Overall impression of this property was that we didn’t stay long enough to enjoy all it has to offer. The amount of kitchen supplies and other small necessities you would have never thought to bring, they had there for you. The lock for the cabin is very user friendly. The lighting is a little tricky but you get used to it. We did have to make 2 beds upstairs (queens) upon our arrival [all the bedding was there, just not made]. There is only 1 TV in the cabin and is upstairs in back room. Wish they had one in the main living space for background/ games or movies. This cabin will be a repeat booking cabin for a few of the ladies in the group with their families. We may turn this into our annual weekend away. Short drive to multiple locations. Our longest drive was 30 minutes and that was to the Wine Tour Trolley.

A lovely stay in a beautiful home. We had a great weekend and enjoyed the fire pit at both the house and the beach each night! The kitchen was completely stocked with any kitchenware needed to make dinners and breakfasts together for our group. Great place to hang out as a family in between seeing many beautiful sights in Door County.

Wonderful warm and cozy place for a reunion. Well-equipped kitchen, lovely screened porch, access to rocky beach, and welcome solitude. Hosts are great communicators.

We had a great time at The Refuge. The house was beautifully secluded in woods and wildflowers. The property's private access to the lake just down the road from the house offered an awesome spot to sit and watch the water and the moonrise. The house was very spacious, the kitchen well stocked, and dining on the back enclosed porch pretty darn magical. Also appreciated the quality mattresses.

This home is beautiful, surrounded by trees, birds and everything green. Inside is wood and you truly feel in nature. All needs are met in terms of kitchen items, furniture is comfortable and you can choose to eat inside or in enclosed porch. We loved our stay and highly recommend The only tricky part is finding path to beacbeach, but there is a map! Enjoy!

Loved our stay. It's such a cozy home in a very quiet location, yet a short, beautiful drive to downtown Sister Bay. As a serious cook, I thought the kitchen was very well equipped, I always travel with my knife though. Charming touches throughout, and really loved the window over the kitchen sink that let in so many sounds of nature, and the great sunroom. Tons of space for the kids upstairs. The owners, Gary & Kitty, communicated wonderfully. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us.

One of our best stays in Door County ever--beautiful home with every thoughtful amenity provided. Even though Memorial Day weekend was a little cold, we spent so much time on that wonderful screened porch. Outstanding!

This property was a bit more north than we usually stay in Door County, so it took a bit longer to get to, but it was worth it. So much natural beauty and just a short drive into Sister Bay, Ellison Bay, and Rowleys Bay.
The street has several other houses on it but the home itself is further back on the property so we never heard any noise from the neighbors and felt very secluded and private the whole time. Although the house is not on the water, you could hear Lake Michigan in the distance, which was lovely. The rental also includes beach/waterfront access just a short walk away. Our young kids loved exploring the backyard and the path to the lake!
Despite not having any snow during our trip, the cabin itself had plenty of warm, cozy, winter vibes. We loved playing all of our favorite childhood games and checking out the collection of books in the main living space. Plenty of options for sleeping, good kitchen space, simple decor, excellent puzzle table. Everything we needed! We would definitely stay again.

The house was lovely; super clean and comfortable - a room for each of 5 guests. The woods and private beach were a wonderful bonus. It would also be a great house if you had young kids - bunk beds and games and books.

Living in the city, it takes a little time to get used to the quiet. It is so good to be able to unwind and relax. The location is perfect to access Door County venues and activities. The cabin amenities make it easy to enjoy your stay and not have to worry about supples. Very enjoyable stay!

This is a lovely home/cabin in the woods with a water front property just a short walk down the road. The kitchen was amazingly appointed with everything you need. We enjoyed a morning stroll on the paths around the property, an afternoon nap in the Adirondack chairs by the water and a fire in the pit by the cabin in the evening. It’s quiet, relaxing and very peaceful. We loved our stay.

This lovely home fit our family perfectly. We loved the layout, the land and the private beach access. We were in town for a wedding, so didn't get to spend as much time in the space we wanted to for bonfires, grilling, and game nights. We hope to be back soon to do so!! Overall the building was beautiful and clean, small dip in rating as it wasn't when we landed, but Gary took care of it instantaneously. Highly recommend!!!

Beautiful location and home. Spacious, well stocked kitchen, library. Lake area provided wonderful views of lake. Nice fire pit. Close to Sister Bay and great shopping and restaurants.

We had a great stay. Our first time to Door County. It is beautiful this time of the year. The property is in a great location to use as home base for the sights and scenes of Door County.

The house was great for our family of five. Lots of space to gather together or spread apart.
The wooded lot is super private which we loved. Very close to Sister Bay downtown.
The mattress downstairs was great. So nice to sleep well on vacation. 😊 Might be a strange thing to comment on but we’re rented other VRBO cabins where the mattresses are terrible.
I also appreciated the ability to access the garage for dry fire wood and replenish supplies such as paper towels as needed. It’s the little things. ❤️

We were very happy with the cabin - clean and lots of room to gather. The only thing we were a little disappointed with was the access to the lake - we thought when we booked it was right on the water with views from the cabin. Lovely woodsy cabin with trails - enjoyed our stay!😊

Spacious house, the kitchen and adjacent living areas very comfortable. Only disappointment was the beach, we never found it, we turned left out of the driveway and apparently it was to the right. Get specific info from homeowner for the location and access to enjoy this feature.

We loved our stay at this peaceful wooded retreat. The walk to Lake Michigan was very close. The home was clean and nicely furnished. I would definitely recommend this place!

We thoroughly enjoyed our Girls Weekend at The Refuge in Sister Bay. The house in the woods and across the road from Lake Michigan was exactly what we were hoping for! The accommodations were perfect for sleeping, relaxing, cooking and exploring! We have been to Door County numerous times over the years and this year was one of our favorites!

The cabin was cozy and exaclty what you imagine a Northwoods cabin to be like! Plenty of relaxing days of hiking in the woods and exploring the neighboring towns. The owners are there definately to make sure you are able to have a great trip in all ways!

We had a wonderful time staying at this cabin. We’ve stayed many times and enjoy the solitude and fireplace. Really appreciated the firewood in the garage (pay per bundle) since Gary took over!

Great cabin set on a beautiful location! Very much enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and how cozy the living area was. The in-floor heating was a bonus. We will be back for another visit!

Our family traveled to Door Co. for a memorial for my late husband. This was a hard time, but our stay at this wonderful home, made our life so much better. I wish we would have had more time, the book collection was so inviting. Games and tv helped keep the young ones entertained. But the highlight was the woods, trails and Lake Michigan waiting to be explored. There was plenty of room for all of us and very convenient to everything we wanted to do while we were there. I would recommend this place again and again, and I hope that we can once again visit this beautiful place in the future.

Our family totally enjoyed our stay, taking walks through the woods surrounding the cabin, watching the sunrise over the lake, and visiting local towns and attractions. The cabin is very roomy and well equipped for cooking, relaxing, and building a campfire outside. It felt very homey and inviting to all of us.

The “Refuge” is appropriately named, this is a cabin that you feel good about returning to at the end of day. Very comfortable, cozy, and located in one of the most private and peaceful locations on Door County.

Perfect place for our family visiting Sister Bay for a wedding and Labor Day weekend. The great room and adjoining screened-in porch were perfect for a family gathering as was the fire ring in the clearing. Also nice was the bunk bed room for our 3 grandsons and the lakefront access for a beautiful view. 10 minutes from downtown Sister Bay! Thanks for a memorable stay!

The Refuge provides that rustic feel, but with all the modern amenities that made our stay truly comfortable and enjoyable!
It's a large, spacious home with cozy nooks and corners that entice you to spread throughout the house, perhaps to curl up and read a book from the impressive library, or choose from the offering of puzzles and games! But we also relished our time together as a multigenerational family of 8 adults -- cooking and eating around the large kitchen table, as well as gathering around the stone fireplace in the living room. Additionally, we thoroughly enjoyed the grounds around the house--beautifully and naturally landscaped with small evergreens and wildflowers, and laced with paths that meandered throughout the property. We had a gorgeous night of stargazing through our telescope set up on the shorefront of the property.

Loved the location on a dead end yet 10ish minutes from Sister Bay. Had a great lake front area just a short walk away. Very spacious cabin for the 7 of us. Only recommendation is to have a key coded door.

This cabin is an absolute joy to stay at. This is our second summer using it for a weeklong family vacation and it is the perfect place for cousins to play, siblings to catch up and everyone to enjoy all that Door County has to offer. We love the short walk to the rocky waterfront to throw stones in the water (fun for ages 2-72!) and the kids love the "secret" paths through the woods and to the stick teepee. The house is comfortable and great for large families. The new owners are super friendly and communicative and have made some small, nice changes - there is now a crib and a pack n play and the dishwasher is a newer Bosch model. We love the location and the comfort of this cabin!

This was our second stay at this cabin under new management. It was just as wonderful as our first stay! The woods surrounding the cabin is peaceful, the trails were great for our children to trek through, and the fire pit was the perfect end to a busy (or not so busy) Door County day.
The kitchen had everything we need. You will be amazed at how much the owners have thought of when stocking the place. The beds were comfortable. Some of us spent entire days relaxing and reading in the beautiful screen porch.
The only sweet part to leaving was knowing we'll be back next year. Thank you for such a perfect place to spend a week in the woods. There is no place we've stayed that is quite like this one. A gem.

The Refuge was our multi-generation family home for a week of vacation in Door County. We enjoyed the space and the way it was laid out, the comfortable furniture and the lovely location of the cabin. The cabin, itself, was set up with everything we needed. It was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The mattresses were very comfortable. The screened porch was perfect. And, if that weren't enough, the log cabin was beautiful. We loved our week there.
When we weren't at the cabin, we were taking advantage of being at the lake frontage our hosts own, within walking distance of the house. It turned out to be a real plus with this rental property.

This house had the best location ever. Within 4 miles of Sister Bay but next to Lake Michigan. Very comfortable, quiet and large enough for 6 adults. We will rent again.

Door County Retirement Vacation
My in-laws and I stayed at the Refuge as a vacation in honor of her retirement. The location was great to explore everything door county has to offer! My kids (3 mo. And 2) had a wonderful time in the cabin that was stocked with kids toys and games.
