The fact that the hotel was empty. The village and the area is lovely. The cafe called La Abadia scores five stars in my book.

That the owner was so rude to us when we arrived. She had a family member she needed to get to the bus station and she spared nothing in letting us know what an inconvenience we were. The hotel smelt of sewage. I suspect when the building is closed the pipes dry out and the air from the sewer seeps into the rooms? The coffee machine in the lounge didn't work - there were no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. There was no separate kettle in the lounge. This really was a 'bed and that's it' sort of place. The only thing saving it is the location.

The location was very good for exploring Briones and wineries in the area

The room was on the ground level which was very noisy. Had only one window that could open. There was no proper hanging cupboard. The pillows were terrible. Although it is a hotel, there is no reception

No air conditioning but still good value.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Calaos and would recommend it 100%. Just a short walk to the village square with bars / tapas available and the locals were welcoming. The prices here are really reasonable, especially if you like a glass or two of the local delicious Rioja. In all - highly recommended

Difficult to find in a small town / village. Only one sign which was only 50 meters from the property. So it was a problem for us riding a motorcycle.

Worse mattress ever. I had to sleep in the floor. It was really hot and shower just have hot water, When we arrived we had to wait like 15 minutes as it was nobody in reception and you are supposed to call them but we did not have a Spanish phone.
