A proposito di questa casa vacanza
Beach villa w/fiber optic internet- Steps to beach with garden full of wildlife!

We loved our stay here! Great private, 2-story home a very short walk to the beach. It was easy to walk anywhere in town from here. We recommend taking the 2 PM or earlier bus from San Jose because we got in very late from the 4 PM. Lots of cool wildlife visible from the house in late August: toucans, iguanas, frogs, noisy monkeys. Troy is an amazing host, very attentive and easy to communicate with. He made this great stay even better!

Family of 4 stayed for 4 nights, 2 double bedrooms and a sofa bed on the ground floor, fans everywhere kept us cool. We loved the house and the location next to the beach, a few restaurants close by but also easy to walk into town. Seeing the monkeys, toucans and other wildlife from the balcony was a highlight. Troy was on hand if needed but not intrusive.

Secure property w/locked gate, quiet, easy walk to beautiful beach & easy drive to lots of activities. Fairly private (host lives next door so you’ll hear each other daily), beautiful flora, some fauna though “more than in the national park” is false. Agoutis & tree frogs in yard, can hear/see monkeys in the distance. No sloths/monkeys/toucans in mango tree in yard like I’d pictured from the listing. Other pros: western-style toilet, filtered water faucet, 3 boogie boards & 2 beach towels, outdoor hose for rinsing & clothesline for drying, full-sized fridge & basic kitchen supplies, good wifi, laundry & house cleaning provided once included. Cons: house is old, hot, & dirty. No A/C, couple ceiling fans didn’t help, 1 ancient floor fan did nothing. Host brought an extra better fan on request. Every day there were critters in the house - roaches, ants, lizards, termites, despite us leaving no food out. We even put our toothbrushes in a tupperware container. Multiple kinds of droppings (poop) & termite dust & ants daily on kitchen counters, by trash can, stairs, windowsills, floor. Host aware, came & said he thought it was bat poop (inside the house?!) & “fixed” some hole in the wall while we were out which lessened the poo, but didn’t get rid of it. In short I never could relax fully there. Didn’t wanna be barefoot inside, almost too hot to sleep, constantly bitten by ants/mosquitoes. We left 4 days early out of 12 we had booked.

The house is really comfortable and unique. There is a lot of wildlife nearby. We felt completely safe. Troy is a fantastic host - very concerned with our comfort and ensured we had everything we needed.
I would love to stay there again - it was perfect!!!!

Troy was an amazing host. The cabin was an off the beaten path but still close enough to everything you would need. There is tons of wildlife near, we got to see monkeys, frogs, sloths, agoutis, and toucans. Inside the cabin was really nice and it had all the items we needed for a great trip. The beach was a short distance away. The food was amazing in Cahuita!! We loved the area. Would definitely visit again.

We loved our stay here. The location is incredible within a very short walk to Playa Negra and easy walk into Cahuita town and the National Park. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay including great shower, drinking water, and fast internet. We loved hanging out on the porches watching and listening to the wildlife - from the yard we saw numerous bird species including vultures, toucans, rales, kiskadees, hummingbirds, and saw sloths, howler monkeys, iguanas, poison dart frogs, tree frogs, agoutis and bats! We loved being woken up by the howler monkeys. We spent our days walking the beaches and wildlife viewing at the park and in the backyard. The house is a bit on the rustic side which we found charming but may not be ideal for someone who doesn't want to see the odd lizard or bug inside - our family didn't mind at all. The house is nicer in person than the photos suggest and we miss it already. Troy was the most amazing host - excellent at communicating and ready to answer any questions. Don't hesitate to book this place if you want a comfortable, safe place to stay close to everything surrounded by wildlife and with a super host.

I can't say enough wonderful things about our experience at Troys place and Cahuita! It is BEAUTIFUL, clean, convenient, relaxing, and welcoming spot! We loved everything about it and are excited to get back as soon as we can. Troy was a fantastic host who went out of his way to make sure we made it there safe, sound and that we were happy and not inconvenienced in any way. We'll see Troys place again and Cahuita again soon! Pura Vida!

We had such a great time! Troy is a spectacular host! He was waiting for us upon check-in, and had everything ready for us upon arrival. Absolutely breathtaking property, with so much peace and nature on the front porch. Just a few steps to the beautiful Playa Negra, and restaurants in town. No matter the question, Troy was a phone call or text away to answer. All of the comforts that are needed in Costa Rica are available in this property. I highly recommend it!! We had never made a trip like this before, so we were not sure what to expect... but it was amazing all the way around! Thanks so much for a great getaway! Also, Hugo was a fantastic driver to get us from airport to Playa Negra.

The property is exactly as described and more - tons of wildlife, gorgeous garden, and an easy walk to the beach or into town for dinner. Troy was more than helpful with suggestions for hikes, food, and tour contacts - if I could give him 6-stars as a host, I would! The house is a lovely beach house with everything you need for a relaxing stay. I would love to come back with a group of friends to explore the area more. Just in the gardens we saw an amazing variety of frogs, Agouti, monkeys, birds, and insects. Our favorite activity in the area turned out to be enjoying a beverage on the upstairs porch and just watching the wildlife! We hiked the beach trail at the park and nearby waterfalls at Troy's suggestion, the waterfalls were gorgeous and secluded. For food in the area we really enjoyed the Cahuitas Taste Caribbean Soul Food restaurant and fanstastic sushi at Sobre las Olas by Gondwana (on the beach). The restaurants closest to the property also serve drinks on the beach, the Toucan makes some fantastic cocktails!
You can tell the owner takes a LOT of pride in giving guests a wonderful experience, we would love to come back to explore more!

Can't say enough positive things about this property! The house was as described. The owner, Troy, was very nice, and helpful. There was so much wildlife to be seen on the property it was delightful. The property is close enough to walk to town, the beach, etc.

Here you will see nature and lots of it. We loved the thrills of just sitting on the porch or deck and waiting for whatever was next. Climbing sloths, Howling monkeys, Foraging agoutis, Stealthy iguanas, Poisonous dart frogs, Clamoring Toucans, Laughing falcons, Leaping lizards, and so many amazing bugs and plants. I think it's safe to say the whole family had a transformative experience. Troy is a great host and super accomidating.

We loved our safe little casita. We saw so much wildlife from our front porches, more than in the national park and our night jungle tour. Troy helped us find off the beaten path treasures and guided us to a lively time. We would 100% go back here. We walked to dinners and the beaches.

We stayed here for 6 days during our spring break and loved the chill Caribbean side of Costa Rica. Troy was a fantastic host who was very helpful and also respectful of not intruding. The house and yard were amazing with all sorts of wildlife seen right from the porch. The whole town is walking distance and an amazing beach only a block away. We would stay here again if we come back.

The yard is absolutely gorgeous. It's obvious Troy spends a great deal of time on it! He is also a great source of information.

The cabin was set in lush gardens. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook a few meals, and it was easy walking distance to Playa Negra. Troy was very helpful with local information. Perfect.

Once we arrived, we enjoyed how laid back we could be and away from the touristy part of Costa Rica (Pacific side). There's plenty to do on this side (Caribbean side), if someone wants to be active. We mostly wanted nature and appreciated the more modern conveniences offered by Troy, especially the water filter. The lagoon is very cool, and the National Forest is worth a few days. The people Troy recommended were awesome, especially Hugo (driver from and to the airport). Troy was excellent with communication. The trip was worth every penny. To improve: we moved the downstairs fan to upstairs so we had two fans at night, but a ceiling fan would be a great addition. It would also be great to have access to two bikes instead of having to rent them. But Troy's price is very fair and the experience worth the five stars; we only offer the above as suggestions, not complaints.
Save some money for a special visit to Restaurante Pizzeria Cahuita. The owner served us and is from Naples and Venice = great mixture of authentic Italian food and local ingredients. Wine suggestion was excellent. Otherwise, eat at a Soda or stop at a grocery store before entering Cahuita and cook in your home. Oh - Aroma is another great place. Avoid if very busy. Visit Jaguar Rehab Center, if possible. We felt safe here, and we thank Troy and his associates.

Great place to stay and see lots of wildlife. The grounds to the house are well kept and are full of flowers and trees.
Troy was very accommodating and helpful with any questions we had.
Close to the black sand beach and restaurants.
We would definitely stay again.

Troy's Place was everything we could ask for. The property was beautiful & serene. We could hear the ocean & wildlife while sitting on the porch. What can I say about our host, Troy is the epitome of what a host should be. He has a welcoming demeanor and a wealth of knowledge about the town and wildlife. We will definitely be staying at Troy's place the next time were in Costa Rica.

Troy was a great host, very kind and helpful. His place is a short walk from a beautiful and very much less traveled Playa Negra beach. There are 3 great bar/restaurants right there to enjoy. All within a sort walk. We loved our stay. Thanks again Troy from Troy!

We enjoyed our stay and it was nice to sit out on the porch and see all the different animals that visit the property. It was very relaxing and a short walk to restaurants and the beach. The “secret lagoon” was one of our favorites and spotted at least 8 sloths on the path.

Troy was a great host, his knowledge on the town and surrounding areas was incredible. He always made himself available for any questions. The yard has an abundant amount of wildlife and the house is a short walk from the beach and local restaurants. If you wanting a quiet relaxing time away from the busy city life, choose Troy's home.

We had an amazing stay at this location. Easily walkable to the beach and bars with live music, felt safe walking back to the place even at night. The owner was very quick to respond even when we had an issue late at night. Extremely helpful and wants you to have a great stay.
We’ll miss drinking that Costa Rican coffee on the balcony, very memorable stay.

A wonderful place to spend your vacation. A nice cottage with a great garden. The biodiversity in the garden is in no way inferior to that of the surrounding nature. The beach (Playa negra) is 100-200 meters away. The national park with its Playa Blanca is a bit further away...walkable but a car (or taxi) would be an advantage. As a host, Troy is very nice, helpful and, as a direct neighbor, is usually very close by when help is needed. Highly Recommended!

Peaceful tropical bungalow
We enjoyed this property and all the space of the yard is out all the flora and fauna. Easily walkable to the beach and reggae bar and convenient short drive or long walk to downtown Cahuita and the national park.

A little slice of heaven
What an amazing place for all those who love the jungle…the wildlife, the trees and flowers. There’s so much to take in that you need to stay awhile to enjoy the full experience. Live like the sloth and just take your time because there is absolutely no rush to do anything. Enjoy and Pura Vida!

our trip
Everything was just as advertised. Lots of animals in the yard plus many birds and cant forget the frogs. Troy is very attentive and takes care to enjoy your time there and makes sure there is nothing you need. The beach and a few quality restaurant/bars are a short 5 minute walk. If needing to see the town it is a short 25 to 30 minute walk. You can get a taxi back from town but it is a little difficult to get one from the property to town but the walk is well worth the time and effort. We saw a troop of monkeys one day while walking in plus the flora and fauna is always interesting.

Magical Experience
This property is amazing, and one of the best experiences we had in CR. The jungle sounds mixed with crashing waves in the background, early morning howler monkeys, poison dart little frogs, a neighbor agouti patrolling the yard, flocks of toucans flying by. My kids would run upstairs and just sit for hours with their binoculars looking at all the animals. I will never forget the look on their faces when we came back from dinner and seeing the grass filled with fire flies all around us. We loved the privacy and safety. Troy was a great host and was available to help with any issues. The only thing that I would suggest is to have stronger fans for the property, especially upstairs. Troy provided an extra fan and we were very comfortable downstairs but were not able to use the upstairs bedroom because it was too hot. Otherwise, looking forward to coming back!

Perfect place to stay in Cahuita!
This place is absolutely perfect! It’s a great location as it is a short walk to the ocean and only a 15 minute walk to town. There are restaurants and bars right down the road.
The landscaped yard is exquisite and provides the ultimate relaxation after a busy day exploring Cahuita. It’s private and you feel a little like a local with all the amenities you could need provided.
Troy is the owner of the house. He is the ultimate host and truly cares for his guests. He goes out of his way to make sure you have anything you need. He is readily available for communication and will answer any questions you may have.
I can’t recommend this home enough, and will definitely be back!

Lovely casita
What an adorable little casita with great flora and fauna viewing right from the porch. We saw a sloth, giant iguana, agoutis, parrots, Oro pendolos, and lots of frogs around the little pond out front. Troy has planted a gorgeous array of tropical plants that really gave us a private garden feel. Troy also had great recommendations for swimming spots, restaurants, etc. The short walk to the beach made it easy to come home mid-day for a siesta. I gave 5 stars for cleanliness based on the original conditions of the house, but the reality of life in a tropical open air environment is that a space cannot be maintained in an immaculate manner. Expectations should be set accordingly - pura vida!

Great House & Location
We had a wonderful time at Troy’s place in Cahuita. The house was clean and extremely close to the beach and restaurants. Troy responded quickly to questions and was super helpful when we couldn’t get our cell phones to work. I would definitely recommend this place :).

Comfortable house, well located, saw lots of wild life.
My adult daughter and I went on a "ladies only" vacation.Troy was great. He greeted us late at night, helped with our bags. He immediately made us comfortabe by assuring us that he was staying in the house next door. We alway felt safe.
Troy helped us spot lots of wildlife on the property.
We didn't have phone service, so Troy arranged for cabs driven by a woman!
Playa Negra is an easy walk. There are also 3 restaurants in easy walking distance.
The national park in town was a great experience with a guide.

Perfect Cahuita Beach getaway
The house was extremely clean and neat as a pin! The high quality linens and bath towels were much appreciated. The mattress was very comfortable. The grounds were large and beautifully landscaped and maintained. We felt very safe at this property. Troy was very helpful and kind. It was a short walk to the beach, restaurants and shopping. We are spending the month traveling Costa Rica for our honeymoon and this will be one our favorite vrbo’s.

A FABULOUS time in Paradise!
Staying at Troy’s was a fanatastic experience!!!! We are are bird and animal lovers and we experienced more wildlife around the property than in the whole of Cahuita! We saw monkeys, poison dart frogs, olingos, agoutis, over 40 species of birds, geckos, lizards, land crabs, and even a sloth right on the property! It was crazy! The house is conveniently located near town and in a very peaceful location. Troy is a great guy with great knowledge of the area and couldn’t be more helpful! He makes every effort to insure your time there is as wonderful as possible. Don’t stay anywhere else in Cahuita! Troy’s place is the BEST!!!
