A warm welcome on arrival. Very fruendly landlord. Excellent food in the restaurant and a good breakfast cooked to order. Our room was spacious and clean. The only negative from me was that the mattress in the Bovey room was thin and I could feel the springs, so not the best nights sleep.

The Oxenham Arms was a pleasure to stay at. So much history well told plus good service and hospitality.

This lovely Hotel is steeped in history. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the food is very good indeed. Simon, Lyn and John are excellent hosts. We hope to return again soon.

Last minute stay. Good room, good dinner and breakfast, helpful and friendly host and such an interesting place with its history.

Lovely old historic property which has been decorated and furnished in an atmospheric style. Very comfortable 4-poster bed in our room. Walking guide (one of 5) was very well written and useful, got some amazing views from atop the nearby peak. The dinners were excellent and the wine choice extensive. Staff are very friendly and made us feel welcome. Very few negatives and only small improvements needed. Some staff training issues around restaurant service and housekeeping which were apologised for and didn't spoil our stay but for the price being charged we wouldn't have expected these little lapses to occur.

Fantastic experience. John and the landlady Lyn we’re particularly welcoming. We had a beautiful room and the food was delicious. We will defiantly be back.

Quality food well cooked and presented, good menu choice at dinner and good fruit cereal along with traditional english breakfast for the mornings. Historic building providing interest and ambience warm with central heating and open fires. Rooms ensuite with four poster beds,spotlessly clean and comfortable. We shall retutn.

Old (very old) inn which has been modernised in traditional style. Where else can you sleep in the bed Dickens slept in or dine beside an ancient standing stone? Add to that good food well presented and an excellent wine list and it adds up a very satisfying stay. But don’t expect the floors to be even...

Located in unspoilt moorland village of South Zeal, this hotel, which is an 800 yr old former monastery, is a lovely place to stay and escape to and use as base for exploring the moors.
