Tropical Oasis in the Hills Overlooking the Pacific

We loved staying at Casa Libre for our 10 day visit to Samara. We witnessed monkeys frolicking and enjoyed fresh mangoes, limes and coconuts off the trees, all right outside our door. The views from the property are outstanding and we loved the pool area and rooftop deck.
There were some leaks in the roof and the property is definitely an adventure to get to (super steep roads), but overall we were very pleased with our stay. Thanks!

Property was as described, with stunning views of the Pacific. Pool and property are very clean, and such a wonderful Costa Rica Villa. We will definitely stay again in future trips.

The title of the home speaks for itself. This home is truly a tropical oasis. We loved the spacious home, the amazing tropical landscape, the pool and the beautiful views. Can’t go wrong with this home for your Costa Rica vacation.

The house is very spacious and well stocked with anything you would need in the kitchen. The AC works very well! The pool is quite large and the kids loved it. The driveway off the main highway is harrowing and 4-wheel drive will be needed.

Casa Libré is located in the hills above Sámara with a Pacific Ocean view over lush green trees. Awaken to howler monkey calls and bird songs and gecko chirps and take a dip in the pool to start your day. All amenities are there for meals, laundry, comfortable relaxing g inside and outside.. if you’re looking for easy access to beaches, tours, Local towns and a wonderful nights rest, come here!

Could have been a perfect stay, but....
We've been to this villa before and were really looking forward to spend 2 weeks there again. We arranged the meeting with the property manager at 10 am in their office. Nobody showed up. After scrambling to contact someone (we had some phone issues) we finally managed to make other arrangements - it was almost 1pm when we got to the house. We were welcomed by another surprise - there is a new house being constructed next door- I'm talking 5 meters from the bedroom window. The workers started their day around 5:20 am every day, except Sunday. Huge trucks, carrying cinder block, diesel digger, chain saws and hammers- all that jazz!
When we left on Nov 20 the construction was still going on...

Great getaway above Samara
Beautiful house to relax in with friends and family. The house was well equipped with comfortable beds. The pool and roof deck were wonderful. We saw monkeys, birds, and coatis daily. The beach in Samara is just minutes away. Overall, we had a great trip and the property met all our expectations.

Wonderful week at Casa Libre
Fantastic house and relaxing environment with a great view and nice pool. The owner Phil is great and very prompt with communication. The house was clean and well equipped and stocked. The house is a 6-7 minute drive from the center of Samara but has fantastic views. The road getting to the house is off-road and SUV is a must. The property managers in Samara were also fantastic - a tree came down and took out the power line to our house one night. Leonardo (one of the property managers) promptly picked us up in the morning (we couldn't get our car out) and worked with the electrical company to have the tree removed a new line placed by the afternoon. All the recommendations for food and activities were also spot on. Our family (with kids 11 and 9) had an incredible stay.

Good, secluded place
This was a great vacation spot. It is secluded, but not too far. Carrillo Beach is 5 minutes away.
The major issues were around alarm that kept going off, the overgrown trees which made the pool dirty and almost unusable.
There needs to be more ground keeping at this spot.

Fantastic Retreat!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your lovely home! Thank you so much for the hospitality, and excellent communication. This house was an oasis, and the perfect landing spot for our vacation. Would definitely stay again!

Great place. Pictures don’t do it justice!
We had a marvelous Thanksgiving week stay here. Paradise. Lovely and comfortable big home. Private but could hear some construction going on next door which looks almost finished and didn’t bother us as we left every morning to go exploring. Kitchen is large and fully equipped. Pool was so refreshing after a hot day at the incredible beaches. Samara was just about 5 minutes down the hill. The road up to the place was steep and a little bumpy but in the dry conditions never caused any issues.
Monkeys and Coati and many birds (and the occasional untethered horse) would show up in the field and trees below the pool. The rooftop patio was awesome and we watched a wild lightning storm out at sea from there one night. The windows and sliding doors allow for great ventilation when it’s not too hot and the AC units were up to the task when needed.
It should be noted that there is no TV which didn’t matter to us but might affect those who bring kids. The WiFi worked and didn’t run out on the card that was in it. Apparently downloading files will drain the SIM pretty quickly so we did our downloads of books or song lists at restaurants in town, all of which had free WiFi.
We loved Casa Libre and hope we can come visit again! Thanks Phil!

Soothing Samara with Adventure on the Side!
We certainly enjoyed the lovely Casa Libre in Samara! Bedrooms and kitchen were huge! All the amenities you would need. Really enjoyed the outdoor pool (although be aware that the frogs love it too!) and having a washer and dryer! Great things to do nearby! We went on a whale-watching adventure, horseback riding adventure and ATV Adventure, enjoyed many of the local restaurants and the BEAUTIFUL beaches!!! Would thoroughly recommend! One note of caution-the LOOOONG driveway is scary the first time up it but it grows on you and becomes part of the adventure! Might recommend a 4-wheel drive for both the driveway AND the area! Melissa was lovely and greeted us warmly, personally escorting us to the villa...nice touch!

Wonderful property - spacious and updated, great pool and views
My family of 5 (3 kids agest 5-11) stayed here in August. We absolutely enjoyed our stay in Casa Libre. The house is surrounded by nature, views of mountains and trees from every corner of the house. The drive to town is very convenient (less than 10 minutes away). The bedrooms are large and spacious with en suite bathrooms which was very nice. There is also a smaller room off of one of the bedrooms which my husband used as an office while we were there. The outside area is really beautiful. The view from the pool is spectacular. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you need. It seems all the appliances and kitchen items are new. AC and fans in both the bedrooms and the living room made it very comfortable. Highly recommend. We've been to Samara several times and hope to stay at Casa Libre again when we return. Thanks, Phil!

Great rental outside of town
Casa Libre is a great rental just outside town. We stayed in the house for ten days. The house is well equipped for a rental. It is very comfortable. The roof top balcony is great to watch the sunset or thunder storms. The rental is located just outside town up a small hill (rent a 4 wheel drive). The hill is NOT a problem to get up at all (even in the rain), very easy and well lit with street lights. Phil and Melissa were great and helpful. We saw monkeys from the balcony at the pool. The town is great to spend the day in and then come home at night for a quick dip and dinner at home. Overall great rental is unique spot in Samara! Pura Vida!

Paradise with a Capital P
First of all the owner of this house Mr. Phil was more helpful and then helpful could be. He was always around via email to answer any and all questions, and as a traveler, it was much appreciated. His home is comfortable, safe and a perfect place to stay when exploring Samara and the areas around. And we saw and heard more wildlife at his home, then we did on any adventures we went on. Monkeys, baby monkeys, iguanas, wild horses, all kinds of frogs, moths, etc. and a giant toad that came for dinner every night, but didn't eat much. Do not let the driveway freak you out, it is no big deal. DO rent a 4 wheel drive, you will be able to see much more of Costa Rica in this type of car. My travel tips: Go North to Playa Nosara and Playa Guiones. While in Guiones eat at Al Chile. Guiones has better shopping then Samara, more of a surfer / yoga beach town. Good place to rent a surf board at LOW TIDE. Playa Pelada, great beach with tide pools and eat at La Luna. Head South to Playa Islita, eat at Restaurant Kambute for the BEST Seafood. Check out The Ara Project for the native Macaw. When in Samara, eat at Locanda and Gustos (good place at night too) - both on the beach, well-priced and good Mango-rum drinks! Also, Samara Sushi. (Yes. I am a foodie) - The grocery stores; we liked the Iguana Market, Roots Bakery and the butcher shop. We also traveled to the Arenal Volcano and stayed at The Lost Iguana Resort and it was AMAZING! Fold this area into your trip, if you can. A note about the roads in CR, and the other drivers…be careful and know that where you plan to go for the day, can take twice as long to get to! Really! All and all, a great place to visit, in a very comfortable home!

Clean, well maintained and very private.
Phil has an excellent property. The cabinetry is first rate, and the countertops – being solid granite - make for a very lovely kitchen area. The bedrooms are large and very comfortable. The backyard is wonderful. We really enjoyed the pool and made sure that we had breakfast under the Tiki hut every morning that we were there. We relaxed, enjoyed the sunshine, and listened to all of the nature that surrounded us. It was A wonderful experience. Some reviewers Have commented about the rugged drive to the property. My only comment would be that they really didn’t do much research on Costa Rica before arriving. We did our research, and it indicated that you really should rent a 4 x 4 for your time in Costa Rica. If you do that the road is no problem whatsoever.

Beautiful in Paradise
The property is very well groomed and the house is immaculate with all the amenities that you could ask for. The home itself is well furnished and has two private suites, leading to the terrace where you can sit and enjoy , or you can go poolside where there is shade as well as sun ! The pool is a good size and the surrounding terrace is tiled and very comfortable, and stunning with the bush’s, flowers and trees. The kitchen is a very luxurious kitchen with every thing you need to function. Overall the property was fantastic as well as safe. The road to the property could use some TLC as could most roads to many of the properties in the area, which is why a 4x4 SUV should always be rented in Costa Rica . The property owner Phil was great to deal with as was his property manager Melissa who dealt with the very few questions we had. We would certainly recommend this property as well as return as it is truly a beautiful home approx 6 min from the beach yet nestled in the hills . Thank you Phil for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home and we look forward to returning .

Beautiful secluded home overlooking the Pacific
The property was everything we hoped for. The property description didn't quite do it justice. The kitchen was much larger than it looked in the pictures. It had everything you need with all up to date appliances. The two master suites were also much larger than I expected. Both master bedrooms opened onto a large covered veranda. We spent quite a bit of time there. The living/dining room has the most amazing table! The pool was very well maintained as was the entire property. The road to the home is steep. Since we were there in late August early September when there are some amazing thunderstorms I was glad we had rented a 4WD SUV. I imagine during the dry season a regular car would be fine. I would definitely recommend this property!

secluded sanctuary so close to the beach
This was a perfect place to stay for myself, partner and twin teens. The pool was glorious, refreshing after a hot day exploring, nestled between nature reserves, letting us hear wild monkeys calling, birds, incredible insect sounds -- Very easy location to get to and from everything you want to do. I only wish we had spent more time at the house! We were so busy doing activities -- wish we had more time to chill and enjoy the house more. Very clean, loved the tile floors, has its own resident iguanas that you hear crawl on the roof -- very nice modern kitchen -- all wonderful. It was also nice that through the property manager, Melissa, you can get a discount on the tours at Samara Tours. We snorkeled, hired a fishing boat, and did a great nature hike with a guide. All fun. And we also surfed, which is really affordable. Only $4 per hour rental. And if you take a lesson, you get the board for a week. I would highly recommend this home.

BEAUTIFUL HOME PEACEFUL STAY
We stayed in this home with my twin teenagers, myself and my boyfriend and had an amazing time. The view from the home is amazing, and it's nestled between numerous nature preserves so you hear monkeys calling, birds singing, incredible insect noises. The pool was so refreshing after a hot day exploring all that Samara has to offer. It was nice to be busy doing things in town and at the beach, do multiple excursions, and then come back to the solitude of this wonderful home. We loved the iguanas we saw each morning! I would definitely recommend this place. BTW, one reviewer complained about the steep driveway. It's steep, but we could do it easily with 2 wheel drive -- the first time is a bit scary, but after that, it was so easy and fine! Don't let this deter you from staying here!

Best place I've been to in the tropics
I spent a month at Casa Libre, last year. I've been to a lot of places in the tropics -- Tahiti, Ecuador, St. Thomas, St. John, and the Dominican Republic and three times in Costa Rica. Costa Rica was the best and Casa Libre was the best of all. The house, the views, the pool, the natural surroundings and privacy, apart form but so close to the beaches! It was comfortable, private, relaxing, with all the conveniences. I loved sitting in the pool and looking off into the distance at the Pacific. If I could I'd love to live there, forever... Melissa, the property manager, was available whenever we needed her, but we never did. A great place!

Fabulous mountain and ocean views, beautiful house, wildlife galore
I spent three weeks at Casa Libre, and felt like I was staying at a resort. It is located in the hills above Samara. It is very private, quiet and secluded. The house itself is marvelous, yet very comfortable, with all the modern conveniences, large spacious rooms, and a fully equipped kitchen. The roomy bedrooms open onto a wide veranda that looks out over the green hills to the Pacific Ocean - a perfect place to enjoy the views with my morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon. Views from the rooftop pavilion are breathtaking of the surrounding hills, mountains, and ocean, and the hammocks on the pavilion are perfect for reading a good book, or just catching a nap. You can enjoy watching a beautiful sunrise and sunset from the pavilion or the veranda. Plenty of wildlife share this beautiful location, including birds, monkeys, humming birds, varigated squirrels, iguanas and coatis. The stunning Infinity pool is another great place to relax by if you don't feel like going to the beach. We enjoyed dining outside in the poolside. The house is only 5 minutes from Samara beach and the town and about 10 minutes to Carrillo beach. Samara is a wonderful town, with many different options for dining and activities such as surfing, volleyball, horseback riding, etc. I loved sitting at one of the several Samara beach cafes to enjoy watching the beach activity and the beautiful sunsets. At Carrillo beach, there was very few people at this peaceful undeveloped beach. I enjoyed floating in the warm gentle waves for longer periods of time each day as well as observing all the teeming life in the tidal pools during low tide. I would recommend the guided hiking tour at Samara Trails and a zip line adventure at WingNuts, both located right across the road that goes to Casa Libre. I would heartily recommend this home to friends, and can't wait to come back again!

Nice house good view worst driveway ever
We enjoyed our stay in samara, a great beach, and the house was comfortable ,clean with some nice amenities. It is. 2 bedroom house, not 3. Can,t stress that enough. 2 nice big bedrooms with baths. There z an annex off of one that leads to the garage, no closet no bath, no ac,no real bed.- hence not a bedroom. outdoor eating area by pool very nice but u do have to trek thru a bedroom with your plates to get to it. Not really a big deal but no where else to eat. All that aside we enjoyed the comfort of the house with cool breezes and pretty vistas. Lovely rooftop observatory. The real deal breaker is the worlds worst "drive". It is about a nhalf mile of dirt with three nearly 45 degree inclines and one hairpin switchback. This made the house very inconvenient to beach and town. Every trip in and out was a pain. It was like an enormous obstacle to doing anything. If you want to escape and never leave the house you rent you will be comfortable here. If you want to go anywhere - think twice.
