Wonderful staff. Lovely old building and grounds in a very peaceful setting. The food was worth the stay alone.

Some of the local tuk tuk drivers didn't know where the location was.

Location was good. So calm & serene. Felt like staying there for months. No hustle bustle, no noise, just peace and greenery all around. Loved the stay!!

Nothing as such.

The homestay served home cooked meals, which was delicious, sumptuous, tasty and soft on our stomach. I was absolutely amazed by the personal attention paid by both Mrs. Shantha Kurian and Mr. Renju. We felt totally at home and even the other family that joined us on the second day made us feel that we were all part of one big family. We had a truly memorable time.

Tourism has not yet picked up and may be if the tourist traffic increases, the facilities offered my become wider.

So peaceful and a very personal service from the family. the food was delicious and we enjoyed seeing their garden and the crops they use in the kitchen. gorgeous old house.

Be prepared for quiet and no real activities - but if that's what you are after it is perfect.

The property has enough space to walk around

The breakfast was not good and deserves a big thumbs down. the idly and sambar we had from there was a let down. It would have been better if the breakfast was not included with the booking.

Breakfast was delicious and served with all the comforts of homely air. The only setback we had was the non-availability of tea on the evening of the first day. We had to go out for snacks and tea. We were in a hurry too. We want to come over there for a relaxed time next time.

The staff are helpful and friendly. The food is fabulous. The location is lovely for walking as the scenery is so attractive.

The tuk tuk drivers are charging very high rates more than treble what it should be, so nothing to do with the property.

whoever likes quietness is at the right place there. located near a river bend makes it a super relaxing experience. The hosts do their best to make you feel comfortable.

Lovely hosts. Nice and quiet location on the river. Lovely place for pure relaxation, birdwatching, reading, walking or just "dolce far niente". We had some really nice food. One of the best home made caramel custards we have had in a long time. :-)

The location and homestay is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. The staff helped us to seamlessly organise several amazing activities including a houseboat ride which is a must-do. We did yoga every morning with an excellent instructor and also took advantage of the on-site massage and steam which was excellent. The breakfast was included and was lovely with different dishes each day. They catered for vegetarians as long as you advised in advance. We also had dinners here for a small extra cost and these were equally good. Overall, a great place to relax and get away from everything. Thank you.

The place really beautiful, clean and peaceful. You can take autorickshaw to go to the Fort and visit the places around.

Fabulous location, beautiful property, spotlessly clean, well maintained and run. Very helpful and pleasant staff.

I bit isolated- but that had its own charm!

The place was tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Kottayam town , but not too far away. The only sound was that of the birds and the wind. A perfect place to relax or work from! Shanta Kochamma, the hostess and Renji, the manager, were most gracious and helpful. The room and bathroom were spotlessly clean. The river had a mystic calmness to it and I enjoyed a boat ride one afternoon. The food and breakfast were wonderful. Authentic Kerala cuisine, very tastefully prepared. Not many places are able to provide homely, local food, so this was really nice. The day I arrived, I had not asked for breakfast, but they managed to muster a quick breakfast for me. Being slightly remote, one has to be organised for food and transportation. They were able to get an auto/taxi on prior notice.

It was a perfect stay! The main road is about a kilometre away, so one has to walk to an auto or plan ahead and call for it earlier. No other hotels nearby- so need to be organised and pre-order food or eat in town and come back.

A great property in a scenic location. Comfortable room and amenities. Friendly staff. Period furniture adds to the attraction.

Maintenance needs improvement. The shower taps were non functional and a large metal vessel to collect water was provided in the bathroom; totally unexpected. The shower taps should be replaced. The location by the bank of the Meenachil river is impressive, but the road to the property is not very nice. With some more attention to maintenance, this property can be far more impressive.

Calm and quite place . Well maintained property.

Everything was perfect. Nothing more to pen . Regarding rooms , oh! its more than expected. And breakfast was superb. My parents were with me . They all liked to be there at room peacefully. We all enjoyed the beauty of nature. Especially we all experienced birds chirping all the time. So we didn't visit Bird sanctuary, as this beautiful place is surrounded by evergreen trees and birds . Enjoyed God's gift. Thanks a lot for everything . Will come and stay with Akkara !

The ambience, food, courtesy and attentiveness of staff. Peace and quiet.

Location was about 2 Kms from the main road.

Very beautiful old property with extensive grounds situated right next to the river. Everything was clean and comfortable. Very quiet and green location, perfect for relaxing. The manager and owners are very friendly and helpful.

Overall value for money is great, but meals were charged extra (a lump sum of Rs 1500 for 5 meals - not very transparent). I only found out when I paid the bill at the end - it would have been nice to be told in advance, or to have a menu with a breakdown of prices.
