and communicative. The home is beautiful and well-appointed. Appliances/amenities were all functional and made for a very comfortable stay. We especially enjoyed using the beach firepit and dock for the (rented) kayaks. Recent construction next door was unexpected and persistently noisy, but not within the owners control. Consequently we spent more time at the ocean beach this year to avoid the noise, but sunsets from the dock or decks were still quiet/peaceful. Overall, we recommend the property to others.

Property was so unique with the private beach and the close proximity to the ocean. We often drove down to the public access where houses ended and walked on the shore at 5 to 7am without seeing a single or person. We enjoyed the fish markets and cooking in more than eating out. It was everything we were looking for. Plan to come again.

We enjoyed the "homey" feel and all the wonderful accommodations! Incredible soundfront view and access and the most amazing sunsets you will find! The paddleboards and bikes were very useful and in great condition. Thanks also Karen for being pet friendly so we didn't have to leave them at home!

We’ve been multiple times since selling our beach house in 2021. It’s delightful to stay on the Sound vs Beach because the sunsets are amazing. The private beach is wonderful! Love the wrap around porches, views, ..comfy beds, well equipped kitchen and many items to enjoy such as bikes, boards, - it’s a great home! ❤️

It was beautiful and peaceful. The owner had truly put alot into the house to make it enjoyable. She allowed our dogs who had a blast. Only negative was the construction on house beside it which could be loud and early but even that wasnt bad.

The house was great! It's in a quite area on a dead end street. The pictures do not do it justice. We fished off the dock and caught several types of fish. Had a nice evening around the firepit watching the sun go down. Gorgeous
There were bikes to ride and we put about 20 or so miles on them. The house also has a couple paddle boards, but we never tried them. Would've definitely jumped in a kayak if one had been there! There are rentals close by though.
The beds were extremely comfortable so much so that my best friend looked to see the manufacturer so she could get one.
Would definitely stay again!!

Karen made everything over the top user friendly. She over communicated so I knew ahead of time exactly what to expect and she reached out to me a couple of times while I was there. All the details were taken care of. The view was perfect, the privacy was amazing. It was nice to sit in the yard and throw the frisbee with my dog. I would not hesitate to go back. Karen even made some great suggestions on where we should go to dinner. I can't say enough good things. I will be checking the calendar to see when I can come back.

The property was absolutely perfect!!! The house was very, very clean and so well equipped. Not only did Karen (the owner) provide essentials like TP, paper towels, laundry detergent... she goes above and beyond providing soap for dishes, coffee filters essential food basics like oil, salt... She's just very thoughtful.
We noticed that the hammock wasnt there, I asked her if it was stored and before you know it, she was there putting up a new one. Her response to any question or recommendation was immediate.
The location could not have been better, literally 10 beautifly tree lined steps to the beach with great access to the water. A fire pit (which she had firewood there for you) that got a lot of use from us.
The house aside from being very clean, it is thoughtfully decorated and so comfortable, even the outdoor was thoughtfully done, little nooks and crannies with comfy seating all the way around the wrap around porch.
If you're wanting a relaxing place with activities at your fingertips do not hesitate for second to rent this house.

Such a lovely stay at the Captain's Hideout! Stunning views from the wrap around porch and Captain's balcony. This is the place to enjoy sunsets and stargazing, with more than a few cozy spots to enjoy quiet time, in or out of the house. The house had all the amenities of home including a fireplace. We enjoyed living among the antiques that were sprinkled around the house, especially sleeping in the grand 4-poster bed, least of all, appreciating the craftsmanship of the two dressers, and the sideboard in the living room. You certainly feel connected to the grandeur of a bygone era. The fireplace was a godsend for the rainy days. We enjoyed all the amentities Captain's Hideout had to offer including use of the paddle boards! The private beach is amazing. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary place with us tourists. We hope to come back soon!

Another great visit in Avon at Captain’s Hideout! We spent my birthday there this trip with my niece & her hubby! Perfect quiet place for us to catch up after 3 long years of not being together (Covid). We enjoyed all the things that have brought us back to this house now a few times…layout of the house, wrap around porch, private beach, sunsets 🌅, close to our favorite friends and places to hang out, and more!! This was our first visit to the OBX. We were looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the area. This cabin and the area exceeded our expectations. Comfortable, quiet, well stocked kitchen supplies and full size appliances! We caught a variety of small fish off the dock/back of the property including red drum, flounder and a puffer fish. The night skies were beautiful and we enjoyed an amazing sunset! Avon was peaceful and friendly. It was a plus to have a grocery store nearby. We truly enjoyed our stay.

Very clean. Comfortable bed. Indoor and outdoor living space very cozy and comfortable. The deck was perfect for gathering with friends for morning coffee and evening cocktails. The location was convenient. We biked to beaches and nearby pubs. We were very pleased and really enjoyed our stay.
