Loved this place. Quiet street along the west shore of the mighty Hudson south of Haverstraw. Two bedrooms upstairs have stellar views of the river. The star of the house is the east facing deck outside. Had several meals on the deck and entertained some family there in the afternoons. Lots of blue jays and other bird kept us company.
Place could use a deep cleaning. Cupboards were a little dusty. Parking is a little tight but generally OK. Overall, a great place to stay. I’d love to come back.

The view of the Hudson (from many areas of the home, including the nice deck) is beautiful. It was obvious that a lot of love has gone into this home . It was comfortable and accommodating, having both up and downstairs sitting areas, and everything we needed. The hostess was very responsive.

The house sits in a small Haverstraw neighborhood called Dutch Town. The street ends in a beautiful bike/hike path along the Hutson River. We spent a lot of time on the deck with an amazing view of the river and boat traffic. The inside of the house is very comfortable and you can tell much about the owner's travels around the world from the interesting items that adorn the house. We learned a lot about the history of Haverstraw and sculpter James Tyler by visiting the Haverstraw Brick Museum. All in all, we enjoyed a pleasant and peaceful four days.

We enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was spot on with the description of the property. The host was very responsive with questions even though she was on the other side of the world vacationing. The property is beautiful and well lit with a cool walk down to the water and a hot tub in the middle of nature. The deck is beautiful. We hung out there a lot and watched great sunsets and sunrises. There’s lots of privacy.

Quiet/peaceful neighborhood, hidden away, relaxing with everything you need for an extended stay!

I enjoyed very much all the artwork, plants and many books in the home. It was very cozy and comfortable to stay in on a rainy day. We liked walking to the end of the street to the park in the mornings. I would definitely stay here again.

The home was very comfortable and was a pleasant stay. We stayed for 10 days, and it had all the amenities you would need for an extended vacation. Enjoyed the view from the deck, the hot tub and beach. The place is a great spot if you are wanting to go into New York City. There is a trail right down the street which is great for running and biking. We would stay there again when visiting New York.

We enjoyed our stay here- it was an eclectic house with lots to do. There were a few negatives, the house was close to the quarry (which smelled), the hot tub jets were weak, and we got bit up like crazy by something despite wearing bug spray, we think mites (possibly from hanging out on the deck at night?). But we felt like the house was fun and recommend it if you don't mind the negatives I mentioned. We did everything from canoeing in the Hudson, walking on the nearby trail, using the hot tub, cooking, and hanging on the deck. All the things we needed to stay for a week were there in the house. We loved the peach tree and the fresh herb garden too, its not too often you stay at VRBOs that have fresh/live plants.

The surrounding area is nothing to write home about, but the hot tub and views of the Hudson were why we booked, and that's exactly what we got. The host was lovely, and the property was very clean when we arrived. There are a lot of stairs, including down to the hot tub, so that's something to be aware of before booking. This location was a good hub for local day trips to Westchester County, Tarrytown, Stony Point Battlefield, Legoland, and Bear Mountain State Park. Harriman State Park is also nearby, as are the Nyacks and the Palisades Mall. The full kitchen had a full size refrigerator and freezer, and I'm really happy there was a dishwasher, as we ended up using lots of mugs sipping tea and looking out over the Hudson.

The home was well equipped with everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. The deck with the river view was our favorite place to sit enjoying coffee or a glass of wine. Nyack was very close by with shops and restaurants to enjoy.

Loved getting a break from the city and spending time in and near the Hudson River. The view was unforgetable!

The views from this property take your breath away. We really enjoyed sitting out on the back deck and watching the boats go by on the Hudson. It is close enough to New York City that we were able to take a few day trips. The hot tub was great at night under the stars but also nice in the morning as the sun rose. The hot tub is a flight of stairs down from the main deck. There are quite a few stairs to get down to the water area so be prepared to get a work out if you want to dip your toes in the river. The kids enjoyed playing by the water the most. The fire pit is by the water but we did not use it as it was too warm the week we stayed and we also didn't feel like dragging the supplies down. There is also a nature trail for walking or biking right down the street. We were a little surprised that there was an adjoining unit but it was still very private. We rarely saw anyone. I would recommend using open windows and the whole house fan at night instead of the air conditioner. It cooled the house off nicely with breezy fresh air. Our only complaint was the coffee maker was not automatic. We had to boil water and pour it into a filter over a coffee pot which is not convenient for avid coffee drinkers.

The River House is a unique heavenly retreat. The view was perfect, bed so comfortable with the Hudson outside the window and the home and location had everything we needed.
We felt so peaceful and happy being there. We will return!

Breathtaking views of the Hudson! Charming and beautiful home with phenomenal vistas from blissful bedrooms, incredible deck, Hot Tub and patio. An oasis with gorgeous flowers and trees. Wonderful fully stocked kitchen, comfy living room. Steps away from 5 mi. biking/hiking trail along river to Nyack. This home is a knock-out! Owner is a pleasure to work with. We can't wait to return!

The RiverHouse was exactly what we needed- an escape from the city that was only a short distance away from the city, yet felt like we had been transported to a whole new place world. The house is cozy and homey, right on the Hudson so you get amazing views from every room. The kitchen had all the accoutrements we needed to cook up some nice meals all weekend, from pots and pans to spices. The hot tub was awesome (and still turned on although it’s mid-winter) and looks over the Hudson.
We actually never left the house after getting groceries, so I can’t speak to the town itself but the house is definitely in a safe and quaint neighborhood.
Rent this home if you’re looking for a relaxing weekend, access to nature and some peace and quiet.
Warning: there are a lot of stairs around the house/down to the hot tub and river so this isn’t the perfect fit for someone less mobile!

Beautiful views, and the house had everything you could need! Great, peaceful location on the river, loved the trailhead being so close by. The only downfall is that we couldnt use the indoor fireplaces, but otherwise terrific & would rent again! thank you!

We loved our stay at the River House - the house is very nicely decorated, comfortable and I enjoyed Joan's art very much. The landlady Joan is super helpful and gave us many tips. The view is absolutely wonderful and one can go for long walks in beautiful nature. We hope to be back!

The house was absolutely beautiful and surrounded by such incredible views. From the comfy beds and living space, to the completely perfect kitchen AND the grill and hot tub, we couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. Thank you Joan for a wonderful vacation

My wife and I are in our mid-60's. We live in the middle of a forest in Northwest Wisconsin on a lake on 4 acres surrounded by thousands of acres of pine forest with no neighbors. We wanted to visit our daughter who lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. We have visited the area before, and I had attended school at Yale in New Haven Conn, but had never ventured away from the East Coast Metro Area.
We were amazed an excited to find this gem only 45 miles from New York, overlooking the Hudson, and providing us with privacy and a quiet, peaceful setting.
Sitting in the hot tub and watching the ships and boats sail up and down the Hudson River was phenomenal!
The Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain only a short beautiful drive away was another unexpected treat, as my family loves hiking and exploring nature away from the intensity of the city life.
If you are like us, and apprciate this kind of vacation then don't wait - book now as the leaves are changing and more beauty awaits for those that want this kind of experience.
The accomodations were quaint, clean, and cozy with all the amenities that anyone could want.
We hope to be back in the very near future to spend more quality time with our family.
Thank you Joan for a very memorable vacation.

Great home, great location and great place for us to relax at after a long week in the Big City. Homeowners have created a wonderful environment in the home (+ beach house bungalow) and the backdrop of the Hudson River is a spectacular view anytime of day. Conveniently located to explore the outdoors and the small towns throughout the valley.

Beautiful views, in the morning you can see the sunrise from the bedroom windows as well as from the deck. The hot tub is fantastic and we absolutely loved the fire place by the water! A perfect spot to relax and recharge. We didnt even go out much because the house itself was so beautiful. I wish I would have booked a couple more days. I am definitely planning to go back again :)

My friend and I stayed several nights to work on a project, but the house can easily sleep more. The view is spectacular and the hoouse takes full advanatge of the view. The homeowner is a visual artist and her artistry is present in every room. Great hot tub. Great boat house.

Wonderful place. Joan was soo nice and welcoming. She has a lovely clean home with a marvelous view. My room was the master it was cozy, warm and the view has no words you must see it for yourself. The small accents of the house are spectacular! Especially the by the boat house. But I must say be perpared to walk up some stairs.... But the greatest thing is the art all around!
I grilled and used the kitchen it has everything you need Including a gas grill on the deck. The Hot tub was nice in the morning with the sun coming up. I brought my own bike but actually hiked the bike trail and found waterfalls, beaches and all kind of lovely treasures. We would definitely go back.

The house was a great place to stay for our family! Plenty of space to sleep 5-6 people, and the hot tub was fantastic! It was very clean, and we loved the smaller riverfront house by the water with the fire pit. Would definitely come back again!

This property was perfect for our weekend escape from the city with its sweeping water views and fabulous amenities. We were two couples and the space worked exceptionally well for the four of us. Both bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with river views. The living room was cosy and great for our card games. We also loved the generous balcony and walking down the private path to the water and beach hut. It is very well located - we drove north along the river to visit wineries and farms and across the river to visit Sleepy Hollow and a string of other sweet little towns. Jim and Joan were amazing, very accomodating and a breeze to communicate with. We will be highly recommending to our NYC friends!

We had a wonderful weekend, visiting our daughter, a Coast Guard exchange student, attending West Point for Fall semester. The house was exactly as pictured and it had everything we needed. The home was very clean and well equipped. All we needed were our groceries and we were set for the weekend. Although only 20 miles from West Point, it is a good 30-35 min drive, but the road along the river was a beautiful drive. Thank you your home was perfect for our weekend. We only wish we had more time to enjoy everything your home provided- bikes, kayak, hot tub, hiking trail. We had a campfire by the beach and roasted marshmallows, toured the Hudson Valley and spent time at West Point. Thank you!

We had the pleasure of staying at the Riverhouse for 1 week. We visited from Florida to attend a Family Reunion on one side and a Family Wedding on the other- during a 2 week stay in Rockland. This house was so convenient to our families & friends living in various parts of the county.
But one of our greatest pleasure was to have breakfast and see that magnificent view of the Hudson.
Thanks Joan for making this visit so comfortable and enjoyable.

The house was clean & nice, had everything you might need.
It has a nice view to Hudson River.
We could enjoy kyack & swimming at our own small beach.
Greatest thing was that we could relax in hot jacuzzi after swimming.
We hope to come back this beautiful house in the future.
Thanks to owner.

Tiny & cute little house for a real family vacation. In the morning you wake up with sunshine on your face and a waterside view. Breakfast on your own terrace and, if you want to, a short walk downstairs to your private small "beach" at the Hudson River. It was a relaxed, intimate and cosy stay at your house... AND an absolute opposite side to our visits in NYC - such a great city, burning life, attractions and an uncountable mass of impressions. After a day in NYC it was the best "coming-down-moment", arriving in your home again. We want to thank you for your warm welcome and support (and we don't forget the little "garden" across the streets, where we could get tomatoes, spinach, herbs etc. for free. Our children (10 and 15) loved the jacuzzi and rowing the boat and the swimming in the Hudson River.
We hope to get the chance coming back again

We had a wonderful stay at Joan and Jims beautiful river house. Having driven down from Montreal it was great to have the personal touch of Joan greeting us and showing us around. A couple with a 17 month year old toddler, we chose to base ourselves here to explore Manhattan as we thought hotels and rental apartments in the city wouldnt suit our needs, and our decision was a good one. The journey into Grand Centre by ferry and train was straight forward and felt like an adventure, and on days off the house was perfect for relaxing in. We loved the deck with its superlative views of the Hudson, the trails down the Garden to the shore and beach house, and the hot tub, which soothed our city-weary limbs and spirits! There is also a lovely trail at the end of the street for walks. The house is comfort able and beautifully furnished with a 4 poster bed in the main bedroom. We loved the art works around the house and the rich and varied book collection. The street is also quite quirky and interesting. All in all we loved this place and have already recommended it to friends and family.

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend at this house to celebrate our anniversary. We could not have asked for a better location and house! The house was spacious, clean, and functional with many great surprises including a hot tub, fabulous views, a small river shack, and a state park within walking distance. We even found great local restaurants only a couple minutes away! We only wish the weather was warmer so that we could have fully enjoyed the outside activities. We cannot wait to return during the summer months. Thank you Joan for sharing your wonderful house with us!

It was dark when we arrived so we didn't fully appreciate the lovely view until the next morning. There are steps leading down to the water's edge where we enjoyed hot chocolate around a fire one evening. The hot tub was so relaxing and there's a great selection of books for perusing. We enjoyed the shops and restaurants in the nearby Nyack area and an Old World Market where we picked up groceries and yummy desserts. Great bicycle trail nearby; one caveat however. Although there are bicycles available for guest use, they have skinny tires and are suitable for road use only. Don't take them on the trail, bring your own. Hyde Park-on-Hudson not far away made a wonderful day trip. Would definitely stay again if we were in the area.
