It was very conveniently situated close to the metro, shops, seafront and restaurants. I stayed in room 18 which was wonderful, very warm and comfy. Staff were very friendly and the breakfast each morning was first rate.

The horrendous smell in the room (clearly a blocked waste pipe in the bathroom, which was subsequently confirmed by the owner); for which some of my room price was refunded (or so I was led to believe). Nearly three months, and four ignored emails later I’m yet to actually receive it. A choice between a child’s size portion of muesli or coco pops does not merit the title of ‘continental breakfast’.

Lovely 2 night stay at the Clifton. Perfect location, right in the centre of all attractions, shops, pubs and short walking distance to the beach. Room was good size, spotless clean. Entrance doors were keyless, we used codes to get in. Breakfast was lovely, a lot to select from. Coffee shop itself was lovely decorated, made you feel cosy and warm. Staff was lovely and helpful. Car park just outside the hotel, street parking, no charges applies. Everything was spot on, we will definitely visit again

Breakfast was amazing. My room was small but very comfortable. Staff were amazing. Cal lent us a tie when one of our colleagues forgot theirs! Even the housekeeping team offered to help me downstairs with my luggage. I can honestly say the staff are awesome.

The staff and breakfast were fabulous. I had a single room which was quite small but had a good sized shower and everything that I needed. I have stayed here quite a few times and have always had a warm welcome. Nothing is too much trouble and I can totally recommend for a visit to South Shields.

The clifton is every thing you wish for when booking hotel /guess house, great position for bars restaurants shops, also the beach and parks and parking, the staff were polite, friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them, the room was spotless and the bed very comfortable and not forgetting the breakfast you had a great choice, I had the full English 😋 this was the second time I've started and booked again for December . PS no I'm nothing to do with the clifton and I would recommend it 100 % to family and friends.

Has I've said about everything the hotel and south shields the bars, pubs were very friendly well worth a visit if you have never been and I would recommend the clifton.

Handy town centre location.

Like a previous guest’s experience, our room was cleaned when the do not disturb sign was on the door and we were eating breakfast. This annoyed me as I didn’t want anyone in our room. Then, when we got back from breakfast, a cleaner just let herself into our room! No idea why! The second morning, a cleaner was knocking on our door while we were packing up. Check out was 10am so at least wait until then before trying to get into rooms!

It was in a great location and was decorated nicely. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly. The breakfast was lovely and the cafe was a little gem!

The rooms were on the smaller side and I found the bed quite uncomfortable.
