The premises are large, clean, comfortable and very well laid out. Everything you would need is provided. The location is very convenient for walking around the old city, located within the pedestrian area. Géraldine, who managed our check-in, was very helpful and accommodating and easy to reach. Thank you!

If you a want modern but very old apartment with original stone work and spiral stairs to your door you love this. Leave the spoiled princess in chains and escape to huge stone work with rustic iron bars on the windows. The street is so narrow that a single cat will nearly scape the buildings. Adventure??? It starts here!

This property was perfectly suited for our 3 night stay! The location is centralized yet also secluded and quiet. The amenities and decor exceeded our expectations. It is very spacious and fully stocked, plus the ambience of the historical space made us smile every time we came back to it. Geraldine’s check-in support was also excellent. This location helped us create many wonderful memories of Bordeaux and St. Emilion. Thank you Lionel for offering this incredible space!

This unique stay is great for those looking for something different. Spacious, modern and well furnished. Close to many attractions and public transit. The underground environment has a few quirks. It is slighty humid, but not enough to keep things from drying. The block walls shed small amounts of mortar if brushed against. The host is terrific.

The property manager, Geraldine, was great at
communicating ahead of our arrival. Once there, she was waiting to let us in & gave us a quick synopsis of all the wonderful tourist activities in Bordeaux.
The location was ideal, the place was tidy and although people were partying in the streets after a rugby match we could barely hear them through the VERY thick walls.
Overall wonderful stay!
One thing to note is it’s in a basement so the winding stairs can be difficult for some (especially with their luggage), but overall we found it fine to do the steps on a day to day basis.

Communication with the property manager was great, she met us at the building and walked us through how everything worked. This place was a great location for us, a five minute walk to both the airport tram and river. Wifi was good, the washing machine was great and we liked that a drying rack was available. Make sure you bring your own detergent though as there was none provided. Blackout inserts for the windows made the rooms nice and dark for sleeping. Overall, a great stay.

Overall, the property was lovely. Beautiful 13th century cave well updated for 21C tourists. Location was great - close to transport food and dining. It was also cool in the very hot heat of late August. Not well appointed, however. Yes a washing machine but no soap. The stove wouldn’t work and there were no directions. Humid too so it took a full day for clothes to air-dry. It’s actually 2 stories below street level so there are stairs and we were unpleasantly scolded for being late to arrive even though I had kept the host notified of train delays. But it is truly an unmatched destination and still worth the hassles.
2.0 / 5.0
The place when we got in is pleasant enough in terms of furnishings (although why is the cooker at chest height?) but corridor is horrible and we didn’t like being underground.
Internal stonework is disintergrating and creates lots of dust.
We paid the host €20 for parking but when we went to leave the machine was saying we owed €34 for our stay. By a stroke of luck the girl in the car behind was English, spoke fluent French and was able to sort it out. We left with the key card (which, as mentioned, didn’t work) so we could exit the car park and then got hassled as to where it was. We couldn’t put it by in the apartment as by that point we’d left and it was locked up.
The final straw was being asked “if our dog had pooed or been sick in the shower”. This we find to be deeply offensive - our dog is a beautiful well trained spaniel and would do no such thing.
My husband is a retired Senior Hospital Consultant and I am a retired teacher so I think we have some idea on societies rules and niceties!
We were also being hassled before even left England as to what time we would arrive - this was meant to be a holiday!!!

We loved our stay! The apartment was exactly as shown on the website, clean, well located and super unique. We could walk anywhere in the city from our apartment and felt safe at any hour of the day. Highly recommend and would stay there again in a heart beat.
We were delayed with our flight and Geraldine (host) was wonderful and met us at midnight to greet us and was very helpful with suggestions.

Absolutely loved the location, the classic french interior and amenities. The only drawbacks are the inability to unload your luggage on the street in front of the building, and the steep spiral staircase leading to the door. We are 71 years "young" and quite agile, but negotiating the stairs with our luggage was a bit intimidating. Please make your guests aware of this prior to renting...if either one of us were not "capable" we would not have been able to stay there. Lastly, we loved the stonework, but the ceiling flakes off and particles fall everywhere in the apartment. Maybe a sealant would solve the issue. Otherwise, it was great. Thank you!

Provided a very interesting experience. Great location in old Bordeaux. Within 50 meters of municipal tram line which traverses the city. Near river, restaurants, shopping and attractions. Apartment is accessed via stone spiral staircase. Unit is spacious and has contemporary appliances and fixtures. This is a very old stone structure. Appreciating that fact, we emptied the water from the two dehumidifiers when necessary and kept luggage closed to avoid sand and flaking from the stone getting into clothing. A new mattress would improve guests’ sleeping comfort. Enjoyed our stay.

Heart of Bordeaux
The property was very cool and in a great location. We loved the vibe! Géraldine was also extremely welcoming and gave us lots of excellent recommendations for the area. So appreciated! The only negative for us was that the pull out bed felt a bit unsteady for two adults- I think it would be a great place for 2-3 adults or two adults and younger kids, rather than four adults. Otherwise it was great!!

Cozy apartment
The bed was extremely comfortable and the whole place had a beautiful vibe and decoration. You need to park your car 2 blocks away, nevertheless the location was in an easy area to get around!

Great little place for exploring historic Bordeaux
We stayed 5 nights in this apartment. It had everything we needed for our comfort.
I am claustrophobic so I was worried about being downstairs.
It was not a problem. Window is large and opened up. I would have liked a small fan for circulation and a flat sheet for the bed as the comforter could be a bit warm.
We cooked some meals in and washed clothes. A drying rack is supplied.
The manager, Geraldine, met us at the property. She was friendly and helpful. We had Netflix in English. First TV in 12 days.
The stairs are narrow and steep but once the luggage was in, not a problem.
I didn't like the dog poop all over the alleyway. Why don't people clean up after their dogs?
Thank you for a nice place to Stay in this fabulous city.
I recommend Viator tour to St. Emilion. Very good. Oh and if you like wine, the bar Vin across from the tour center.

Life in the moat.
This is a great property. We got lost and were quite delayed and still they had someone there to meet us! We would recommend this apartment to others.

Loved staying in a cave by ancient Roman moat.
We very much enjoyed our spacious stone cave. It is just as pictured on the website. The kitchen was well-furnished and the entire apartment was well—lit. The only negatives are slow internet, probably due to all the stone, the dingy narrow hallway crowded with bicycles and two flights of narrow, spiral stone stairs necessary to enter. Both Lionel and his concierge, Virginie, were very responsive although Virginie seemed very hurried when she checked us in. The neighborhood seems to be in transition. We arrived on a Saturday and were greeted by a nearly-passed
-out drunk opposite our door and another fully passed-out drunk at the end of the street which was full of litter. However during the remainder of our stay, we did not encounter these problems. The street is very well lit at night and the cave is very quiet.

Wonderful place to stay!
The apartment is as beautiful as shown on VRBO. The soft lighting and glow of the stone walls and ceilings give everything a warmth and coziness.
One room comprises the comfortable living room and kitchen. The kitchen has excellent appliances- an induction range, no less, and a full refrigerator! We cooked a number of meals to take advantage of the fantastic fresh food we could buy!
The bedroom and bathroom are in the second room. It has an extra large queen bed with a moderately firm mattress - we slept well! The location of the windows away from the street made everything very quiet. There is a large closet with lots of hangers and drawers.
The bath has a great shower with lots of hot water! The small washing machine was quite efficient.
We stayed there three weeks during late September and early October 2019. At times it was unseasonably warm outside. But the apartment, with all the stone walls and indirect lighting, stayed comfortable and cool.
Lionel was an excellent host. He was very responsive to our needs. His recommendations for restaurants were perfect! He could not have made the stay more enjoyable!
One word of caution: since the apartment is a former armory built in the 1700’s, and located below the ground level at the front of the building, access is by two flights of narrow circular stairs of the type we saw in castles! We loved the quaintness and exercise. But it is not for a person that needs easier entry!
We highly recommend this rental, particularly for longer stays. It is within a 10 minute walk to hundreds of fabulous restaurants and 15 minutes to Marche du Cuperins - a fantastic and very large French market with every possible fresh food imaginable!

Bordeau
Exactly as posted. Very complicated to find with construction in the narrow cobblestone alleys. Parking is a 15 min walk and with luggage on the cobblestone can be difficult. The stairs to the unit are narrow and steep so be aware. Otherwise a very pleasant place- well equipped and clean.Owners very helpful and accommodating.

Almost perfect
The property is great, excellent location, good comms with the owner. Everything you could want for an enjoyable stay in Bordeaux. Except - We were given a very short window of time to check-in, about 20 minutes which is difficult to achieve when travelling by various means of transport from the UK. The owner had arranged for an agent to let us in. When we sent a text from the station saying we would miss the given time by about five minutes we received a not very polite reply. We were left waiting outside the property for 20 minutes. Not a good start. However, it did get better.

Great Location
We enjoyed our stay in this historic apartment. It was very convenient to all the sights of Bordeaux. The apartment is clean and well equipped and very quiet even though it’s in a very lively neighborhood. If you plan on cooking make sure you visit the farmers market, it’s the best. Lots of good restaurants and cafes and the tram stop is very close by.

Quirky Apartment
Loved being in number 18. Never slept in a cave before!
It was extremely well appointed and equipped.
It was in a very central spot with lots of eating places and sites to see. Bordeaux is beautiful.
L’Etoile was a newly opened restaurant selling French food just five minutes from the apartment. The staff were extremely welcoming.
Many sites to see in Bordeaux.

Charming historic building apartment
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique castle-like apartment in a hundreds of years old building in the historic St. Michel area of Bordeaux. Everything was walkable or easy to get to by tram of the sights in the city. We did a day trip to the St. Emilion wine district that was also terrific. That and other trips are easy to arrange at the tourist office which is a walk or quick tram ride from the apartment. I had a foot injury and also appreciated the sort of tuk tuk tourist ride around the sights, also easy to get at the tourist office. Corinne and Lionel gave helpful guidance, maps and suggestions for sights, restaurants, daytrip possibilities. Be aware that if you have large luggage or wheelchair or the like, that the apartment is located down two levels of spiral rock steps. There are windows opening onto an interior little courtyard between buildings, the apartment is nicely appointed. With solid rock walls, you really feel tucked away though that, for us, was part of the historic, authentic charm. It was a great experience, a unique place to stay, in fact we recommended it to other travelers we met in Provence as they were headed there.

Charming and enchanting stay!
We were welcomed at the apartment by our host. He was warm and welcoming. He kindly showed us around the apartment and gave us great suggestions on what to do and where to visit. Wonderful location in Bordeaux, very close to restaurants, shops, and near the tram. The master bedroom was cozy yet very spacious with lots of charm. The bathroom was up to date with a modern shower with great water pressure. We used the sofa bed which was comfortable and easy to setup.
It was a wonderful experience to stay in a 13th century apartment! Would highly recommend to stay here on a visit to Bordeaux!

An idyllic retreat in the heart of Bordeaux
We had a great time the appartment is hidden away downstairs in the historic heart of Bordeaux, Lionel was a great host even meeting us from the tram which we took from the station as our TGV was late and the wifi on the train wasn't working.
The appartment is superbly appointed, good king sized bed and a lovely shower.
The property has steep stairs to it and the doorway to the bedroom is low but if your mobility is not challenged then I would highly recommend the apartment and the city.
lots of great restaurants and bars in easy strolling distance.
