Eric was a great host who was helpful and transparent in accommodating not only our large group staying in the house, but single day guests visiting for the afternoon. He was up front about all costs, security deposits, and requests for keeping this classic home in ship-shape.
The house itself is enormous and slept 21 of us with ease. It also provided ample room to eat, sleep, play, or lounge. We loved having the pool separated from the main home with a large pool-house nearby as an additional bathroom, kitchen, and dining area.
Any downsides to the home are again very transparently laid out in the description. Yes, it is almost 250 years old, so it's a bit creaky with some broken doorknobs or screens, but for the most part we found the charm of the history of the house outweighed those minor issues. Yes, there are some pests. We killed a few spiders and found some gross stuff in the closed hot tub (the other one worked fine). We also got some mosquito bites, but bug spray solved most of our problems the second day.
All in all, we really enjoyed ourselves here and definitely plan to come back in the future. Part of it is that the house itself is great for large groups. The other part is a host who is accommodating and up front about expectations. Appreciate the stay, Eric!

This place rocks! Our family gathered for my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary, 9 adults, 8 teens and teens. All age groups loved the place. The grounds are impressive and vast. The house is old, like the description says, but it has character and a lot of space both inside and out. Multiple cooking areas, so no problem making meals for large groups.
The owner was diligent in answering questions before we arrived, and there was an onsite property manager to answer questions and make minor repairs when needed.
All family members said we would rent this place again.

Loved our stay, the pool area was awesome- lots of supplies and amenities. Highly recommend.

It was an enjoyable stay for my entire family of 25 people. We ran out of rooms and had to make do but it all worked out. We had 21 adults and 4 kids (6-8). It was a spacious house with an open dining room area, leading into the big living room which contained a bar. The pool was a bit dirty and was cleaned after 2 days of already staying there. The pool received a lot of leaves and debris from the trees so I understand that it will naturally happen. I guess the pool maintenance is on certain days. There was no firewood next to the fire pit so that was a negative. I was told to go to another location on the property for the firewood, which was damp and dried out. Check in was an issue because my last four digits from my phone number were not uploaded before arrival. We waited a half an hour outside waiting for Geoff to call us back. He gave us a new code. While the stay was great, and everything worked out, it bugged me a bit that no one was available to help us when we tried to check in at the designated time. That would be the time that someone should be readily available to help. Other than that, it’s a nice place, big grounds, big pool, and fun amenities. It was solid communication before check in and and during the stay. So I kept the star rating higher. Just keep in kind, any additional guests over a certain number, you have to pay extra, and you can only have 8 cars in the driveway so as to not block the other residence on the property.

We had a great stay. The house is well maintained and was big enough to allow 9 adults and 1 toddler enough space to retreat from one another.

We had a great stay in this quirky old house. There was a ton of room and the property was beautiful. The property manager was responsive and helpful, we would love to stay here again. Thanks!

We stayed at the house Thurs-Sun and had a memorial get together on Friday after burying our mother at the Washington Crossing Cemetery. The house was perfect for what we needed. The grounds were beautiful and everything was great. Such an historical house with character, we were so happy to find it on vrbo! Peter

This was the perfect venue for us. It was so spacious that our extended family actually did not use at least 1/3 of the space. There are large living areas where we could all gather together and eat together. And then there were very spacious private places where we could be by ourselves outside of earshot of everyone else. The huge windowed walls of the main gathering room gave us a panoramic view onto the beautiful property with water and bridges everywhere we looked. We saw large fish, deer families, and a beautiful soaring blue heron who landed close enough to intrigue our toddlers.

The listing was what we expected. It was very fun, and the host was communicative and helpful. We’d definitely go back.

This was an amazing place for a large family reunion! We all came to this Trenton home from several states and just fell in love with the home. So much history to explore. We were given a full tour upon arrival, and the owner, who was so helpful and couldn't have been nicer, checked in with us throughout our stay. Each room in the house has its own unique personality, and the place plenty of bathrooms, big open spaces and beds to spare. We loved the long table off the kitchen that could accommodate all of us to regroup for meals. There was so much to do there with games, big screen TVs, 2 full kitchens, tennis and basketballs courts, pools, hot tubs, several boats, fire pit, large pool house, library, bicycles and hiking. We had big plans to tour Philadelphia and Trenton, but honestly, we were having so much fun at the house we didn't want to go anywhere else. We would come back in a heartbeat and recommend it to anyone looking for a lovely, historic place to stay that has it all. Many thanks to Eric and his team for making this such a memorable visit.

The location is as advertised - an older home with lots of space and great amenities. We loved having the pool, hot tub, grill, ample kitchen space and beds that allowed for this to be a great place to spend the day with friends and also a great home base before and after a day out.

Me and my group had a great time at boxwood. There was plenty of space and things to do. The house was well stocked and had a lot of charm to it. Would highly recommend to large families like ours.

My mom and my aunt get all of us together every two years. In our group we were ages 2 to 91! We all had a wonderful time at this amazing property. It is well worth exploring all of this home’s many features and personalities. Many of us especially enjoyed the pool. We were lucky to have great weather. Perhaps the best part of our visit was our time at the ‘informal’ dinning room table (and the outdoor table, too). Extra chairs allowed us to sit together, to linger over meals, to chat over breakfast and hang out with our coffee or wine. The house blends history with the modern world. It is an experience. “A great place for Hide-and-Seek,” said the 4-year-old. The giant TV and spacious TV room became a wonderful theater for a few of us to present our photos and recent global travels. There is a cute old mill next door, too….! Access to the (20 mile!?) towpath trail along the canal should not be forgotten. And a tennis court! Our group took advantage of it all. The giant turtle in the pond was yet another highlight. There is much to do here, including paddle boating in the pond. Thank you for sharing your home with us. We had a very fun and memorable time together!

It was fine. The big tv did not work. The outside entrance toward the pool needs a railing. Fell onto the cement. The toilet on second floor needs service, to strength it.

Beautful facilities with all the amenities for an active teenage group. We took advantage of all that was available: paddleboats, tennis court, basketball, pool and sauna. Best of all, they all had their own bed rooms...7 boys...to hook up the individual game consoles. Kitchen and dining areas were fully stocked with all necessities. We were able to have a movie night with popcorn and smores. Overall it was an experience they all will remember. Thanks to our gracious host, Eric and Greg, maintenance, for checking on us and making sure all was ok. We would gladly return and highly recommend this property for all.

This property is largely neglected. Many things did not work or were not clean. Several people that were to stay with us opted for the Holiday Inn, instead. The property, too, has several other tenants in poorly kept apartments. Further, there are random old boats, a punching bag, and other random assorted items. It is very close to the road, as well. The property manager, Jeff, was excellent and responsive. The pool section is nice and it will be an enjoyable stay if the weather is nice. In general though, I this property is poorly kemp and dirty. The grill (from pre 2000's) was dirty as were cups etc. I would not recommend this property.

My stay at Eric's Boxwood home was fantastic and enjoyable for my all of the guests that attended. We completely utilized all of the unique amenities that came with this property, including the pool, hot tub, tennis courts, and outdoor space.
The house comes with so much history and it was intriguing to experience all of that with the decorations and furnishing. We also enjoyed the modern touches such as the well designed family room with a large 85" TV.
The kitchen was very well stocked, and having two fridges was a huge pro for my family.
Minor nitpick on the photos in the listing - There is 1 bedroom on the 2nd floor (entrance from the secret staircase) that's not part of the listing photos, and 1 bedroom on the 3rd floor where the single photo doesn't really show it off well. However, the host immediately clarified these bedrooms existed so it was not any problem for me.

Great house. Fully stocked! Wonderful towpath, tennis courts and lake. The kitchen was perfectly organized for us to cook together and enjoy family time. Beautiful art and interesting artifacts everywhere! The big room was the best hangout spot and the one crawling baby learned to master that one step like a champ! It was grand!!

We visited our sons going to school locally and love the space and house location. Very convenient to great restaurants and the property manager was there to greet us and show us the house. Thank you!

We needed a large home to accommodate us with our multigenerational family, and Eric's home was perfect for that. Lots of beds, large dining table(s), comfy, cozy great room to hang out, and convenient to Yardley, PA, where my sister hosted dinner. The history of the original part of the house is very interesting, and having grown up in historic homes, I loved the creak of the floors and enjoyed the beauty on the architecture. We will definitely stay here again when in town with the family.

This was the perfect house for our family to stay. We had guests come in for our daughters wedding so they were all able to stay together in one amazing place. Everyone had such a great time beginning together. The property is beautiful. We would definitly rent again!

My wife and I were getting married in Bucks County PA which was right over the bridge and less than 15 minutes away for the property. This was the perfect stay for us and our wedding party. Very spacious, many rooms, ample parking, and to top it off it was a beautiful property. Very glad we were able to find this. Eric and the property manager were great. Didn’t encounter any issue. Would book all over again!

Fantastic property with historical house and vast grounds including a spectacular heated pool and pavilion. All better than advertised including large comfortable bedrooms and indoor gathering places. We celebrated the 100th year of our mother’s life during the weekend and she was thrilled by the venue. Eric, the owner, was a pleasure to deal with and surprised us by taking care of dinner on the first night. He is definitely a class act. In addition Geoff’s help on the scene was absolutely invaluable to the success of all aspects of our stay, but particularly in relation to the event for our mother. I highly recommend this property - especially for special family time.

Our family had a good stay at this nice home- plenty of space to spread out, and enjoy time together outside and inside. The location was particularly good for us- near extended family, and Lambertville, Princeton, Trenton etc. The owner was responsive, and the team looking after the house were helpful.

Boxwood is lovely. The house is huge, the beds are comfortable, the towels are plentiful, and the kitchen is well-equipped. The grounds are spacious and beautiful. Having a pool with floats and towels and a tennis court with racquets was terrific. The big screen TV was perfect for watching an afternoon soccer match. A washer and dryer allowed some to do a quick load of laundry before heading to other destinations. The history of the house and its inhabitants is fascinating.
There were some issues: a clogged toilet upon arrival was fixed by a plumber the evening we arrived. Unfortunately, we had to clean the bathroom after the repair. One shower didn’t drain well; another lacked a curtain. Bugs appeared in one bedroom and bathroom, perhaps to be expected in hot and muggy August in New Jersey. The house is jammed with personal memorabilia. That seemed odd in a rental property though it offered a distraction from our own gathering. All the stuff made it difficult to use some rooms.
More troublesome was the misunderstanding about who could use the house during our stay. We assumed family members staying elsewhere could stop by, but we were told after we booked that would entail an additional charge per outside guest per day, AND those visitors couldn’t enter the house. The listing didn’t differentiate between overnight guests and visitors who showed up briefly, and it wasn’t clear about the restrictions.
Do consider booking Boxwood if your family needs a sprawling place to gather. Just read the listing carefully, and ask plenty of questions in advance.

My group arrived and we were greeted promptly. We enjoyed our stay and the property had so much to offer! We did have a hard time getting responses from the property manager but the property owner was quick to jump in and respond quickly. There are other tenants living on the property and I think we were expecting a more secluded pool/lake. Overall, it was a fantastic place with lots of character and I would definitely stay again.

The house was very comfortable and accomedating for a large group with many spaces to gather. The grounds, especially the swimming pool, were helpful in keeping children entertained. The house was well equipped with sheets and towels and other amenities. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. The location was convenient to several places we went. The best feature during the heat wave was the air conditioning.

historic spot with plenty of room and lots to offer
We stayed at the property with a group of friends and enjoyed the pool and grounds thoroughly. It was a unique stay with lots to offer close to the city. The property and house are spacious.

Just saying
The place is amazing and relaxing we were only company of 3 so we did not need much, however just saying since it is not mentioned the house is right on a main rd so the noise from trucks train and traffic never stops, also while sitting out the first night noticed cameras everywhere so we felt a little weird, again it might be for emergency reasons but you can never be your self like you would like since someone always watching. Also there is a family living in the house and when the place gets booked they move to the house next door so you really not in private as described. We wanted to do some laundry and when we open the dryer there were cloths in it so we decided not to use it still had a great time since all i wanted was a pool for few days, would i come here again? For sure not.

A Spacious Historic House
I stayed with two friends and family at the property for a college reunion. The pool saved us when the heat index hit 100 degrees. The property is clean and well-kept. Some in our party did not have cars and I would recommend a car if you stay at the property. The property is an oasis in the middle of a densely populated area. As an 18th century house, the layout is unique and I would also recommend looking at the bedroom layout if you plan for a large group. The history of the American Revolution is at the doorstep of the property if you have forgotten the details of Washington’s crossing of the Delaware.

A fantastic family weekend, we'll be back
We had a fantastic weekend at Boxwood. It was a great place for a gathering of our extended family of 10, ages 8 to 70. I’ve never rented a property with such a huge family room and dining area with a beautiful view to the pond and backyard. Plenty of space inside and outside for us to spread out and to come together.
We couldn’t have picked a better place for our active family. Several brought bikes for a long ride along the canal path that runs behind the property while others used the bikes that were available here. The joggers found it to be a terrific jogging path. The tennis court could use resurfacing but we still enjoyed knocking around some balls each day. Other than a drive to New Hope and Lambertville one day and grocery runs, we barely left “home.”
The kitchen in the house isn’t big but it opens to a big dining area with one long farmhouse table. The chefs in the family were glad to find so much refrigerator space and another kitchen at the pool house. We visited in early spring so the pool wasn’t open (the Jacuzzi was), but we were able to grill at the pool area, a beautiful private setting. Everyone wants to return in summer when the pool is open. Plain but comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms. Really spacious home and property.
Eric the owner answered our questions promptly before we decided to rent and later told us about the Boxwood’s fascinating history (1775!). Jeff the caretaker was very friendly and helpful.
Thanks. We’ll be back! 5 stars.
