The check in was probably the most efficient and easiest check in I have ever experienced. The staff was nice and helpful. The room I stayed in was a little dated but extremely clean. There is no A/C but there is a ceiling fan and that combined with the weather and ocean breeze kept it cool enough. I can’t say enough good about the location and how close to the ocean it was. My family and I will definitely be staying again when we come back to California.

Great location and customer service but the place hasn’t been updated in a while. Very dated decor with old wallpaper, rusty bathroom fixtures, etc. but the place is clean and has beachfront access, which is fantastic.

We specifically asked for a room away from trash and stairways on the top floor. Ended up in a second floor flounder another room right next to the dumpsters for the restaurants and at the top of the staircase. The body wash was empty in the shower and drain stopped did not work. There were ketchup stains on the outside of the refrigerator. We spoke to the front desk on the second day and they admitted that they accidentally knew us from the designated room to this room, but it was too late for us to move Housekeeping, came in and fix the shower gel and wipe down the refrigerator. However, we were told that the brain had been fixed. It was not. It never actually worked when there was any kind of water in the tub. Kelly as our visit went on the maintenance room got closer closer to our room and Saturday morning we had all the nose from the maintenance trash and food delivery trucks. It was almost unbearable. I just feel like that was a huge mess on there part flexing us as far north and away from the main building as possible, and exactly where we asked not to be, which is by the staircases and trash. We do appreciate the fact that our room was air-conditioning, which is a very specific question of ours, however, not fixing the drain stop was frustrating

Starting with the positives. Great location right beside the beach. We had a view of the ocean so it was great to watch the pelicans and sunset. Hotel had great communication. Unfortunately the room and hotel as a whole is very rundown. It’s probably clean but it’s hard to tell. It desperately needs new paint and definitely furniture. It just had an ick feeling that was hard to get past. But it sure has potential. Loved going for morning and night walks along the boardwalk.

I love staying at the Beach Cottages! It's got an awesome location (right on the beach), the rooms are a good size (and have frig and microwave), near restaurants, and you can walk everywhere! I would caution you on staying there on the weekend, though. There is an outdoor restaurant/bar right next to the hotel and it can get loud.

very old hotel, not keep well, corridors smell horrible, hotel closed to 3 majors bar, could not sleep, until 3 am, could not open the window because of the noise and no Air conditioning, need to have at least soundproof window.
only good thing was the bed, it was comfortable.

This is a solid stay for the cost, maybe the best at this cost. Walk 19 feet, and you are on the walking path with 5 thousand beautiful people enjoying the sun in the coolest part of the path.
Communication was great. Parking great. Coffee great.
1. If you stay here, you might be in a room with an old shower—pull the handle out hard WHILE twisting clockwise. There is another fan in the closet—we didn't see it until we checked out. The room never got unbearable. It stays cool.
2. If you are in the building above the bar, the open patio door will include the noise of the party until about 2AM. It's not terrible, but if you are sensitive to sound at night, request a room away from the bar.
3. If you come in with sandy feet, there are several places to water off, but the main outside shower was broken. The other spots are there, but they are hidden. Keep looking.
4. I sensed that there were some long-term renters at the hotel. It's got that vibe, but it's not bad; just prepare your expectations.
If you are a 4 or 5-star guy, your demands will not be met. For the rest of us, once you acclimate the older charm it's great.
Life Pro Tip - walk to Handles Ice Cream. It's unreal.

It’s clean, but dated. It is conveniently located near the beach, dining, and shops. Parking is convenient as well. The staff was real friendly and responsive to any problems.

Everything about this place and its reviews are great. We stayed in the north building which has different amenities and vibes. The parking is better there but no elevator to get to second or third floor. It also faces an alleyway which can be very busy even through the night. Overall it was a great stay and the pros outweighed the cons that I will be coming back again.

Glad the property had locked gates. Very noisy bars that party all night. Homeless living on the beach a doorways. Rooms were clean with new flooring. Loved having a little kitchenette. The property itself looks run down but it is right on the beach boardwalk. Great breakfast spots close by.

Great location! We walked to several coffee shops, restaurants, bars, the beach and Belmont Park. It was a 10 minute drive from Sea World. Staff was nice and accommodating. The room was spacious and clean with daily house keeping. I took 1 star off for some minor suggestions. It would be nice to have a soap dish for bar soap so it doesn’t stick to the counter. Other suggestion would be to have a security guard patrol the rooms that are in the ally away from the main building for safety. (At least on weekends)

Possibly the best deal to be right on the beach in this area. I stayed in the part that is more like a hotel. Not as cute as cottages, BUT, you get a fantastic view from 2nd and 3rd levels. Some of the rooms are a bit small, and not in the best condition, but again, you can't beat the location and the views. Bed was comfortable. Not sure if the rooms have AC or not, which could be a problem in summertime. Room was clean and all linens etc were clean and fresh. Staff are very friendly, and parking is ample and free in a gated lot, so that is nice for this area as well. Again, you just can't beat the location/views for the price. I would stay here again to save a lot of money, for only a slight downgrade in room quality. You can not beat the location.

Great location, staff were awesome, security on site, and the rooms were clean and roomy. No air conditioning , but they provide plenty of fans and the ocean breeze to assist with cooling things down. Love being at the beach! Cleaning staff did a great job and were very friendly. Highly recommend!

Well, we thought we were booking in the little village area near the office across the walkway from the beach BUT upon check in we were the north building in the DIRTY alley way right next to bars and DUMPSTERS!
The trash companies started picking up the dumpsters at 630am every day and were very loud.
The room was ok(mid for the price) as to be expected.
When booking it only told me non ocean view which I was fine with. What they need to tell you is you’re in the dirty alley

Was an easy process at check in, quick walks to food & drinks, clean and well-maintained room.
Was wishing to get in one of those bungalow-style cottages in the front (what got me to choose it) but I guess it will be for another time.
Other than that, it was a wonderful experience.
