There were a number of things that could have been a lot better. First, just trying to get into the place was a challenge. It took about 5-6 attempts of entering in the code for it to work almost every time. There were 2 of us staying there, one in the bedroom and I slept on the sofa bed. It was so uncomfortable I had to take the mattress off and put it on the floor to be able to sleep on it. I also couldn’t use any of the bedding as it smelled like it was dried in about 50 bounce sheets. The entry door which faced the street had no curtain on it. When I was reading the reviews of this place, almost everyone complained about that so I was hoping he would have addressed it but he did not. The doors to the bathroom and bedroom were so tight in the door frame that it was difficult to open and close and very noisy so you would wake up the other person if you used the bathroom when they were sleeping. The cookware was of good quality (stainless steel) but they need to have an SOS pad in there to get the cooked on grease off so you could fry an egg with out it sticking. Having some basic essentials would be nice like salt and coffee. There was a coffee maker and filters but no coffee. The interior looks like it was recently done but not really finished in parts. Missing baseboard and bad paint job where the walls meet the ceiling. The icing on the cake was Ben asking us to take our trash with us or leave $8 as that’s what he is charged to dump it. That seemed really petty.

Very nice and clean, comfortable bed, just a walk down the street from the town. Had a nice dinner at the angry trout.

We stayed 1 night in Gand Marias and really enjoyed having this as our home base. It was fun to walk to the lake, and to all the shops in town. The apartment was clean and comfortable.

My family (we have a 6 and 8 yo) and I had an excellent stay and couldn’t have asked for a better location. Grand Marais is a gem and this place allowed us to be comfortable and well rested for a long weekend of adventuring.

Great little apartment for our girls getaway. The location is great and we easily walked to restaurants and shops. The only thing that made us uncomfortable was the front door is glass with no curtains or shades so people can look directly into the apartment from the fairly busy street. We ended up hanging a towel over the window. Also, the door doesn’t lock automatically and it took some tinkering to get it to lock each time we left. That being said, we would stay again!

The place was very comfortable and clean. Located close to town but still very private and quiet. The only change I would recommend is to hang a blind on the front door that faces the street.

The apartment was clean and perfect for the my son and I. We could walk to the downtown area and back with ease. The location was great and I would definitely stay here again.

Good just needs to keep the side walk clear, as it was overgrown as was the wet lawn. Inside needed a blinds over door! A few other minor repairs inside. Left note. Clean and great location. Not for the handicap. But is wasn’t meant to be. Always a great fun area for so many outings.

This is a great little apartment in Grand Marais. It was very clean, well laid out, comfortable, great Internet, and good location. So what's not to love? Lack of attention to the accumulation of multiple small problems that have been ignored for more than a year even after being mentioned in previous reviews. For instance: Lack of window covering on entrance door - passerbys can easily look into the apartment where someone is sleeping on the hide-a- bed or see occupants at night when the interior is lit. Of note is that the apartment is at street level and the sidewalk is about 10 feet away. Each night we would drape a towel over the door for privacy. Poor condition of the yard - I had to clip the branches of the large Norway Maple hitting me in the head each time I walked to the apartment from the sidewalk. The firescar has lots of trash inside it and the sidewalk just outside the door leading to the firescar has a very active ant hill partially obscuring the sidewalk and could be easly stepped in (ouch) if you were not looking down. When we look out the window to the yard the weeds are the first thing you see obstructing the view - they are taller than the daylilies planted there. The toilet is very noisy and refills constantly (about every hour or so because there is a small leak in the tank valve). We needed to turn off the water to the toilet at night so we could sleep without the noise. The bathroom sink had a hand pump of hand soap but there was no soap in the bathtub and we had to make a trip to the store to get some. The apartment is advertised to sleep 4 so there were 4 plates, 4 cereal bowls, 4 forks, etc., but only 3 cups and 3 knives and no serving dishes. It is a beautiful kitchen though with adequate pans. But the real kicker for us was that once we were given the check-in instructions we were informed that we were expected to take our trash with us or pay an additional fee to have the host dispose of it for us!. We have stayed in VRBO's all over the world and have never been expected to carry our trash with us on the rest of our journey or pay extra to dispose of it. The nightly fee plus a cleaning fee should be sufficient to expect trash removal - Grand Marais also has residential trash pickup. All of these concerns/problems could be easily fixed with very little investment on the part of the host.

Nice, bright, very clean and convenient apartment. Liked having our own entrance. Comfy queen bed and plenty of towels and hot water. Only minor disappointments were: sparse supply of kitchen glasses and utensils, no cable TV, and no blinds on front door window. Overall we would stay again.

Clean no frills apartment.

We loved how close the apartment was to everything. We walked everywhere. Comfortable bed and hide-a-bed. Much better than getting a hotel. Ben was very responsive and easy to reach. We will definitely try to stay here again next year.

This nice apartment with high ceilings was very pleasant and on quiet street with lovely trees. Good kitchen, but no dishwasher or outdoor grill. Bed was a bit too soft for us, but bathroom had plenty of hot water and was like kitchen, quite new. Close to a really nice little Mexican taco place a block away - plus a great many other eating choices. Negatives : Three concrete steps into lovely shady tree shaded side/back yard - but no handrail. Window on access door had no privacy shade. Refrigerator needed wiping down and one kitchen drawer had a good many crumbs. Otherwise neat and clean. Would give four stars but for need to fix the above - and to clean up the landscaping.

Simple check-in process (got a code for the lock a couple days before stay). Would feel better if the lock were a deadbolt, however the handle lock works well enough and the small town has a "safe" feeling to it. The location is perfect: a 3 minute walk to anywhere downtown Grand Marais. Clean apartment, all amenities included: fridge/freezer, oven/stove, microwave, shower, VERY FLUFFY TOWELS!! comfy bed. There were so many things to do around town that we didn't even touch the TV, but it was there if needed. All in all we really enjoyed our stay. Price is about par for what you would find in Grand Marais thanks to the "tourist effect".
