The island of Texel is so green and pleasant that many birds make a stop-off there during their autumn migration. De Slufter nature reserve is only ten minutes' drive away and full of excellent hiking routes across the mudflats. Similarly, the beach at the northern-most tip of the island can be reached in forty-five minutes on foot. The main town of Den Burg is only twenty minutes away in the car, too.
