The place (Kratovo) was great, rich and filled with history, small and very interesting, as was the stay at the 300 year old Shancheva House. The hosts were very nice and welcoming and helped me with my troubles of doing laundry. I wholeheartedly recommend!

Staying in Shancheva is a must if you are staying in Kratovo. Keeping in mind that this is an old historic house, it has everything you need for a comfortable stay. But what definitely makes it the best place I stayed in Macedonia is the very friendly, generous and knowledgeable family it runs it. thanks to them I could really make the most of the living museum that is Kratovo. The property is a 300 years old house in the historical center of Kratovo. It is very well preserved and very beautiful. Stevce and his family are very hospitable hosts: they gave us the traditional Macedonian welcome and we got to try Kratovo's unique spice mix. They also offered us a walking tour of the city (at a small extra cost) through which we learned about Kratovo's fascinating history. Great stay!

Amazing hosts! So hospitality, so friendly. You definitely need to stay in this place if you want to feel how people lived 100 years ago. This place like a museum.

A rare opportunity to enjoy a homestay with slow cooking and meet a really interesting family. Loads of history. Breakfast very good. Loved their home grown tomatoes and wine too

Staying at Stevce's house is a rather private experience, it's like being a guest in someone's home. He's also the one making a personalised breakfast for you every morning and if you can't find something on the table, he'll immediately pop out to get it for you. His son will act as your private guide around town, if you so wish. Highly recommended!

Firstly, the welcome was amazing! We were seated and while the formalities were being handled, we received an appetizer of local dishes cooked for a religious occasion, raki, water and juice. We got some info from the hosts about the region. The rooms are charming, even if basic. Everything was clean for us. The breakfast is a treat, fantastic homemade food like bread dough donuts, ajvar, eggs and peppers, cheese, cake etc. . The host had the breakfast with us, encouraging us. The price is very good.

A bit difficult to find, narrow streets, but part of the charm. The shared bathroom could be a disadvantage, but there are only 3 rooms, it went fine. House is old, it has its sounds when walking or closing doors.

Authentic old house in the centre of wonderful little Kratovo town. It has all the necessary facilities. The hosts were extremely welcoming and hospitable, providing me with home-made food, wine and rakija. Highly recommended!

This 300-year-old house has been converted in a rustic guesthouse with three sleeping rooms. The house is especially interesting because it's not been "modernized" (apart from the bathroom), so staying here feels like going a while back in time. Antique and traditional items are on display in the rooms and in the common areas, and in the basement there's even an etno-museum where lots of old household items are on display. Winters can be cold here but the wood stove in the living room makes it pleasantly warm and each sleeping room has a powerful electric heater. Every day, a different breakfast is served and it is possible to eat it together with the owner and his family. The breakfast is wholly home-made, organic, excellent and abundant. Guided tours, trips to nearby sightseeings, degustations, and practical lessons about how to produce spices can be arranged. The owners are extremely helpful and always more than happy to answer questions about the town and its history and culture, the old lifestyle, the making of local products, the food that they serve, what to see in the town, and much more. They also run an etno-shop which is also a tourist info center. The WiFi is very good. There's no traffic in the small and steep alleys around the house, so it's a very quiet location.
