A proposito di questa casa vacanza
Historic Stone "Chalet Switz" under a mile from center of Little Switzerland

We absolutely loved the chalet. It was very charming and exuded rich history. The owners were kind enough to leave us a fire making bundle which we enjoyed greatly! The place was so cozy and relaxing- the deep tub was amazing! We don’t have a bad thing to say. An absolutely delightful weekend getaway that’s worth every penny.

We spent 2 days at Chalet Switz and love this quaint little chalet! It rained while we were there, but that wasn’t a problem because we loved lounging around and reading the books there about the history of Little Switzerland. We dined at the Little Switzerland Inn which was very good and the view was amazing! The owner stayed in contact and was very accommodating. Everything was wonderful!

I loved staying in this historic place. I loved the stone on the outside and inside. It was the perfect place for our trip. I was worried about there not being any ac, since temps were in the low 80s, but with the fans and windows opened for a nice breeze, the house remained comfortable.I enjoued having coffee on the couch, reading and enjoying looking outside. It was very cozy. Bettie was very fast with communicating, and there were no problems with checking in/out. I definitely recommend the place if you want a quiet getaway.

Wife and I enjoyed our stay at this unique and quaint cottage at the top of the mountain. We wanted a quiet spot to relax and this was definitely that! Enjoyed reading the history of the area in the books on the shelf.

Driving to this house felt like really getting away, which we needed to feel for our anniversary weekend. But conveniently, it was just over an hour from our own home. We were close to the lovely Little Switzerland (3-4 minutes), an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway (5 minutes), Emerald Village (10 minutes), a Walmart and a variety of restaurants (12-15 minutes). So though we felt "away" we had quick access to all the conveniences we wanted.
Staying inside the chalet feels like you're a million miles from everything, and it's a beautiful, historic getaway. The stone walls and wooden interior are beautiful, and though the building looks old (which is what we were going for!) the facilities feel up to date and comfortable.
Check in and check out were smooth, and we always had quick communication from the host, including travel tips. The fire started right up with the provided wood (at a nominal extra cost for the caretaker).
Stepping outside the home one immediately notices that the owner's house is just across the lawn, so it's not completely isolated and private, but you're outside! At a VRBO! What did you expect?
The building has a 2/3 lengt, 2-foot deep tub at the foot of the bed for bathing, and with the shower hose attachment, one can certainly stand up if desired, but we worried we would get the carpet wet with no curtain. So if you must have a shower instead of a bath, this may not be your ideal location.
However, it worked great for us, and we can't wait to come back!

The Historical Stone Chalet in Little Switzerland was a wonderful getaway for us to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! The fireplace was so cozy during our short stay. It was also nice to have the kitchen to prepare meals. Although the most of the businesses in the town of Little Switzerland had closed for the late Fall season, Spruce Pines was a wonderful little town that we enjoyed visiting. We enjoyed eating at one of their local restaurants and of course the coffee shop.
We hope to plan a future stay at this Chalet!!!
Loved our stay!!! A special thank-you to all those who made our stay a memorable one!!! ❤️❤️❤️

This property is very unique! A true get away from the hustle and bustle! We actually had some snow on our second day—it was beautiful coming down. The owner and caretaker were just a text/call away and very helpful. Thank you for sharing your beautiful Historical Switz Chalet!!

We enjoyed our quiet peaceful stay. On the clear nights the star gazing was wonderful and on the one overcast morning we enjoyed the most spectacular sunrise. The fires in the evenings were super cozy. Be aware the mattress is very firm. Thank you for a most enchanting stay Bettie and thanks to Steve for making sure the chalet was inviting to enter and for providing quick responses to our questions.

It was very cozy, quaint, and secluded. The kitchen is stocked with kitchen supplies so we didn't have to go out every day and was able to make some meals in the chalet and just enjoy our time away. If you have a bad back like we do, I suggest bringing some extra cushioning for the bed. Other than that, we loved it and are definitely planning on visiting Little Switzerland/Spruce Pine again!

A short drive from MP 334 on the BRP. This sweet 'tiny house'-like chalet is charming, a 1 mile road takes you to the top of a mountain, The Switzerland Cafe is at the base of this road and it was great (only open Thur - Sun 11-4). We were glad we brought breakfast and dinner items with us since we didn't want to travel too far after getting back from hiking. The chalet was a great retreat and very close to Crabtree Falls. Downstairs is dark (and cozy) so bring a reading light if you want to sit and read in front of the beautiful fireplace or at the table. Outside seating was covered in lichen so we didn't use it. Large windows let you see sky and stars!

The Chalet Switz provided us such a wonderful space for our third wedding anniversary. The Blue Ridge Mountains hold a special meaning for me and my wife, and this chalet allowed us to enjoy our stay with true charm and beauty. We hope to return to this property as often as possible.

Magical place with tons of charm with a historic perspective. Great communication and definately a go to place for two in Little Switzerland. Saw a cute brown rabbit on the property before we left.

The Chalet was perfect for our overnight stay while exploring the Blue Ridge Parkway and Pisgah National Forest. We would highly recommend this unique rental property, which was described accurately and very welcoming upon arrival.

We were referred to this property by friends. Relaxing chalet. Lovely little town.

This place is so unique. I mean almost of the charts unique. It’s the base of an almost 100 year old lookout tower that has been converted into a cabin. The owner was great to communicate with.
Drawbacks is that it’s just not real comfortable and is very small. The bathroom is just weird. The property outside is lacking in several ways also.
So if you are up for an adventure and a unique place you’ll like this place, but if you craze comfortable and nice furnishings then I would avoid it.

The Chalet Switz offered one of the most pleasant and peaceful accommodations that my wife and I have ever experienced. The Chalet Switz is extremely clean and it was well worth the long drive atop the mountain. It is a short drive to several restaurants and shops. I am ready to go back for another stay.

This was the perfect place to get away from work and from people. We went during the off season and loved the ability to be alone in the clouds, lounging around a storybook cabin all day!

This is charming, well stocked with basics and beautiful views. Close to Little Switzerland and the Mayland Earth to Sky Park with a planetarium and observatory. Host was very helpful regarding weather coming in during our stay. If you like "tiny houses" spaces, you'll love this place!

We had a lovely weekend stay here in mid November. This little home is adorable, quirky, and rustic. The stone is a work of art and we loved the fireplace. Everything was clean and cozy. We do wish the home had a softer mattress and a toilet with a stronger flush. The owner is an excellent host and the caretaker responds quickly. Most businesses were closed, including the restaurant at the Little Switzerland Inn. The nearby bookstore was an unexpected gem with a coffee shop inside. We went to Spruce Pine for dining and found great options there.

My husband and I just spent three nights in this beautiful chalet and exploring the surrounding area along the blue ridge parkway. The pictures do not do the chalet justice. It sits on top of a mountain and though the drive up is a little scary for those afraid of heights, the journey is so worth it. It is only a short 15 minute drive to Spruce Pines where there is a Walmart and several great restaurants, and it’s an hour from Boone and an hour from Asheville- both easy day trips. We truly could not recommend staying here more. The hosts are so welcoming and communicative. 10/10 stars. Can’t wait to stay here again.

It was ok. We would not return though. First and foremost, the road into the cabin was treacherous. If you have a fear of heights do not stay here. One lane, dirt road, with a drop straight down the mountain, no guard rail, so dangerous. In fact a part of the road was washed away, that we were not informed of, just that they were "working" on the road, on the day we were checking in. Also found out from the neighbor if we were not out before 9am the day of checkout, the road is shut down til 4pm because of them working on it, we would have had to sit in the car and wait. Needless to say we were gone by 7am. It was very very dusty, beyond normal cabin dust, had to get allergy medicine. If you stay here make sure to bring your own toilet paper too, that wasn't supplied. Thankfully we only stayed a couple of days here. Also the town was closed because we were off season and didn't realize it.

what a magical stone chalet on the mountain! It is quite a drive to get up there, but worth it! We were there with some snow on the ground, so the big fireplace was wonderful. A cozy stone cabin with a wonderful history.

For 35+ years we have visited, owned 2 homes in the Little Switzerland area. This is the 1st time to stay in Grassy Mtn area.. WOW. The views are fantastic. The old Kilmichael tower wa s a fun experience. Was a little hesitant for these 70 year old legs in the spiral staircase, but no problems. Your local manager was quick to answer questions. No complaints there.
My 4 on cleanliness was due to just a worn down look. Some kitchen utensils appeared soiled. But we just gave everything a good scrubbing and were on to enjoying our mid week mini vacation
Also I realize the bedding was of good quality, but the pillows were flat. Bed was fantastic.
I have recommended it to several friends who are familar with the area.
Thank you again

We enjoyed our stay at this one-of-a-kind chalet, a respite between hikes. So many things to appreciate: location, architecture and custom woodwork, peace and quiet, star gazing from the comfy bed. It had everything we needed though admittedly we did not cook (having leftovers from Little Switzerland). No TV was a bonus to us.
A few things could be improved upon too. Lighting was inadequate at the bathroom sink and also over the dining table. Not a good place to play cards or read a map, etc.
Maybe I don’t see as well as I used to, but there were no lights in these areas.
And while the carpet and flooring were very clean (according to the white sock test), the carpet is ready for replacement. The windows…not so clean which spoiled the view during daylight hours. Someone’s attempt to clean one left a smeary mess to look at. A little sanding or planing on the commode door would be nice too as the door made a horrible noise trying to exit in the middle of the night.
Overall we were satisfied with our visit, the place, and our host who was very gracious and responsive and helpful. She could charge a bit more for the rental with a few updates.

This Chalet was so cool. Very impressive and Ms. Bettie was such a great host. Total communication through the whole process. A very magical place.

I think that this was built by the Swiss. It is has 2 floors the outside is covered in stone and the inside features some thoughtful and uniquely beautiful woodwork. There are plenty of books and unique touches throughout.
Directions are a bit iffy so be prepared to ask for help and keep going on the dirt road until you see it on your left, also be aware the road is narrow in a number of places and be prepared to backup or move to the side.
The bed was very comfortable, nice linens and good pillows. The day we were there it was pretty warm and as there is no A/C the provided fans helped but it was a top sheet only kinda night.
We didn't use anything in the kitchen but my wife noted it would be nice to have some tea bags or perhaps a couple Kuerig pods for some coffee in the morning especially if you're staying one or 2 days only.
The hot water heater runs out of hot water fairly quickly so don't plan on a long hot bath unless you're sharing and the tub is big enough for that., it was perfect for us after a strenuous day of hiking.
The outside area is comfortable with seating and lounges in a pleasant setting.
We would certainly condsider staying here again probably in the Fall or Spring when it's cooler.
