Former residence of a famous medical doctor who ambitioned himself to build in Amsterdam a Grand Hotel like in London or Paris, superbly designed and positioned right on the Amstel river, owning their own fleet of historic rare salon boats, the staff takes great pleasure in serving with dignity and efficency. Food is to remember. Nice spa and pool. All the prominent people have stayed and are staying here.

Very little We were paying 900 euros for a room that was in need of paint. It was so noisy although I requested a quiet room in writing that we did not sleep until 2.30AM on first night when traffic died down. The linen was shabby and the curtains badly stained. When we moved rooms it was quieter but the linen was old and the duvet was so old with holes in it and I requested a down one but was brought another shabby duvet. The care received from the staff was variable between excellent and inexperienced and sullen.

Clearly the room we booked was at the highest price as it was when the Vermeer website went up. By the time we arrived the exhibition was almost closing and the room was advertised at 200 euros less. Surely we should have been offered an upgrade especially when we had to change rooms due to the noise. ln fact the senior receptionist offered me a complimentary taxi to the museum and only when I protested did she give us a 30 % allowance on the first night only. It was my husband's 86 birthday who was accompanying my work trip and it was a complete failure.

Location and the tram availability were exceptional. Very easy to get around the city. Breakfast was very good and the staff was very friendly. Would recommend this hotel to family and friends.

This was a very special stay. We stayed in Room 410 - what we reckoned must be the best room in the hotel, and it felt like we were on top of the world - views to die for, a balcony, 2 fabulous bathrooms, and an enormous bed. The spa was amazing, and very quiet during our stay. Lydia, our masseuse, was great. We thought the service at the Amstel was excellent. We would love to return.

wow I have to congratulate the staff! everyone is very polite and smiling and they want you to feel at your best. The breakfast was very good also. the location is not in the middle of downtown, where there is a lot of noise. it is in very quiet area that is 10 mins away from downtown by metro. extremely elegant vibe. 10/10

spots, stains …. and minor decay details in my room. The hotel needs a general maintenance.. I wouldn’t consider it a 5 star luxury hotel

hotel itself is just like a palace. staff is amazingly kind and attentive. best hotel i ever stay. delicious breakfast with a great canal view. so elegant and super luxurious
