The calm and the landscape.

Wonderful tour of the history of the house and property when we arrived. That this house has stayed in the same family for so long is amazing in itself. We really enjoyed out stay.

This is a magical place with so much history, and José and Kasia really welcome you in. We arrived just after their pony had given birth and were able to meet the sweet foal...! José gave us a full tour of the gardens and we abandoned our plans of eating dinner in town, so we could watch the sunset from one of the terraces. Our room was one of the modern extension cottages, and it was just beautiful, with a view of the sea. We also met people walking the Camino, who were able to stay there at a special pilgrim's rate, a very cool tradition. Breakfast was served outside in the sun and was delicious. We only stayed for one night so didn't have time to avail of the saltwater pool and nearby beaches, but we hiked up to the navigator's cross on the hill at sunrise and got a stunning view. We will definitely be back.
The central heating in the cottage was almost too good. We couldn't figure out how to turn it off so slept with windows open and heating on, which felt a bit wasteful, but if we had been staying longer I would have asked about it.

The Quinta is amazing! Lovely hosts, a huge garden, and a royal but cozy atmosphere. We ordered dinner there and it was so special!

Very friendly and knowledgeable host. Very interesting estate.
The room is a bit on the cold side. Rugs would be good. Sockets can be at better locations.

This is a gem of a stay. It is very tastefully decorated with antique and modern furnishings. It is rare to stay in a place with so much history, some of the buildings dating back to the 16th century through to modern times. If you pay for the optional meal hosted in the main house it is a real treat. There is an outdoor swimming pool and sun beds although the flies can be tiresome. The owners try very hard and succeed in producing a lovely breakfast. There is an Intermarche supermarket just 15 mins walk away open daily for all your needs.
The cottage we stayed in had a very strong musty smell which was a little off-putting although we didn’t find any signs of damp. There is no TV or microwave but these are not essential in such lovely surroundings.

Great location - ideal for families. The owners and their kids are incredible hosts. Great hikes right outside the front gate and numerous beautiful beaches only a short car ride away. Can't rate this place highly enough.

Peaceful decadent beauty with delightful hosts. Good breakfast and fascinating tour of the garden by Jose
Nothing of note maybe little niggles only

The property and its history are amazing. The family who were our hosts were very nice and welcoming. A lovely place to relax and get away. Easy walk to the most beautiful natural beach I've ever seen (not for swimming so much as exploring tidal pools).
On our last night, biting flies got to us when we were sleeping. Maybe screens in the bedroom windows would help?

The greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Everything was fantastic, we truly recommend a stay at this magical place, every corner has a magic that feels in the air. The breakfast is fantastic and the dinner prepared by Kasia, delicious.

The room is spacious, the balcony is great, and the wi-fi signal is outstanding. The hosts were extremely polite and their dog was super friendly with our dog. Also, the Quinta is near supermarkets, pharmacies, the beach and a cascade.
Unfortunately, we couldn't sleep well in three days we were there due to the bed being uncomfortable for us (one of the biggest issues we had). We do understand this is a personal taste and don't blame the owners. Also, I felt like they could keep the gardens and the yard better, as there's a lot of moss on the passage way, and overall, it looks quite messy. I expected more from the rooms. The sheets were clean, but the covers didn't feel as clean (the duvet was yellowish). The shower seemed amazing, but low water pressure and we didn't get any hot water, it was lukewarm. I would've enjoyed a better breakfast also, as we were only 1 of the two couples there. Maybe scrambled eggs and fresh juice. This was not a cheap stay, so expectations were high but reasonable.

A charming Quinta with an interesting history relating to The Camino de Santiago and early Portuguese trading in Asia and the Far East. A beautiful estate which the friendly and amiable owners encourage you explore and enjoy. It is very peaceful yet within easy reach of Viana do Castelo, the wonderful beaches of the north and further east to Peneda-Geres national park if you wish. We booked this place because obviously it looked great but also because of its location as a base to explore this region. However we found ourselves spending more time at the Quinta than we expected as it was so charming. There’s lots to discover and enjoy within the grounds as well as the immediate surroundings - beautiful bathing pools, waterfalls and walks in the adjacent hills…Some reviews have commented on the gardens maybe being a little wild and unkempt but I think this just adds to the charm and appeal of Quinta da Boa Viagem. If you want pristine, manicured lawns etc..then maybe this isn’t the place, if it was you’d pay an awful lot more! And it probably wouldn’t be as magical! We loved it here and the wildness in part has benefitted and preserved the local wildlife and probably this intriguing little part of Portuguese history and culture.

This is a very special place to stay in a rural setting, close to the North beach. José, the owner, gave my husband a potted history of the 16th century villa that was visited by a Portuguese king en route to Santiago de Compostela & 2 of the lion statues that came from a Japanese emperor (I believe). It clearly once belonged to Portuguese nobility or some such family. The setting has a wonderful peaceful atmosphere and faded grandeur and the kids loved exploring the absolutely huge (if somewhat neglected) gardens. The gardens also have an outdoor swimming pool for guests' use. The breakfast with freshly baked delicious rustic bread outside on the terrace with wonderful views was excellent (but rampant carnivores beware, it's vegetarian). The 2-bed cottage was very clean with comfortable beds and well-appointed with a kitchen facilities for those who would also like to prepare their own meals (breakfast is included and meals available on request). No TV on purpose as the owners would prefer you enjoy the nature outside. I would definitely stay again.
The gardens are no longer manicured. This may be by design if (as I suspect) the owners prefer nature to take it's course, but couldn't help imagine how stunning they would have looked when maintained. I'm vegetarian so was delighted with the breakfast but meat eaters may wish to bring their own meats to add to the continental breakfast!

We stayed with 2 kids (4-8) and we loved it, very comfortable apartment with great beds, great host, great breakfast. We liked to be near to the beach (10 mins by car) and close to the woods and small streams. There is a nice pool and the kids played a lot in the garden and joined spaces. The host helped us with many things and made sure our stay was as pleasant as possible. Thank you for everything!
