The best part was the wonderful host Angela. Hotel located in a really idyllic place only a short ride out of town . Food excellent . Angela fantastic . Great hotel .

Staff amazing, food great, the chalet we got the stairs were very steep for our over 60 group to go up and down to use the bathroom through the night. Had it not been for the steep steps we woule have had no issues at all The women running the place is very lovely and the staff all very accomadting.

Clientèle essentiellement américaine et des couples. Ne convient pas aux voyageurs solo. J’avais lu dans les commentaires que la cuisine était copieuse, loin de là petit bolognaise et petit bagel au matin. Le petit dessert est soi disant inclus mais toutes les bonnes choses sont en supplément ( jus d’orange, gaufre etc). Ma chambre avait vue sur un arbre dans la jungle, ça ne le donnait nullement envie d’aller sur la terrasse.

The manager - Angela - is incredible! A true hospitality professional (rare in Central America!) & excellent travel advice. She the reason our stay was as amazing as it was! The hotel itself is beautiful, We stayed in the "Enchanted Cottage", which was just lovely. The entire property has charming board walks and paths. The restaurant was ideal - delicious menu!

Beautiful place on the river. The port staff were really helpful in ringing the hotel and the boat came immediately. Staff were really helpful in hiring us a boat for a full day on the river and organised it all. The room was a great jungle lodge experience with extremely comfortable beds (best we've ever slept in) and very hot showers. Food was gorgeous from the restaurant and very reasonable. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Very welcoming for families. Great pontoon to swim off. Great library where we all restocked our reading material!

Not so much "things we didn't like", just a couple of things to be aware of when booking: - there's no air con in rooms so nights were very hot (although this did add to the jungle experience). - despite screens on the doors and windows, we got extremely bitten by mosquitoes in the room so nets over the beds or plug-in insect repellents would have been appreciated. - the hotel boat is a great service taking guests to the port and back, but it would be useful to also use the boat for small trips along the river such as visiting the Castillo (a 5 min boat ride). When we asked how we could get there, we were told to walk through the jungle to the main road (a minimum of a 15 min walk) and catch a local bus, which wasn't really practical in the heat with 2 young children. Therefore, we missed this experience.

What did we like? All of it! The rooms are tastefully decorated. They were very comfy, despite being in the middle of nature. Attentive staff, picked us up to and fro Rio Dulce. Good food, cold beers. Very refreshing to be able to jump in the river when hot!

Our family loved Tortugal Lodge! It was hard to leave. Wish we had booked for longer. The staff were welcoming and very helpful! I arrived with a bad cold and Angela was so kind to make me healing tea and check on me. The hotel setting was beautiful and we loved swimming right off the dock. We were nervous about not having AC, but we were plenty comfortable in our room at night with the fan. The rooms were lovely and cozy. We definitely felt connected to nature while also being very comfortable. Such a beautiful, relaxing place!

Placed in an exquisite and unique location, Tortugal is a gem and a must if you are coming by this area in Guatemala. Super friendly staff plus a fantastic and delicious food sums up to achieve almost perfection. I can add that this is a family-kids.friendly location. We came with our 2 kids (7 and 9yrs) and the staff was super nice with them too.

We stayed two nights here, really friendly and helpful staff, especially Rudy who helped us out with a adapter to charge our phones and always smiling. Great location directly on the riverside, good accommodation with very clean rooms, good ventilator which keep it quite comfortable even in the hot and humid weather. Amazing food with fusion kitchen character with typical local food, Asian and Italian influence, we as vegatarians had so many options and rarely ate better during our travel through Guatemala. Big portions definitely worth the price. Delicious homemade drinks all with filtered and treated water so no worries about ice cubes there. The whole-day boat trip they offer is really nice to see the points of interest in the near up to Livingston and worth the price. We were happy they even organized our shuttle to Antigua which worked out really well, thank you for the great time to the whole team!

Everything! We loved this place and wish we could have stayed longer. welcoming staff, beautiful location, clean comfortable rooms, tasty food. We loved swimming in the river and kayaking.

Almost everything is good in this hotel. The location is very nice. You have great view over the river. The staff are very nice and helpful. We got a beautiful room, it was very tastefully built and decorated. The beds were good too. My kids loved swimming in the river, and to be honest so did I.

I hit my head when stepping onto the balcony. (I’m 1.87/6ft2)

The river front room was spacious, clean and just as pictured. The two ceiling fans did a great job of making the temperature comfortable for sleeping at night. The hammock on the porch provided a nice secluded spot for relaxing. The room was protected by good screens so mosquitos weren’t an issue. There was easy access to filtered water in the restaurant and closer to the cabanas. There was also a really nice boardwalk through the jungle to the town. The staff was super helpful both before and during the stay. The Rio Dulce area can be a little confusing with regards to transportation, so it was good to have help. The Hotel is home to a number of boaters which made from some great story swapping at the bar in the evening.

All good - would definitely go back in the future. Wish I had taken more pictures to show how great it is.

I loved everything about my stay at Tortugal. From the staff, service, attention, food, grounds, lodging, and peacefulness. Angela, Leo, and Rudy were amazing. They went above and beyond to make us feel like stars!!

Everything was perfect!

It was quite a unique and nice experience. Especially the food was amazing! Even though the bungalows are in the jungle they are well protected against mosquitos. In the morning you can use the kayaks for free. The personal is really helpful and nice. If only the one bad thing didn't happen, I would give a 10

As soon as you finish your booking you get a message that they will pick you up at the dock. Well that wasn't true! Also the number they left to call wasn't working (out of order). The people at the dock knew that. I had to buy myself a private transport to the hotel.

It was not explained properly in the reservation how to get to the hotel which created a bit of confusion. Although it was a little stressful finding the location…once we got to it…everything was wonderful!

Free pickup by lancha. Relaxing location on Waterfront. Helpful and attentive staff. Great for our one night before heading to Livingston. They organized a private launch for us which was well worth the extra money for a leisurely sightseeing journey to the coast.

everything! The place is tidy, clean, in a perfect shape and the rooms are lovely. We got a different room than booked and it was a wonderful stay in a two bedrooms with a private bathroom. The beds were comfortable and the little balcony was great to enjoy first thing in the morning. The included breakfast was great and there was endless coffee & tea in the morning. It was the perfect stay at Rio Dulce with a nice restaurant and lovely people. We clearly enjoyed the sunrise each and every day. Pablo & Garcia (the dogs living at the property) are the cutest! Instead of one night, we stayed three and we hope to come back.

everything about it ! the rooms are lovely , the location is perfect and the activities (kayaking, swimming around the property, taking a boat to the river, walking in the woods) in the property were fun! the food was excellent throughly the day including breakfast. lunch and dinner and the drinks are delicious. the staff and especially Angela and Ruby, were just so lovely and are So welcoming and professional. they helped us with everything. from the minute we arrived until we left, even with taking a bus back to Antigua and arranged the driver, taking a boat day trip and just made everything feel so nice. Angela is an exceptional caring person and made us feel so good during the entire stay. thank you Angela for making our stay so special.

This is a great place, accessible by boat, usually from the Sundogs bar who will call the Lodge for you. Tortugal has a great restaurant & bar with reasonable prices & apart from a big lunch one day in Livingstone, we didn't eat anywhere else. They can also do a fantastic plate of chicken nachos for a light meal in the evening in those circumstances The room we had was a hut right on the river itself with a large bedroom, a great balcony & hammock.The bathroom however is small - but that is similar to many places in Central America. Hot water in both the shower & sink - unusual in Central America, but no shampoo supplied which is unusual Free coffee was available each morning from 6am & we would get this & just sit on our balcony & watch the river waking up before breakfast. Angela the Manager was superb, extremely helpful & great company at breakfast & dinner. They can do laundry for you & I would highly recommend this place.

Such a lovely property with fantastic staff. The food is incredible, fresh, and local. They helped us organise a day trip to Livingston, kayaking in Rio Dulce, and a trip to Finca Paraiso. Can’t recommend this place enough!

Cute little bungalow in the jungle just on the river. It’s simple, but they have everything you need. in the restaurant there is a pretty good local fish. The staff is super!
