This is my go-to when I am in Guatemala. I loved every second of my stay - the food, the location and the service are superb!

It's right on the beach and there is a beautiful view of the ocean from most of the rooms. The pool is clean and feels good in the heat. The breakfast was delicious and the drinks were good too.
This place costs a lot for what you get. Some of the rooms don't have air conditioning and the drains in the showers are often backed up.

location south of main town area nice. quieter. lovely beach in front
pool probably good for kids but not comfortable sitting around it’s raised edge.
Map: they did NOT send any info in how to find the place and the link on Booking and in google maps etc is in a completely different part of town. Had to call for directions. The real location is labeled Hotel Marbella.
Room: paid more for a triple sea view room (space and light and view) and turned out to be back room with peek a boo to the side view and NOT what I paid extra for.
Food: pleasant staff but not great food and waay overpriced for quality - much better to walk the 5-10 minutes up beach and eat elsewhere where quality & price better. Charged extra for second cup coffee!! Really, after the room price that’s an insult.
WiFi: they turn it OFF at night! Why would any place do that?
Propina charge: I really dislike this trend to automatically add 10% tip to the food and service bill. They don’t ask if the service deserved it - and thus it becomes another tax that goes right to the owner. I would much prefer to directly reward the workers for good service. I think we should all buck the trend, refuse to pay the “propina” and give a tip directly to the staff.

Friendly, family-run hotel right on the beach

The setting of this hotel is great. We had a ground floor room with the pool, ocean and private beach just steps away. There is an open-air restaurant in the hotel with beautiful beach views, and decent food. Actually, the paella was excellent.
We felt the atmosphere could have been warmer and more welcoming, as we were asked to turn off all lights and air conditioning whenever we left the room. It also seemed strange to have staff knock on the door to encourage us to come up for our meals so they could take their breaks, while the restaurant hours were unclear and inconsistent with the signage as well as verbal information from different sources.
This hotel could be maintained better. There were multiple plumbing issues in our first room, which management was unable to rectify and eventually led to a change in room. The view from the windows could have been nice, except that the windows were dirty. We would have opened them but there were large holes in the screens. On the second of our two nights there, a storm knocked out the power, so we woke up to no water, no lights and no air conditioning and had to pack up and go back to the city unwashed and feeling hot and uncomfortable. Of course, the storm was not the fault of the owners, but we had the impression the loss of power is fairly common. In this type of environment an emergency generator would go a long way to keeping guests comfortable. It's a shame because this place has a lot of great potential.

Excellent hosts and staff! Very friendly and accommodating. Great conversation with the host and guidance as to environment-focused activities to do and trustworthy and knowledgeable local guides.
Garden and structures built within the palm trees beautiful and relaxing with sound of waves. Art on walls everywhere.
Good, traditional Guatemalan breakfast.
Nice candle-lit restaurant and room during power outage.
Electricity out for 1st 24 hours, leading to no water in bathroom. No wifi during power outage. Uncommon for this to happen for so many hours, the hosts told us. Also, didn't find hot water in shower. We'd expect hot water with the price of the room. Strong smell in bathroom at times, perhaps coming up through the drains?

I loved the food, the location and the hosts very much.

The location is perfect, right on what is practically a private beach. There is a lot of lovely foliage, and the views are spectacular. The poop was also ideal, allowing swimming and also just sitting on the side in the water with a book. Food quality was good. lovely balcony.
It was way overpriced, rundown and cobbled together. There were three of us in this room, that was barely big enough for two, with absolutely nowhere to fit our bags and clothes and a glass door separating the bathroom and the bedroom - awkward. The air conditioning was right over a bed, which meant that one person was freezing all the time. The service was bad, we waited over an hour or more for every meal, and had to chase up problems with the AC and toilet multiple times.

it was supposed to be eco hotel. No how water. Small, uncomfortable room

The owners were exceptionally friendly and looked after us. The hotel is a little away from the center of Monterrico, not a bad thing, and has a beautiful beach view, multiple places to sit and eat or enjoy the view, and a great pool the kids really enjoyed.
