Moonwalk - mid century modern home on North Shore St. Croix

We thought Moonwalk was exactly as described in the listing! We loved location - we thought it was the best area on the island! Close to restaurants and our favorite beach… Cane Bay! Bob was a great host and had great recommendations! Pool and views were phenomenal!! We had a blast!!!

My family and I stayed in Moonwalk for a week and absolutely loved it. The location cannot be beat, the views are stunning, and the home is truly one of a kind. The decor is very unique with lots of beautiful furnishings. We spent quite a bit of time exploring the tide pools in the back, walking along the water, or just relaxing on one of the decks or the pool. There is a great beach nearby with restaurants and calm swimming close enough to walk to. Bob was in regular communication and provided easy instructions to find and access the property and was easy to work with. Overall, a fantastic experience!

This was a great house in the perfect middle location to explore the entire island. It is the beach, so anyone who's had experience with that should know what minor inconveniences to expect. Sure, there's wear, tear, sea spray, etc.; but it is a HOME, not a luxury hotel. We loved it because of that and would stay again. The art and treasures everywhere, from the large driftwood octopus to the small bottle cap, were intriguing discoveries that probably had great stories behind them. The open windows (no need for air conditioner) with the ocean right out the back door were wonderful for putting us to sleep. The only drawback was the neighbor's lights on all night, so bring a sleep mask if you're sensitive to that. We loved sitting in the front tropical garden area with the lizards and birds to enjoy our morning tea out of the sun, and the sunrise and sunset ocean views from the back were awesome. The owners communicated extremely well, provided everything we needed, and even let us stay longer on check-out day as no one was coming in after us. We definitely recommend staying here. We also recommend doing the bioluminescent kayak tour with the awesome guides of Bush Tribe Eco Adventures, Cane Bay and Fredericksted Pier for snorkeling (saddened by dead corals at Buck Island), The Landing and Brew STX for restaurants, Many Hands Gallery off boardwalk for original art, Annaly Bay hike, Isaacs Bay... wow, just too much. And MoonWalk is the best home base for it all.

The pictures online do not do this property justice. Listening to the soothing sounds of the surf and lounging by the pool in the afternoon made this a very relaxing vacation. Great communication and support from the owner. Clean and comfortable. Because of the steady ocean breeze we never turned on the air conditioning. That wonderful ocean breeze does come with a bit of salt spray which makes for some corrosion here and there but hey #islandlife, it's all good...

Before I booked this house, I did a lot of research where to stay. As someone who had never been to St. Croix, I really didn't know where to be. I am so glad we chose to stay on the North Shore. The location for us was fantastic 20+ mins to the West Side and 15 to Christiansted. I wanted to be close to restaurants at night. We could have walked we were so close, but we chose to drive. The Landings was great, AMA was fantastic, Rowdy's was delicious (try the Teriyaki Edamame) and there were even a few other beach bars with pizza and more. Enough about food, let's talk about the house. It was great! The house is not a new house, so please keep that in mind, but that is what made it even better. It has history and stories to tell. It has memories and that made it even better. Through the gates you are lead to a contemporary home with rock gardens, a small pond and a giant tree, look for Iguanas, geckos and hermit crabs. Entering the house is a large great room open to the kitchen, dining and living area. The view is fantastic, but one thing to note was that when we got there, the windows did have that salt but it was windy weather with the wind pattern we had. We were there for ten days so after the winds shifted, we walked in one day and saw such a beautiful water view! The house has access to the rocky area beach but it is not a beach you would swim, just stroll. The swimming beach is right down the road Cane Bay. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook at home, mostly breakfast for us, they even had an air fryer and I think a bread maker if someone wanted to get serious lol. The two bedrooms were upstairs, and like someone else mentioned, they are connected but separated. What I mean by that is there is a wall in between the rooms but the wall does not go to the full ceiling, it stops above the closet and the ac is there that works both rooms. The AC by the way worked wonderful, but there were times we just had the windows open with the breeze and we were fine. There is also tons of fans throughout the house. The loft area had two twin beds and my kids hung there, but it would not be safe for young kids to use as the railing are open and they could fall. There are 1.5 baths, the hot water takes a few secs. The pool was cold but warmed by the end of our trip, it was beautiful. The driftwood notes left around the house added to the charm. Thank you Bob & Dru for lending us your home, memories that will last forever.

This is a great house fully equipped with everything you need to fix meals. The pool was amazing and views incredible! Easy communication with management. Recommend! Only advice is make sure everyone is fully aware that ac is only in the 2 bedrooms and only used at night. AC is not in the loft that is used as a bedroom area.

This house was really nice and location is amazing. Beds and furnishings were comfortable. The only issue we had with the house was that it wasn't really clean. I am not talking about the salt spray and rust/corrosion from being near the ocean. The kitchen sink had leftover food particles in the basin, the floors looked like they hadn't been done 100% - there was visible dirt, and the half bath had a dirty hand towel and a garbage bin FULL of dirty diapers upon our arrival.
I am not sure if the housekeeper ran out of time or what, but it was a little off putting.
That being said, we did have a great stay...location was perfect and just sitting and watching the ocean was great.

My wife and I were very disappointed with Moonwalk, which was listed as a "modern luxury villa" on St Croix. Luxury is not how I would describe this rental, as it was not quite guest ready. The house was more cluttered than the pictures indicated on VRBO, and there were books in dresser drawers and clothes hanging in the closets. A truck was parked in the middle of the driveway (owner did offer to move it after I complained but we'd already decided to leave at that point). The beach chairs were in poor condition and the towels were worn. Food was left in the refrigerator and the silverware was lacking.
The beach at Cane Bay was quite narrow and the large beach on the island, Sandy Beach, was closed during the week!
On the positive side, the pool was very nice and the water views from the house were stunning, although the saltwater spray left a film on the windows. Overall, the negatives far outweighed the positives on this rental, and we left after 3 days.

The location was perfect. There is nothing better than listening to the sound of the ocean to put you to sleep. There were so many separate sitting areas all with a view of the sea. The house is situated close to everything. The owner was very helpful in recommending a car service and things to do.
For my family this was a perfect getaway to escape to.

We loved this house. Perfect location for us, family of four, two teens. Quiet, a little off the beaten path. Close to Cane Bay for beautiful beach, snorkeling, SCUBA, and good restaurants. Good grocery store is 20 min away, over the hill. The rocky shore kept us busy exploring tide pools with a couple small sandy beach areas as well. Check in and communication with the owner was easy and timely. Kitchen is well stocked. A plumbing issue at the end of the week was addressed immediately (thanks to John, the property manager). It was August, so it was pretty hot but slept comfortable in AC with the bedroom doors closed. A few days were blown due to a tropical storm, so we can't wait to go back to see more and look forward to coming back to the same house hopefully!

We had a wonderful time at the Moonwalk! The house was incredibly charming, we loved the beautiful decorations. The kitchen was fully stocked. The view was to die for. We never had to use the AC because the house was always so ventilated with the cool breeze. The owner, Bob, was easy to communicate with and was incredibly welcoming. Would absolutely stay here again!

Everything went smoothly with zero issues. Moonwalk had everything we needed such as beach towels, coolers, bath towels, kitchenware, stocked bar (we left a bottle of wine for next guest), nice tv and sound bar for kids to enjoy a movie here and there at night. Kids didnt last long though. :)
We hit all sides of the island and then came home to privacy right on the ocean. Cannot ask for much more. Be sure to hit Sandy Point beach first only open on Saturday and Sunday 10 am to 4 pm. during certain months of the year because of turtle nesting. Last scenes of Shawshank Redemption were filmed here too. The only thing I would add to the cleaning schedule is the big windows in master bed and main floor windows. Too big not to be squeaky clean when guests show up to show off ocean views. A pool light out back would be cool too but just a suggestion, not a necessity. Thanks Bob, Dru and family for sharing your paradise home with us. Cheers! The Schneiders from Minnesota.

Beautiful and relaxing
This home is beautiful inside and outside! Outside, the landscape and seascape are so beautiful that you feel relaxed immediately. We even had an adorable iguana who would sun itself on the rocks -- my daughter loved it! Listening to the waves crash against the shore was so relaxing. The home itself was clean, bright, modern, and welcoming. We relaxed near the pool everyday and on the upper deck every evening. the owners and caretakers are very friendly, responsive, and helpful. I would highly recommend this place and we plan to stay here again!

Can't beat these views!!
We had a fabulous time at Moonwalk! Bob was easy to work with and quick to reply and the house is just as pictured. The views and sound of waves from the house are breathtaking. We loved walking down to the shore from the house (it is rocky, but great for feeling the ocean spray) and watching the pelicans dive. The pool area needs some love - a lot of loose and missing tiles and low water level, but I know that's something the owner's plan on revamping.
Regardless, it was a great spot to cool off in the mornings and evenings (some evening pool lighting would be a great addition). I'm not going to lie - it was HOT. Outside and inside, but it was the end of August and we expected that. We even camped in the living room a few nights because it was a tad cooler. There is an upside to visiting during the summer months - less tourists! We pretty much had the beaches to ourselves and didn't need to worry about booking things in advance and could just do as we pleased each day instead of having everything scheduled. We explored Christiansted, snorkeled at Pelican Cove, rented jet skis at Rainbow Beach (near Frederiksted .. this was our favorite beach - so crystal clear) and rented a zayak (like a body board with a clear viewing space for your head so you can see the sea bottom). We also drove to Point Udall (gorgeous drive!) - looked like good snorkeling there. We also did lots of snorkeling at Cane Bay Beach (you can also do shore dives there out to "the wall"). Took a drive through some rainforest roads (glad we rented a Jeep b/c several times during our mapless explorations the roads would start out okay and then turn into rubble and ruts). Had plans to go to Buck Island, but time ran away from us. As far as food goes - do your research - dining out and buying groceries are expensive on the island. Eat @ Cane Bay was pretty good and Above the Cliff was more of a bar scene, but very friendly and decent food. We ate at The Bombay Club in Christiansted and weren't that impressed. The blackened mahi bites at Rhythmns @ Rainbow Beach were my fave. The house has everything you would need to cook at home as well. Our daughter's favorite part of the house was all of the lizards and hermit crabs - she got pinched twice, but was still in awe. Overall a gorgeous property and a beautiful island. Not a ton of "island culture", but a great escape from our city life. Thank you, Bob & Dru for opening up your home to us travelers.

Paradise!
If you are looking for an amazing get away to St. Croix look no further! The Moonwalk property is a DREAM! I was looking for a place that would provide seclusion, the feel of living like a local as well as a pool and close proximity to the beach. This has it all! The property itself is exactly as pictured, the view from the balcony is stunning, you can see the sunrise and sunset, you constantly have the sound of waves hitting the rocks, which I already miss falling asleep too.
We took the suggestion of eating at a few local places, Above the Wall, Eat at Cane Bay and both were very good. We walked to Cane Bay Beach and enjoyed the beautiful beach and some drinks at Spratnet which had good service. You can drive but if you like to enjoy the weather and walk it is an easy walk.
We also took the suggestions of renting a car and seeing the whole island. We truly enjoyed Frederiksted and HIGHLY recommend the Beach Side Café, the food was amazing, the view stunning and the beach was beautiful.
The boardwalk at Christiansted was a great place to visit, we had lunch at Shupe's on the boardwalk and it was delicious, we snorkeled half day at Buck Island and it was the best snorkeling experience we've ever had. We also suggest the bio-luminescent kayak Salt River Bay, if you enjoy kayaking and experiencing a very unique glow of the water you can't see everywhere you will enjoy this.
Lastly but not least, the owners are fantastic! Very easy to work with, quick responses and great recommendations. The onsite property manager Phillip is awesome, we had an experience where the power went out for quite sometime on our first full day, Bob prepared us for this but it was off longer than expected so when I reached out to Phillip to double check there wasn't anything I needed to do, not only did he follow up via text/phone but he personally stopped by the next day to make sure we were all ok.
Overall we had an amazing time, before we left we were already planning our next trip back to this property as soon as we can!

Unique loft style Island Oasis with Amazing Ocean views & a pool, perfect for a post beach day dip
I recently stayed for 7 nights and Moonwalk with 3 of my close friends. When we arrived, the place was just what we were hoping for. The open style lofted ceilings provide an open airy feeling, perfect for a beach vacation. While there is no a/c the ceiling fans and standing fans are just enough to keep you cool during the nights while you listen to the waves crash right outside your window. The views are amazing! While you are able to walk down to the beach, it is fairly rocky and a bit dangerous. Not really a big deal, as St. Croix has amazing beaches - we went to a different beach everyday. (Highly recommend snorkeling at Buck Island). The pool is perfect for taking a dip after you get home from the beach but we didn't spend much time at the house, aside from sleeping and cooking dinner. The house has all the amenities you need for cooking, a grill, and a blender for mixing up your favorite cocktail. There are two bedrooms, both with ocean views on the upper level. Also, a lofted living space sits outside the bedrooms with a couch that could be used to sleep on. Our time was spent outside by the pool or inside cooking in the kitchen or vegging after a long day at the beach on the couches downstairs. Plenty of seating room and we were able to hook up our Netflix and amazon account to stream movies at night. We rented a jeep for the week, which I highly highly recommend for getting around. While the island is not big, if you want to really explore all that it has to offer, a car is essential. The house was very secure with a gate at the entrance and security alarm so we left the top down every night. In my opinion, a vacation to St Croix is best had exploring the beaches, the downtown area, and all the island has to offer, not to be spent in doors. This house was a perfect place for us to rest our heads, cook and enjoy each others company over dinner and take a dip in the pool in the evening. Bob was super helpful and friendly and ensured that we knew where everything was and provided recommendations on where to visit for shopping, groceries, and beaches. I highly recommend this place if you are looking into visiting St. Croix :)

Moonwalk is a very special place, we had a wonderful time!
This is a great house in an awesome location! Cane Bay is a very quick walk from the house (my 5 year old did it easily). There are plenty of restaurants, bars, snorkel and scuba rentals right at Cane Bay. The lush rainforest area is a quick drive, and really fun to explore. Bob and Dru have thought of everything, the house is fully equipped. Comfey beds, plenty of towels and linins.
The sound of the ocean waves will put you to sleep every night! I hope to make it back one day.

We loved this location!
As we drove in, our first impression was a bit disappointing, not as we expected, the yard has so much potential, and I am sure it will be beautiful as time goes on, the owners haven't had the property too long. But the interior of the house was perfect! We wanted a low-key vacation, not having tons of people wherever we went. This island was just that. We loved the fact that the restaurants and beach were within walking distance. We made a new friend in the caretaker, Phillip. What a great guy!! And he was so willing to help us with anything we needed. We would definitely be interested in booking the property again.

Amazing Beach House
The house was bright, breezy and very roomy. A lot of privacy is provided by the stone walls and tall plants. The view from the deck and large windows on the ocean side is beautiful and we enjoyed sitting on the upper deck watching the waves, birds and boats. The pool is great for cooling off and there is easy access to the beach for walks and gathering treasures. The large living area has plenty of comfortable seating for gathering together and the kitchen has a large granite counter top for meal prep or a quick meal. Ceiling fans provided plenty of cooling along with the ocean breezes. We enjoyed our stay and the great beach at Cane Bay. There are several good restaurants close by and plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities.

We Loved Moonwalk
I, along with three other guests could not have been more pleased with this house. Moonwalk's open floor plan makes this a great house for all who enjoy spending time together (if you are inside at all). Moonwalk is very comfortable and inviting. We did some exploring, however if your looking for a place to just chill and relax, this is the place to be. It sits in a very quiet neighborhood right on the water, so whether you are inside or out, you have stunning views. Moonwalk has a great yard, and a very nice pool deck area for kicking back and catching some rays, and or having a cocktail. There were days when we didn't leave the house, which says a lot for me, because I usually like to explore more but found myself quite content just being on this property, as its private to be in a residential type area. The days we did go out, it isn't a long drive to go anywhere your heart desires, and just a couple minutes to Cane Bay where you will find a few places to eat and hang out if you desire. Honestly, I wanted to set up house here. The owners were great to work with, and instructions for anything dealing with the house were easy to follow. I would recommend this home for most anyone. One thing, if you were to consider not staying here due to no air conditioning…Please DO NOT let that deter you. Once you are there and the windows and doors are open, there is a magnificent breeze that you will enjoy immensely.

Great house, great location, great owners!
We just got back from spending two weeks at Moonwalk, and it was our best experience on St. Croix so far (we've been to the island two times previously).
Bob and Dru, the owners, are simply great people from whom to rent. Very fast responses to e-mail, and detailed instructions on how to get to and into their home, what to do/who to call if any problems were to arise, and even where to shop for groceries and dining recomendations were delivered ahead of our arrival. Once we got there we were greeted by a clean, nicely appointed, and perfectly located house/villa. Literally 20 steps to the sea, Moonwalk is in a quiet area of Cane Bay with a huge (for the area) yard filled with plenty of palms, hibiscus, and mangroves to afford privacy yet allow perfect 180 degree views of the crystal clear blue water and the song of the waves washing against the rocks. There's a gated, long driveway with plenty of space to park, and inside is a big kitchen with counter seating, a dining table, a den/family room with an Internet-connected TV and DVD, an upstairs loft for relaxing, and two nice bedrooms. One little thing not noted in the pictures is the half-bath which is painted floor to ceiling with a "you're in a submarine in the sea" motif with fish and sea life all over, and even a little porthole window to the outside. Cute!
You are within walking distance of 3 restaurants and the beach, and it's a short (2 minutes, maybe) drive to two other restaurants. Located halfway (roughly) between the two cities of Christiansted and Fredericksted it's an easy 10-15 minute drive to either to do some sightseeing, shopping, or to visit some other restaurants. If you like to pelican watch, Moonwalk's the place; Cane Bay could be renamed Pelican Bay. We also saw tons of hermit crabs of all sizes, geckos (of course, it's St. Croix), iguana..but we're still looking for the whales and dolphins that everyone but us see on St. Croix. Well, next time we will, hopefully. If you like birds, you'll likely see kestrels, sandpipers, heron, rock doves, and others I couldn't identify, all at Moonwalk.
Don't let the fact that there are only two reviews of Moonwalk scare you off; the owners have only owned Moonwalk for a short time and only recently started to rent it out. To repeat - Moonwalk is a great house, in great repair, in the perfect spot on the best part of St. Croix - the North Shore.

Best Location for a house in St Croix
House is right on the beach and less than a 10 minute walk to Cane Beach and all the restaurants and amenities, including a great dive shop. I would definitely book this property again.
