Very accommodating of vegan and gluten-free diets

Comfortable, gracious hospitality—beautiful facilities. One of the best places I’ve ever stayed.
I couldn’t stay there longer.

Fukuzumiro was an exceptional ryokan experience! The rooms were absolutely beautiful, looking out at the river. There was access to multiple different onsens, including public and private. The breakfasts and dinners were delicious! The stay at Fukuzumiro was one of the best parts of my trip to Japan!

Lovely staff, amazing rooms, beautiful river view
and onsens —and delicious meals. I requested pescatarian and they accommodated this very well
First time I stayed in a place with shared bathroom but the positive aspects of this stay made me get over it pretty fast

5 onsen on site, including a public women & men that switches during the day so that guests can experience all 5 onsen.
The dinner & breakfast are multi-course extravaganzas of deliciousness.
It's an expensive place to stay. Also the hotel itself was rather chilly for us, though the room had ample heating.

Amazing experience in a traditional Japanese ryokan!
The staff was very professional and helpful; the room was very spacious with all the amenities provided and an amazing view over the nature surrounding the ryokan. The private onsens and the the traditional meals served in the room were a plus!
I wish we could have stayed longer here!

The food was amazing! There was a lot of food that was local and enjoyable to eat. If you enjoy seafood, then the food was delicious and presented so nicely.
The onsens were very enjoyable to soak in, with a choice of 3 private and 1 public onsen. Very considerate extras - combs, razors, cream etc in case you need and the service is fantastic. Extremely friendly and helpful.
We loved the location as it is about 25 minutes to get to Gora to sightsee or 40 minutes to Lake Ashino.
We enjoyed sleeping to the sound of a river at night. Was so peaceful, soothing and relaxing.
Some of the sliding doors were a little squeaky but it wasn't too bad. Also, as it is a Ryokan they make the bed where you eat so you can't lay on your bed.

Meals were served in the comfort of the room with a personal touch. Both breakfast (which came with the room) and dinner (which was an added bonus) consisted of a collection of delectable Japanese delights. Very tasty and highly recommended!
The place was wonderful. Although the toilets were shared and down the hall, there was no issue with this, as this is traditional way. I absolutely loved the entire experience!

Very good experience. I booked two months in advance so the price was beautiful to me but traveled alone so the fee is a bit higher than people for two. Dinner and breakfast were all Japanese styles and they will prepare in your room, which is also good for the current pandemic.
Close to Hakone Yumoto (walkable without large luggage), ~ 8 mins or 5 mins to Tonosawa eki (DO NOT think about carrying your luggage from this station to the hotel or vice versa, there was a long long stair).
If you have large luggage like 28'' or bigger, taxi is recommended (700 JPY)
My room is a bit cool bc those days were cold. There was no central heater.
The info of the shuttle bus service is not correct on their English website, from 12 pm to 4 pm, there was no shuttle bus from Yumoto eki. So be careful of the time.

I would like to write this review in English so I can recommend to international travelers. This is a traditional Japanese ryokan but very suitable for travelers. They not only cater for different dietary requirements such as vegetarian or vegan, much of the information is available in English and the staff can also speak English. Mami took care of us during a 1 night stay there, and we both enjoyed the service, food, and the onsen. The room felt comfortable and had a nice view out into the inner garden. The location is also ideal with a bus stop a couple minutes walk away but also you can walk from the nearest station within 15 minutes (slight up hill for those with suitcases!)

Fukuzumiro is tucked away in a quiet but accessible little spot. There’s a little river right outside which is a welcomed sight every morning. It also has private onsens which can be booked for 1-3 pax or 1-2 pax everyday. Reservations are made by room, simply write your room number on the booking paper on Level 1. If the onsens are booked out, there are communal female and male baths too. Mami was super helpful and kind to us in our stay there. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there.
Tonosawa station is a short hike away too which makes access to key attractions super convenient. There’s also a bus stop right 1 minute away. The food is delicious as well with breakfast and dinner being provided. This was a rejuvenating and lovely stay.
Sound proofing, as with most Ryokans, is not the best. Hence, please be considerate of your neighbours.

This beautiful ryokan was probably my favourite part of my Hakone trip. The staff are extremely kind and speak English. There are also several different onsen to try out and experience, including some private onsen for which guests can reserve time slots upon arrival at the ryokan. Location is very close to Hakone-Yumoto station as well - either a very short bus ride (2 bus stops) or a 10-min walk away!

Beautiful, old, tranquil. Started in Ume #1 with girls friends for a weekend getaway. Execellent service, delicious food, and unique accommodations. We had a room overlooking the river, which is gorgeous and comes with the beautiful sound of flowing water throughout the room.
The private onsens were both very available, and you may also utilize the public onsen with a tattoo.
Will definitely be back!

This was my first ryokan and onsen experience, and it set a very high standard by which others have been compared in different cities. I felt welcome from my first step in the door, and Yukiko made it special by explaining everything from how the ryokan works, how to find my room, how to use the onsen and what food I was being served. My very large room was beautiful and by the river, and I like the sound of water so this was perfect for me. It was a bit loud during the period I stayed because it was full after the typhoon. Yes, there is a bit of a musty smell sometimes because it's in the forest and, as I mentioned, by the river. The private onsen is open 24 hours, very relaxing and was never occupied during the time I used it. And the food - wow! Artfully and carefully prepared by a chef, these meals are several small courses and served privately in your room. They're delicious, they're special, and they feature local Hakone specialities. Location of the ryokan itself is a few steps from the bus to the train station in one direction and to the lake and Torii in the other direction. Would stay here again when in Hakone in a heartbeat!
This is feedback for other visitors, not the ryokan. I was unconcerned by negative or low reviews left by previous guests because it's obvious they were based on pure ignorance. For example: a) Price: The included private breakfast and dinner is called kaiseki, which can cost as much as $50-$100 per meal (look it up). You're not just paying for the room. b) No laundry: The listing says that there aren't facilities, so choose another if this is important to you or use the river. An establishment isn't going to change their property or business model for individual people with niche needs. c) Social: This isn't a youth hostel with buffet style meals. You can meet people on the street, on the bus, on the train, at cafes, etc.
