The John Ford House is a wonderful bungalow just a block from the Casco Bay. Every morning I sat on the deck and watched the water, breathed in the clear air and enjoyed the cool breeze. The house is lovely - beautiful wood floors, antique furniture, a wonderful yard, and a great view of the water from the Master Bedroom. If you're a fan of old movies - which I am - then this is the place for you. There are framed posters from John Ford's movies, a DVD collection of his works (and other movies too) and books about him and his career. The house is an easy walk into "town" or to the 2 public beaches. Dan and Mona were great and answered all of my questions. I'd return to Peak's Island just to stay there again!

This lovely cottage was perfect! Extremely clean, with plenty of room for gathering or finding a quiet place to read, and well appointed. We appreciated the little signs throughout with instructions. Very helpful! Waking up with a view of the ocean from the master bedroom was delightful! Had a wonderful time and look forward to staying again!

This was a second time staying at the Ford house. There were six of us and we all had enough space to spread out and enjoy the house. We did a lot of cooking and felt the kitchen could be better stocked with newer pans and serving dishes but made due with what was on hand. We enjoyed the large yard for games and the deck for quiet times sitting and looking at the water.

This house is a lovely home away from home! Beautiful touches of fresh flowers from their garden, towels laid out, everything clearly explained. The house has many areas which can be used as conversation/ reading spots. Plenty of room for a little privacy when you want some. Dishes, utensils, baking and cooking supplies are all available. You can see and hear the ocean right from the house! Beautiful huge lawn with gorgeous flower beds . Chairs are available again to facilitate chats or quiet reading. A terrific deck with a dining table and plenty of chairs with cushions. Worth every penny

Location was perfect! Hosts very easy to communicate with. Full size bed mattresses were very poor and very uncomfortable. Some items were missing in the description- chiminea, sleeper sofa in LR, (just a couch)cutting board in kitchen. Would stay again if there was more updating to the home.

We had a great stay at The Ford House for our wedding weekend! The location was perfect and the house was adorable. It met all of our needs and then some. Mona & Daniel left some thoughtful details (the pound cake was delicious!) and were very accommodating. I would be happy to stay there again!

Charming property in a perfect spot! We loved having morning coffee on the porch and an evening glass of wine on the deck. In between we walked to the beach and to restaurants, or the ferry. We couldn’t be happier with this rental and are already planning a return!

The rental was great for a family weekend for a destination wedding. The home had great green space for the kids to explore and they loved the walking all around. The weather, night sounds, and air was so pleasant with the windows open (May weather). The extra details like welcome notes, easy guidebook, and beauty items (hairspray and blow dryer) were fantastic. Communication was easy before arrival and I didn't have any other messages.

As a writer and history buff, our stay in the Ford Cottage was a rare treat. And to read that this was the place John Ford considered "home" was even more confirmation that we made the right choice in booking these accommodations. The hosts/owners are gracious, timely, accurate in the description of the cottage and very helpful with questions. The home was lovely, clean, not overstated in its decor, and truly afforded the four of us a wonderful, restful, restorative weekend. Proximity to the ocean is perfect - just a stone's throw from the waterfront, but far enough off the main road to enjoy the peacefulness of the location. We were delighted and highly recommend it!

Everything you could have asked for. Well appointed and clean. The grounds and house were decorated impeccably. Able to sit on the deck and hear and see the ocean. Great views from the master bedroom as well. A great way to experience Peaks.

My family has been renting on Peaks for years and this is by far my favorite house. We enjoyed everything from the moment we checked in, being welcomed by fresh flowers and a delicious pumpkin bread. To the day we left, bidding Dan and Mona a farewell while they cleaned up from an unexpected and damaging storm. The location is wonderful. The views are incredible. The yard is a real bonus. And the house is full of history and cinema. We hope to stay there again soon! Thank you Dan and Mona!

Great week at the Ford house filled with island history!

We had a wonderful return trip to the John Ford house. The location is just right. Dan was super responsive. Can’t wait to return next summer!

The house was beautiful and in a great location with an amazing yard and garden. Mona and Dan were so kind to leave beautiful flower arrangements from their garden and a blueberry pie for us upon our arrival. The house itself has a great layout with amazing views. Our family couldn’t have asked for a better place to spend our vacation. We plan to come back again soon. Thank you Mona and Dan!!!

We've stayed many times on Peaks Island and this was the cleanest and most pleasant place we've ever stayed at. The owners clearly spent a great deal of time and thought into making sure your every need is met. And that includes beautiful gardens to enjoy. Walking distance from the boat but far enough to enjoy peace and quiet. Just a lovely spot and highly recommend.

The Ford cottage is in a great location on Peaks Island just a 5 minute drive from the ferry. It has serene views of Casco Bay and was also larger than we had expected. We enjoyed everything about our stay and absolutely play to come back again in the future.

We spent a relaxing and wonderful week in late December/early January. The house is cozy. The sun porch warmed up so nicely even on cold days so we could sit and read there with the ocean view. We went for long and beautiful walks along the shore. The kitchen was well-stocked. The hosts were super responsive. And the house very clean. we highly recommend!

After losing my mother and our kids grandmother in the last 2 months, we were in need of a get away thanksgiving far from normal and we looked for an island getaway. This property was perfect…extremely cozy and isolated but easy access to the village center and 20 min ferry to Portland for more activity. Kitchen had all the wares and appliances you would need and there was good communication with owner. I see us back at the house when we need a ‘break’.

The Ford House was such a wonderful accommodation! Our family (2 adult + pup) was looking for a quiet get-away and this was the perfect place. The house itself is full of charm and the location cannot be beat. If you are looking for an oasis on Peaks Island - this is the place for you. The hosts were also amazing and made us feel so welcome. Would definitely return and stay again!

Our family truly enjoyed our weekend in this cottage. It was comfortable, cozy, outfitted with anything and everything we could have needed. A quick walk down to the beach and beautiful views! The yard was great for the kids and a very quiet neighborhood. Will be booking again! Thank you so much!

My husband and I have stayed on Peaks Island several times now. I have a history with the island and now my husband and I are making new memories together. The Ford House was a delightful place to stay. We could hear the ocean from our bedroom and there is nothing like hearing the ocean to create a wonderful nights sleep. All the communication with the owners was easy. They were very helpful and made everything very easy. We enjoyed it so much we are planning on coming back next year.

We (two adults with our 16 yo daughter, our Niece and Spouse with their infant son) really enjoyed our short four night stay for a family wedding on the island. Interesting to know that the Director John Ford grew up in this home. Small but practical bedrooms, able to hear the ocean waves in the evening with open windows throughout the night. Short walk to the pier, but the cab rides are very inexpensive. recommend walk down Great Pond road to the water (100 yards) and turn left for a wonderful ocean walk or better yet, bike ride. If you are looking for a large yard for activities, this is the place. Thank you.

My family and I can’t say enough how much we enjoyed our stay at the John Ford cottage. The place was perfect, comfortable beds in all the bedrooms and the futon on the front porch was also comfortable. Likewise, the couch was very comfortable. This has not always been our experience with rentals. The kitchen was overall very well appointed, with lots of glassware, plates, utensils, etc. The deck, yard/gardens and location in general are spectacular, and we really appreciated the many vases of cut flowers. We definitely hope to stay here again!

I have been coming to Peaks Island since the 1950's and my family cottage is diagonally across the street from this one. The hosts have done a beautiful job with their cottage - the yard is spectacular and the views amazing. I knew it as a neighbor but after renting The Ford House for my family, I was doubly impressed by the amenities provided. There were fresh flower arrangements from the garden throughout the immaculate house. The instructions for what was available in the house and locally were clear, and when a minor issue popped up, the hosts responded instantly. We loved the deck and the master bedroom especially - both of which have incredible views. The gentle ocean breezes coming in the windows were delightful. The two dogs in the family were also welcome which was a bonus. I unreservedly gave The Ford House five stars.

Excellent location for us with beautiful gardens. House very spacious. However, house could use a gas grill, bigger kitchen trash bin, better fans (house was very hot), upgraded kitchen pots pans and utensils since there was no gas grill (but a totally inadequate charcoal grill)we had to cook most meals inside.

We had an amazing week at Dan and Mona’s place. They thought of absolutely everything— from an exceptionally well-stocked kitchen, fans in many rooms, personal soaps and shampoos, and cut flowers from their garden in vases throughout the home. The place is thoughtfully decorated and we enjoyed browsing the supply of games, books and videos. And what a great setting and location—we played lawn games in the evening before walking over to the new pizza place and DownFront for ice cream. Water views from the lawn, the bedroom, and the deck! All in all, an idyllic spot.

Located at the start of my walking route along Seashore Avenue, this house is at the top of our list. Listening to the ocean waves while sleeping was amazing. The deck was a great spot for breakfast and coffee. There were fresh flowers in every room and pretty little soaps that added nice little touches. You will definitely not regret this stay.

Our crew of 4 with kids age 18-21 had a fabulous time. The location meant we could venture off on foot and bikes in small groups while having meals together. We loved spending time on the deck looking at the water.
