This is such a nice little out of the way location, that is close to shopping as well. Kris was amazing with communication, even though I threw my phones in a waterfall. Highly recommend, we will stay again given the opportunity.

Nice private setting cabin but still close enough to the city for shopping and activities. The path that goes around portage lake is nice for walking and biking and leads right down to the community park and beach. Overall nice place to get away from it all.

We really enjoyed out stay at the cabin! Its location is close to Houghton and the rest of the Keweenaw! It's surrounded by woods that makes it feel so private, yet it's close to neighbors and to Chassell. The kitchen is small, but suited our needs! The cabin was cozy and comfortable! Kriss, the hostess, was fantastic! She was extremely accommodating! We loved our stay!

This cabin is in a great location for visiting Michigan Tech. You get to stay on a beautiful country property but are only 10 minutes from campus.

The cabin was very cute and cozy. We enjoyed using the fireplace and sleeping in the loft. While we had to be careful to catch the right driveway - their instructions for finding it were perfect. Everything we wanted to do was easily accessible and we still got to feel away from it all. Excellent stay and hope to return.

For our 42nd anniversary, we decided to explore the Keweenaw Peninsula (instead of just saying, "Yes, Michigan Tech is in Houghton.") We drove the west coast ribbon road to Copper Harbor, toured Quincy Mine and Foundry, spent more time than expected at the Seaman Museum of Minerals and Gems at Michigan Tech, and hiked Estevan Pines. Each night, we came home to a cozy cabin for dinner and Scrabble. An excellent week, all told.

We had a great experience at Black Bear Cabin - came up for Michigan Tech hockey camp and the drive was a short from the cabin ti the college. Only enhancement I can think of it to add a washer and dryer but other than that worked perfectly for our stay.

Twas like a visit into our past, with the comforts of the present. We had a relaxing and pleasant two weeks to enjoy the wonders of nature and the character of this property. The owners were very accommodating taking care of our every need. The convenience of being 5 minutes from the boat launch topped it all off. Great place!

We loved our stay here! It was a warm cozy cabin perfect for a fall getaway! The only thing that I was confused is seeing the listing and on Google Maps it looks like it is right on the lake, it is across the road. Otherwise the cabin was set up well, we had plenty of room, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

We loved staying at the Black Bear's cabin. The place has a wonderful feel, feels secluded and is in a great location. As avid bikers we loved having a trail next to us and amazing mountain bike trails only a few minutes away. Kriss is a wonderful host and the communication and checking was as simple and smooth as it gets. We would love to stay again.

Wonderful retreat, great location!
My wife and I took a delayed anniversary trip to try to catch the last of the autumn colors and spend some time hiking around the Keweenaw. Black Bear is in the perfect location if you’re planning to stay within the Keweenaw… longest drive was just over an hour. Cabin was well equipped, welcoming and the wood burning fireplace was a nightly highlight. Hosts were very communicative and even worked it out for us to be able to check in early on our day of arrival. Can’t wait to come back. Thanks for a great first trip to the beautiful UP.

Cozy and Convenient
We loved our stay at Black Bear Cabin! It had everything you could need and was very clean and comfortable. The location is excellent, too. It’s private, yet not too far from so many wonderful attractions/scenic areas. The rental process was smooth, with great communication throughout. We look forward to staying again when we are in the area.

The comfortable cabin
Chassell is a great base for exploring the Upper Peninsula (Copper Harbor Houghton, Bond Falls at Baraga, Eagle Harbor) and we were pleasantly surprised by how much there was to do nearby, too: great trails, berry-picking, beach, bike and kayak rentals. The cabin is nestled in the woods - private, comfortable and fully equipped. We had a wonderful week and look forward to returning someday.

Perfect Getaway
Black bear cabin was perfect for our UP trip. The upper peninsula is a beautiful place and staying at this cabin made it an amazing experience. I loved the privacy of the cabin. The inside is beautiful. The king size bed was so comfy, we slept great every night. Super close to Houghton and a Walmart only 10 minutes away. 10/10 experience, we would definitely come back!!! :)

Cozy cabin stay near Houghton
My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful week at Black Bear Cabin, which is close to the great natural sights of the Keweenaw and near the city of Houghton. Kriss and Ray were great hosts, very helpful and quick with communication. And the cabin itself was quaint, clean and well-appointed. There is some road noise from U.S. 41, but cabin itself is tucked in the woods and feels very private. A great home base for anything the Keweenaw has to offer.

Cabin in the woods.
We really enjoyed our week in the beautiful fall colors of the U.P. This cabin was a perfect fit for us as a couple. The loft bedroom would have been lovely, and we tried it one night, but with age comes the need for midnight bathroom trips and the ladder was a bit daunting with arthritic knees that need to loosen up before that kind of a challenge! I liked that it was near enough to civilization, yet when at the cabin, you cannot see any other houses.

Cozy Warmth with a Beautiful Fireplace
Black Bear Cabin was perfect for our trip during October in the beautiful north woods. The cabin was close to all attractions in the Keweenaw Peninsula as well as being accessible to Marquette to the east and the Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park to the west. The setting among maples and pines was gorgeous in the fall and the fireplace was inviting after a long day outdoors. The property was clean and in good repair with adequate furnishings and a very comfortable king sized bed in the loft. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting to stay in a central UP location near all the best the UP has to offer.

Classic cabin rejuvenates!
Not only did we get to see our son attending MTU for the weekend, we were able to rest and enjoy the time with him. We never left the cabin. It was so relaxing, clean and just what we needed. Kitchen is so well stocked, we brought food and were able to cook the entire weekend. Kriss and Ray were awesome! I hope we have the chance to stay here again. It was perfect!
